In a way it is. Some beetles have an iridescence that is produced by metal atoms in the surface of their wing covers. I know this because of a work story. I was working at the startup of a pilot plant for a company that sold chemicals used by chip manufacturers. And one of these chemicals had to be metal-free down to the nano-level. After a bunch of successful batches one batch came back with metal tests out of whack by a factor of a billion.
