04NOV2020 – Post-Election Day Thoughts

Groggily crawling into the light this morning required that I re-orient myself in the aftermath of the surreal experience that was Election Night 2020.  I spent from 9pm to 1am on a zoom with a great bunch of people on our side of the political divide.  I’ll gladly admit that was a whole lot of fun.  I much preferred discussing the incoming results with them than listening to the talking heads on the networks blather on about their demented opinions.

I’m very disappointed that we didn’t have a definitive result last night.  Taking that out of the equation makes election night kind of a phony description.  It would be more accurate to call it the beginning of the ballot counting.  Well, what can you do?  Progressives can’t help but ruin anything they touch.  But what was very clear last night was that any state that is controlled by the Democrats like Virginia and Pennsylvania made sure to stop the vote counting if it looked like President Trump was about to win the state.  The obvious conclusion is that they are using the delay to rig the results.  So that means four very key states, PA, VA, MI and WI will attempt to use manufactured Democrat voting ballots to fraudulently win those states for Biden.

It will be very interesting for me to see if President Trump has the wherewithal to block this fraud.  I have no idea if he can.  I sincerely hope he is successful.  That would be the best outcome for the current situation.  If he fails Joe Biden and ultimately, Kamala Harris will end up as President.

And so, let me get to the crux of this essay.  If President Trump prevails then we know what he has to do to begin repairing the damage already done to our country.  I and every other writer on the Right has been expounding on that for the last four years.  What needs to be determined is what are we going to do if he is unsuccessful?

And the answer is to cultivate our own gardens.  We are going to have to woke-proof our lives.  We will be forced to come up with work arounds and local solutions to all the problems associated with living in the cultural Marxist state that a Biden administration will entail.  And don’t think it won’t be extreme.  Look how repressive the social media and other Silicon Valley companies have been under the Trump administration.  I can only imagine that the deplatforming will become even more pervasive.  And the laws that the Left will try to get through Congress and the courts will be pretty bad.  First and Second amendment attacks are going to be horrendous.  Theoretically the Supreme Court should be there to prevent that from taking place but John Roberts is an awful man and a real enemy to the conservative side.  We are going to see some gut-wrenching defeats under his tenure on the Supreme Court.

And for all those reasons I think it’s more important than ever to have places we can go to talk and trade notes on what helps and what doesn’t.  Our voices will disappear on Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and all the other hostile platforms.  We’ll need our own spaces to get any news out and lend moral and other support to our side.  I’ve painted a pretty bleak picture of what will happen if Biden wins.  But really you should remember that this isn’t something that should make brave people quail.  Think of what the Poles endured under the Soviets.  Freedom is a quality of the mind not the local laws.  If we have to go underground then that’s what we do.  And then we find out who the free and the brave really are.

“We few, we happy few, we band of brothers;”

I say it’s us.  What do you think?

Two Nations Under One Flag

Yesterday I said that my co-worker hated President Trump so much that he was ecstatic at the idea that the economy would be tanked by the COVID-19 outbreak because it would throw the election to Biden.  Think about that.  He would rather see his beloved 401K devalued than let a conservative run the country.  That seems to me to be a marker.

We’re not just philosophically different.  We are two enemies trapped in the same cell.  We don’t just dislike each other we can’t tolerate each other’s presence.  And yet we have to interact with them every day and everywhere.  But it’s a very lop-sided arrangement.  They know we exist by virtue of the resistance we give to laws they make to afflict us.  But we are surrounded by their institutions.  We are submerged in their culture.  We are drowning in it.  We have to hear their propaganda 24/7 on every television channel, every social media site, every newspaper, every pop song, every movie screen.  They propagandize our children and run the human resources department of every company in the country.  They’ve even taken over almost every pulpit in every church.  We need our own space.  But how do we keep it when any attempt to go our own way is protested, harassed and criminalized?

What will need to be done is form an underground.  And the best way to do that is in plain sight.  My personal favorite idea is to form our own church.  How exactly that is done is the detail that needs to be worked out.  Should it be an existing denomination that has a very hands-off attitude toward parishes or should it be a new sect?  I tend to think a new sect is the better way.  That way no one enters it thinking it is something than what it turns out to be.

Theologically, it would be traditionalist.  It would stress scripture.  It would adhere to the traditional church teachings on marriage, family and personal behavior.  It would reinforce the traditional roles for men and women in the family and the community.  And church business would be governed by a group of elders which consisted exclusively of married men who have children.

Once a church was up and running all the other programs that a church sponsors could reflect the community this church represents.  Youth sports programs, community charitable programs, outreach to the poor and elderly, community entertainment like theater and music programs.  We’ll have to replace the scouts with our own version of that once useful organization.  And, most difficult, but a truly worthy goal would be a school.  But a school would be very difficult because keeping the progressives out would be a constant war.  And the government would make it its highest priority to force it into compliance with the progressive norms they so dearly love.

So, to start with, religious instruction would be an important program.  It would be something that prepared children to recognize the errors in the surrounding culture and provide them with coping mechanisms to allow them to exist in that outer world without letting it poison their minds.

Another aspect of the church would be community networking.  It would encourage members of the church to practice solidarity and support each other in business relationships and social groups.  It could produce a list of preferred service providers and craftsmen for the various trades that a community needs and, in that way, help make the community more self-supporting.

And finally, church social functions like dances and clubs could be an opportunity for young people to look for love.  What better place to find a mate than among families that already see eye to eye on values?

I am very interested in getting all kinds of feedback on the practical problems in starting such a community.  If anyone has information or links to similar endeavors I’d be obliged.  And if you have any different but equally useful ideas on building something for our side feel free to comment or send me an e-mail.

Building the Underground

Last week I read Angelo Codevilla’s essay “Conservative Resistance” in American Greatness.  His thesis was that since the Leftists have begun selectively to ignore federal law (e.g., marijuana illegality) that it has come to the point where Red States will start ignoring social policy laws that they disagree with (e.g., abortion, homosexuality).

Whether things will actually progress very far this way anytime soon remains to be seen but I realized that we already live essentially in two different worlds.  The conflict over the last sixty years has been over which world will rule the other.  And essentially it is not a matter of agreeing on a common set of rules that we can reach a compromise on.  We are being systematically undermined in all areas of the most important aspects of life.  The Left’s social projects have absolutely nothing to do with freedom.  They are efforts to destroy the traditional family as the means to eradicate the people they cannot control.

Looking at things from that point of view it seems plain to me that until we can reassert control over the agencies of the government that are infringing on our freedoms of speech and religion, we must in some ways look upon ourselves as people living under a foreign power.  We live in occupied territory.  This is similar to how the people in Eastern Europe endured the Soviet occupation.

The Soviet occupation controlled every facet of civic life with an unbreakable grip based on the military strength of the Russian army.  But the people lived a dual life and their inner life expressed the truth of what they actually believed as opposed to the outer rituals that the state forced them to observe.  So, whereas Poland was officially a communist state with atheism as the official position, the Poles clung desperately to their Catholic faith.

Not to be dramatic about this but there is a way for us to live a similar inner life.  We will have to foster a separate culture and society from the one we live in.  We will need to have our own fiction and philosophy, our own music and movies.  We will need to communicate together over our own channels, websites and networks.  And someday we may need to invest our money in our own banks and businesses.  We’re actually luckier than the Poles and the Czechs.  Theoretically we still live in a free country.  If we are careful and patient, we can make a lot of progress without depending on some kind of upheaval to get what we want.  But it will require slow methodical effort by large numbers of like-minded people to lay the kind of foundation needed to bypass the converged infrastructure currently surrounding every facet of our lives; schools, social networking sites, businesses, federal bureaucracies and even churches and non-profit organizations.

All these things are possible and relatively easy to understand.  The hard thing to do is how to pass along this information to the children today.  If you homeschool your children then this simplifies matters enormously.  But if your kids are in the public (or private) schools then it will be a struggle.  They are saturated by the propaganda that the culture and its representatives broadcast at them continuously.  It’s like a fish in poisoned water it can’t escape the effect.  To tell them the truth will seem to them like madness.  It will fly in the face of everything that is drummed into their heads twenty-four/seven.  But even here there are ways to use the natural advantage of the truth to simplify the effort.  When a child tells you about global warming have facts on your side.  Point to statements by alarmists like Al Gore about how the polar ice caps would be completely melted by 2017 and then show a photo of the Arctic today.  This will be understandable to the child.  Then it would be useful to explain that not everything that is taught in school or on television is true.  You can then introduce the concept of political bias and how this can cause people to lie about objectively true things for the sake of gaining political power.  It will also be necessary to explain how arguing to the authorities about their lies will only get the child punished.  It will have to be explained that for the sake of keeping appearances the truth won’t be mentioned.  But introduction into the inner world of those who know will be an interesting phenomenon for him and allow a space where you can talk to the young without confusing them.  Another good way to break them out of the propaganda mode is to give them books and movies from the earlier times before the worst of the madness evolved.  Books and movies that showcase the qualities and behaviors of Western civilization and the normal occupations of men and women before the present confusion was inflicted on society will be interesting and attractive to their minds.

For an American having to do this seems Kafkaesque.  And probably that is the apt word.  Modern American life with its continuously weirder new outrages and never-ending assaults on the wholesome and sane appears like some surreal nightmare from which we never awake.  But teach them we must.  The memes and other tactics that the dissident and alt-right employ are meant to show the normies out there, the absurdity and illogic of the Left’s signature positions.  This we have to incorporate into our dealings with our children and grandchildren.  It is hoped that we can one day recover control of the culture and return it to normal.  And with President Trump some of that is actually happening.  But I know it’s much too soon to even think we can go back to business as usual.  We are behind enemy lines and will be so for the foreseeable future.  We will therefore have to act accordingly.
