Good one. How far away were you?
Probably about fifty feet. That’s a 600mm lens so it has some reach.
We maintained a winter feeder station at our house back in the ’60s. One year we had more than 100 pairs of Mourning Doves.
Yes they are common. They also seem to be the most common target of the local hawks. Hiding in the cherry tree that day they made a pretty picture. Another day they’ll end up a pile of feathers on the grass. The circle of life.
