This town isn’t quite that old but these stone walls are the first things that go up on a farm after the house. Basically, they accumulate as you clear and plough. I’ll bet the stones that make up that wall have been in that spot since the area was settled in the late 1600’s.

When I had a house in Harvard Ma, a stone wall cut across the property that was built in the 1620s.
