Loved finding them in the basement and watching them scuttle up the walls. They were certainly the model for Dr. Zin’s Robot Spy in Jonny Quest.

I was traumatized at a very early age when I was covered with them while exploring in my grandfathers tool shed. I know they are harmless but they still freak me out.
Maybe because of that, I’m a generalized arachnophobe. Many decades ago, I woke one morning at 0 dark thirty and stumbled 1/4 awake to the bathroom and, passing the sink mirror, noticed a huge wolf spider on my shoulder. Somehow, instantly, I found myself upside down in the bathtub and the entire house awake.
Most humans don’t like their personal space invaded by creepy crawlies. I think of that scene in the movie African Queen where bogey is covered in leeches.
