16JUN2019 – Happy Father’s Day to All the Readers Out There

If you are a father, then force your family to give you just a few hours off today to do something fun, even that’s just catching up on sleep.  If you have a father that did his job and he’s still around call him up and wish him a nice day and if he’s gone take a minute to think of the best memories you have of him and the things he did for you.

Every man who had a father who sacrificed for him and tried to raise him right owes it to any children he has to pay forward what he received before.

At least, that’s how it seems to me now.

Here’s a bonus quote for the day.

When I was a boy of 14, my father was so ignorant I could hardly stand to have the old man around. But when I got to be 21, I was astonished at how much the old man had learned in seven years.

Mark Twain

Unfortunately we had one after another severe t-storms with very heavy rains move through last night (looks like it will tonight as well). With severe t-storms come flooding and threat of tornadoes, so I could not shut off the weather alert radio. Ergo, I was wakened from a sound sleep 5 times last night. The thunderstorms didn’t bother me (I can sleep though all but the very loudest of them), but that darned weather alert radio had me sit bolt upright in my bed every time. That and every time the power would go off for a few seconds, that woke me up, too. That happened twice. The second time long enough for the backup generator to kick in.

So I napped today off and on, and made myself a very nice grilled NY strip steak (medium) with grilled ear corn and baked potato for lunch. My grill is under cover on the back porch and thankfully the storms held off while I was grilling.

And after my steak the kids and grandson came down and the other kid called from Texas. I got a new set of grill tools by Cuisinart. Really good ones, too. Mine had seen better days. And a new bottle of my high-end cologne, Ultimo. We ordered Stromboli from a local place for supper, my daughters had brought salad and we ate and had a good time. The kids and grandson took turns telling dad/grandpa stories. Even with the sleep interruption, it was a pretty good day.

Hope you and every other dad who reads this page had a good Father’s Day.

Other than the threat of tornadoes, that sounds like a pretty darn good Father’s Day. I had to do a lot of driving on Saturday but on Sunday I was treated like a prince with a steak dinner and time to be as lazy as I pleased. Tomorrow back to the salt mines.
