I remember reading a treatise some time ago maintaining that a principle mark of a mature, successful democratic republic was the peaceful transition of power. Probably so but that aspect of our society has taken and is still taking a large hit in that respect. Reality is that the party in power energized the surveillance power of the state to sabotage the election of the presidential candidate from the opposing party and, when that failed, attempted a soft coup.
