What Retail Sales Looks Like in the Jungle

The quote is the beginning of the linked article.  It’s worth a read.

“Walgreens is shuttering a location in Chicago, upsetting residents, and stirring fury among exploitative and complicit politicians. The way some local “leaders” tell it, the drugstore chain is acting greedily, selfishly, or even criminally.

“Walgreens should be charged with first-degree corporate abandonment,” thundered a local alderman. “It should be a crime, the way they’re treating our elders. It should be a crime, the way they’re treating our families.”

This is complete nonsense, of course, but the asinine nature of his flailing is laid bare by Walgreens’ reasons for closing its store in the Windy City’s Chatham neighborhood. According to the local Fox affiliate, the corporation was losing more than $1 million annually at that location, driven by stunning levels of theft and exorbitant security costs.”

 

So, let’s sum it up:

  • 16% of their merchandise is stolen per year.
  • That equates to more than a million dollars in losses per year.
  • They spent $400,000 in security for this one store
  • Their employees were still subject to frequent physical attacks by the thieves.

And then Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson characterized Walgreen’s decision to shut the store as criminal abandonment.  Wow, that’s amazing.  If I were the mayor of the third largest city in the United States and I discovered that a vital retail provider of drugs for my citizens was pulling out because my police force had failed to keep thieves and thugs in check at this location, I would move heaven and earth to make an example of that store and surround it with cops 24/7 until the crooks gave up.  But Brandon Johnson blames the people being robbed and assaulted by the mob that represents his true constituency.

From one end of this country to the other all blue cities and states are devolving into something that more resembles third world, banana republic street chaos than the United States of America.  But I now doubt that the voters in these jurisdictions will ever kick the Democrats out.  Los Angeles is the current test case.  Spencer Pratt is lambasting Mayor Karen Bass on the abysmal record she has accumulated over her term.  Between the horror show that was the Palisades fires and the complete lack of assistance to the victims, to the enormous disgrace of the out-of-control homeless epidemic on the streets of Los Angeles, Pratt has been speaking out and posting advertisements mocking his opponent’s ineptitude.

But will it make any difference?  California is a one-party state.  It’s owned by the state-workers’ unions.  Their pensions are the only important policies they care about and the Democrats have bought their votes with these funds.  So, I expect nothing to change in California, New York and the rest of the blue states for as long as their states can fund those pensions.  When the day comes that they run out of other people’s money, there will be hell to pay.  But the devil works for them so I’m sure he’ll pony up.

Murdered NYPD Cop’s Family Refuses to Let Gov Hochul Intrude at the Funeral

This was the funeral that Trump attended.

This is the moment Democrat Kathy Hochul was turned away at the wake for slain NYPD officer Jonathan Diller.

Here’s where the real toll from the blue city madness impacts the innocents.  You can bet that the families of the police aren’t the ones voting Democrats into office.  But as long as the majority of NYC voters are Democrats that city will continue its descent into lawlessness and violence.

Yep, the Canukistani po-po have given up. They now tell residents to hang their automobile key fòbs outside to make it easier for the car thieves to steal your car in hopes they will not go ahead and break in, armed,  and decide to take anything else of value including the virtue of any women or girls in the house. Of course you are forbidden from protecting your home and family yourself. If you so much as shake a stick at an armed robber he will shoot you in self defense and you will be charged with assault with a deadly weapon. Of course the guns, knives, and bludgeons of the criminals are never mentioned, just that said criminals were victims of right-wing fascism and they should be awarded the homeowner’s property in compensation.

Oakland Achieves Retail Desert Status

I found this video on my X feed.  This woman is a resident of Oakland California; the minority majority city on the other side of the Bay Bridge from San Francisco.

Oakland was the crime capitol of the United States in the 1980s and after making some improvement in the 21st century it is now vying once again as a lawless hellhole.

After the George Floyd riots in 2020 the murder rate just about doubled and once the “defund the police” movement had a chance to completely dispirit the cops crime major and minor has made Oakland a place where no retail business would dream of remaining.

Of course you can feel bad for this woman. But as long as the people of this city keep voting in Democrats they will continue to suffer the consequences. Let’s check back in a decade. By then cannibalism will probably be legalized.

“Four very young men, all carrying guns, beat me violently down to the ground in front of our kids,” Shivanthi Sathanandan said in a Facebook post. “The young men held our neighbors up at gunpoint when they ran over and tried to help me. All in broad daylight.”

Well. Four juveniles. So I think we can say it was illegal for them to have guns. Does this liberal now understand that gun laws will do nothing?
No.
Further in her post she says they need to get the guns off the street.
It isn’t the gun, lady. It’s the person using it.
It is so sad when people refuse to learn.

Here’s a thought: What if even one of her neighbors had been armed?
The outcome would have been very different. The beating would not have gone on as long as it did and, maybe, some bad guys would be in jail.

There’s nothing like a brutal beat down and a broken leg during a carjacking to change a “defund the police” activist into a “law and order” advocate.  I’m not sure whether Saint George of Floyd will forgive this falling away from the faith.  It seems a little fickle.

Before beatdown:

In June of 2020, Sathanandan wrote in a post on Facebook: “We are going to dismantle the Minneapolis Police Department. Say it with me. DISMANTLE The Minneapolis Police Department.”

After beatdown:

“Look at my face. These criminals will not win. We need to take back our city. And this will not be the last you hear from me about this. Thank you to the incredible Minneapolis 4th Precinct Officers,

Maybe after she’s had a chance to wash the blood off her face she’ll calm down and realize that those kooky, crazy carjacking kids were just full of high spirits and she should chalk it up to reparations.  After all, maybe it was some form of white privilege or white supremacy or something white that triggered their understandable reaction.  Stop blaming the victims Shivanthi and look in the mirror for the true culprit.

Justified Deadly Force

Mike’s beat is documenting the absurd charges hurled at police whenever they are compelled to use deadly force in the line of duty.  In this case a young man, under the influence of what will probably turn out to be some psychotropic drug, smashed through a window onto the street, half dressed in the New England winter, brandishing a machete.

He was followed by the police for five blocks who begged him to drop his weapon.  When he turned on the police they first attempted to stop him with a non-lethal “sponge round” but when he charged one of the officers he shot the armed man several times with his service weapon, killing him.

So that seems pretty straightforward.  But the assailant was Bangladeshi and the incident took place in Cambridge Massachusetts, the home of Harvard University and most of the craziest people in New England.  I’ll quote from Mike’s article:

“Activist and Cambridge City Councillor Quinton Y. Zondervan tweeted, “We must reject the racist system of policing that is failing our young people,” likening the shooting to “the kind of racist, senseless killing that we read about in places like Ferguson.”

Such allegations have contributed to protests, calls for change, and local student newspaper The Harvard Crimson to write, “the shooting of Faisal, a Bangladeshi American, has spiked concerns of racism, Islamophobia, and police brutality throughout Cambridge.””

After discussing the inaccuracy of these characterizations of the police action and the actual record of the Cambridge Police Department over the last quarter century, Mike concludes as follows:

“When elected officials irresponsibly portray police as racist murderers, there are serious consequences. Besides these violent attacks upon the police, the lies have led to drastic changes in the criminal-justice system resulting in increased victimization of our citizens.

If Americans want serious leaders who support the rule of law and don’t act stupidly, they need to start voting smartly.”

In that last sentence Mike is parodying what Barack Obama said back in 2009 when he criticized the Cambridge Police Department as “acting stupidly” for arresting a black Harvard professor who was a buddy of his when he broke the law.  And of course all of this break down of law and order began when Obama’s Justice Department started using lawfare to attack the police departments of America’s cities and towns.

So aother day, another slander against police officers protecting the public from madmen running wild.

Even Starbucks Throws in the Towel

I just read this article from City Journal that says Starbuck’s is closing a bunch of urban locations because the increases in violence and theft are just too much for them to endure.  Now this is the same company that has championed “defund the police” and every other progressive platitude that came down the pike.  Of course, Starbucks is the icing on the cake.  The real issue is the closing of drug stores in places like Philadelphia, Chicago, Minneapolis and New York.  The Soros district attorneys have decriminalized shop lifting and so these stores have been emptied out so many times they are just clearing out.  And the poorest people who depend on these stores for everything from toilet paper to medicine are out of luck.

But hey, just keep on voting for those Democrats.  That’s working really well for you.  Bring it on, bring it on, bring it on.

Everyone else, stay away from the cities.  They’ll be death traps for a generation.

Beverly Hills Under Attack from Criminal Gangs and Rapists. DA Says Meh.

Here’s another data point to confirm that democracy does work.  The super woke residents of Beverly Hills are reaping the benefits of their election choices.  LA doesn’t arrest most offenders anymore and so the gangbangers and other career criminals have decided to branch out from South Central and visit their wealthier friends in Beverly Hills, Bel Air, Santa Monica and Los Feliz.

“On March 22, in the broad daylight of a typically gorgeous day in Beverly Hills, thieves in hoodies and sunglasses took a sledgehammer to the plate glass window of Peter Sedghi’s boutique and furiously rummaged through the shards. In less than 90 seconds, the robbers stole more than $3 million worth of jewels. Two days later, in response to a wave of high-end robberies, the Los Angeles Police Department announced there would be no arrests. Instead, it cautioned Hollywood residents not to wear high quality jewelry in public.

“Beverly Hills is one of the most affluent, safest neighborhoods in the world and now everyone is scared,” Sedghi said. “All of my clients – no one wears anything.”

While the total number of rapes fell in Los Angeles during the 37-month period studied, their share spiked in predominantly white neighborhoods – rising 18.2% in neighborhoods where they comprise 81% to 100% of residents.“

Personally I’m as pleased as can be.  I think this new form of community outreach is long overdue.

“The zip codes showing the largest increases are home to film and pop stars, including Beverly Hills, of “90210” fame, where Beyonce and Jay-Z have their West Coast house; Bel Air, of “Fresh Prince” Will Smith fame, where Jennifer Lopez now resides;  and Los Feliz, where Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom share a house and where Angelina Jolie has resided since her divorce from Brad Pitt. Nearby, the U.S. Postal Service has suspended delivery to one neighborhood in Santa Monica – a town where celebrities including Tom Cruise, Christian Bale and Sandra Bullock reportedly have homes – because “multiple carriers have been subjected to assault and threats of assault.”

Beyonce, Jennifer Lopez, Katy Perry, Angelina Jolie.  Yep, they will be able to embrace the more enlightened criminal justice practices currently on view in their neighborhoods.  They might want to tone down the bling displays and possibly invest in an extra bodyguard or two.
