Roosevelt was pushing back against powerful business interests of the era who believed laws didn’t apply to them. His message was blunt:

  • The law binds everyone — rich, poor, powerful, or ordinary.
  • Obedience to the law is a right the public can demand, not a favor the powerful can choose to grant.
  • Government shouldn’t need permission from elites* to enforce the law.

*Or ANYONE else!
