I need something trivial and (I think) fun to distract me while the formerly great Renaissance Civilization slides back into the primordial slime. I think I’ll try to come up with stuff like this to keep me from thinking of all the horror that surrounds us. At least stop thinking about it from time to time and have some fun.

Much as I love the Beach Boys, I gottta give this one to the Trio!. Theirs was the first version I heard at a very tender age, and that’s the one that became the Gold Standard.
The Beach Boys’ version was the first one I remember. In fact it was in 1975 that the song caught my attention while it was playing on the radio. It exactly matched my sentiments. I was on an ill fated trip that was curtailed partly by that song.
I voted for Wayland Jennings but the Fendertones (whoever they are) were close.
Yeah, the two no-name versions at the end of the list were really very good.
