Recently, I had a short conversation with someone on the Left.  In New England, that’s hardly an unexpected situation.  But for me to discuss the political situation with people on the other side of the political divide is quite rare.  Basically, I don’t bother to debate the political issues with those on the Left.  It serves no useful purpose for me.  We would not be able to even agree on the definitions of the things about which we disagree.  There’s no point of contact between our world views.

But a funny thing happened.  Someone I met in town while waiting in a line asked me what I thought would happen after the November election.  We had been standing in line and we were talking about Christmas get togethers and then we mentioned the New Year and he reminded me it was an election year.  I said in a neutral way that it was going to be an ugly campaign.  He agreed but said he thought that it would provide closure.  Specifically, he asked whether I thought that things would go back to normal if Trump lost.

I answered his question with a question.  I asked, “Would things go back to normal if Trump won?”  He flinched and said, “No, of course not!”  I asked why and he said, “Because that would be intolerable.”  I replied, “You’ve just given the answer to your question.”  He seemed very surprised and then thoughtful.  He stopped talking to me and we stood in silence until his turn in the line was called.  I can’t be sure but I think I witnessed an epiphany.

The people on the Left, a lot of them anyway, think Trump is some kind of a hypnotist that has mesmerized otherwise normal people into saying and doing things that they would otherwise not do.  They think that Trump voters are acting against their own best interests and even against their own beliefs.  They figure if Trump is eliminated then Republicans will go back to voting for Mitt Romney, Jeb Bush and Liz Cheney.  We’ll cheer for illegal aliens sucking up all the federal government’s resources.  We’ll come around to accepting doctors castrating boys and neutering girls and allowing perverts to groom young children in grade school.

They blame Trump for the revolt that he spearheaded.  They either believe or pretend to believe that all the stuff like Russia-gate and the suppression of Hunter’s laptop and COVID lab leak are just rightwing conspiracy theories.  So, they either believe or just hope that once Trump leaves the scene more reasonable Republicans will take control of the party and steer us back into the calmer days of George W Bush, or better still, Mitt Romney.  Mitt is every Democrat’s favorite Republican; technically competent, ethically spineless and willing to take any amount of abuse without uttering a single word in his own defense.

But I think I impinged on this one Democrat’s reassuring bubble.  I think I revealed to him that there is a mirror image to his world view.  And that it rules out the old status quo.  The old world where Democrats and Republicans were two ends of a single spectrum of American voters is completely gone.  It’s been replaced by a landscape where close to half the population feels like they’re living through an occupation complete with gestapo and fake elections.  They may be afraid to revolt against the army of occupation but that doesn’t mean they feel any kinship with their occupiers.

I think I convinced him that November isn’t going to end anything.  It’s just the beginning of the next phase, one way or the other.

The Walls of Stupidity

My perusal of the political opinion crap pile today included an article called Don’t Panic When You See New Trump-Biden Poll Numbers.   Apparently, the latest WSJ poll has Biden and Trump tied at 46%.  And the Left’s reaction is a cross between astonishment and panic:

“My informal canvas of liberal friends reveals that this feeling — something like incredulous despair verging on panic — is not unusual. We tamp it down and joke about it, but it never disappears. Tens of millions of Americans are fine with Trump’s brand of revanchist authoritarianism, and even yearn for it. Tens of millions more see him as just one choice among many; maybe they’ll vote for him again if the price of gas goes up.”

This post of mine isn’t meant to blow this poll result into some kind of hopeful sign that the Democrat voter fraud effort will somehow fail to fabricate the requisite millions of fake ballots needed to steal the 2024 election.  Far from it.  I see that as the reality that we now live with.  Protected by the Justice Department the blue city Democrats have carte blanche to steal any election that depends on these states with large cities like Pennsylvania, Georgia and Arizona.  That’s a given.

But what this poll does tell us is that about half the country no longer believes the narrative.  In the old days telling the American voters that a candidate was a criminal and that he tried to steal his last election from the rightful winner would have completely destroyed his chances in any subsequent election.  Under that old idea of political reality Donald Trump or anyone who was branded a criminal the way he has would be polling 0.0%.  In fact, there wouldn’t even be a spot for him on the polling sheet.  He would just be a cautionary tale about not allowing crazy people to enter politics.

But that’s not today.  Trump panicked the Left.  He triggered the Deep State to pull out all the stops.  They activated all of their bag of tricks; phony prosecutors, phony judges, fake news, FBI goon squads, the COVID voting fraud, basically anything and everything.

So that is what my article is about.  This poll result is what I would call proof that everyone that can be awakened to the truth about our government and politics, has been.  These people are selecting Trump not despite the criminal charges but specifically because of them.  The prosecutions are proof that the system is rigged.  And Trump is our protest vote against this charade.  We are saying, “We see you behind the curtain pulling the strings.  We’re not fooled.  We’re not going to pretend.”

Now this in no way means that we will somehow overcome the regime that runs our country.  They are vicious, powerful and firmly entrenched.  Their actions to eliminate the middle class are proceeding at flank speed.  They have the whip hand and they know it.

But this awakening is a radical shift in the dynamic.  It means that the narrative is dead.  We’re not going to contribute to our own demise.

We’re not going to cheerfully adopt insanities like DEI, transgenderism, endless immigration or climate change as if they were for our own good.  We’re not going to pretend that the endless wars are making us safer.  Appeals to patriotism or legitimacy of rule or even fair play are meaningless.  We have the same relationship to the regime in Washington that the Russians had to the Soviet government.  It was their oppressive master that had to be avoided by any means possible and for which the hope was that eventually it would collapse on its own due to corruption, stupidity and the cumulative effects of the people’s resistance to its rule.

And so, I have the proof I need to unequivocally say something fundamental has changed in the United States.  We are now two different populations with completely separate narratives and diametrically opposed agendas.  The “point of no return” has been reached.  Donald Trump broke down the walls of our stupidity.  We should all thank him for that.

28MAY2023 – The First Stirrings of an Awakening

A beautiful Memorial Day weekend and plenty of yard work will keep me busy today and tomorrow.  I look through the headlines and see the usual mix of depressing, ridiculous and muddled.  All of the Left is breathlessly cheering on Team Trump vs Team DeSantis, hoping that they will injure each other mortally.  And the Target pride month news showcases just how far this country has fallen as our largest retailers capitalize on the destruction of a generation of children.

If I’m to find anything hopeful in all of this it’s that a critical mass seems to have been reached.  Finally, a large chunk of the American public is aware that really awful stuff is being normalized.  Between Bud Light and Target, we’re finally seeing the people who don’t pay attention to the news at all waking up to the fact that evil people are in charge of their whole world.  From the doctors and lawyers, to the mega-corporations, to the politicians who run the country; everyone is on board with the program to pervert and destroy children.

And I’m not saying that this awakening will solve the problem.  The lopsidedness of the fight is almost comical.  We struggle to even catch the attention of the powers that be.  Maybe we can destroy one product in the catalog of a multi-national beverage manufacturer that will still make billions around the world.  Maybe a major retailer will miss earnings forecast for one month.  Maybe.

That’s not much.  But it’s where you have to start.  Elon Musk has provided at least one platform where people can share ideas and hear both sides of the story.  That’s not a small thing.  It’s so important that the Left is apoplectic about it.  They’re doing everything in their power to destroy Twitter by trying to convince advertisers to boycott it.  And who knows, maybe they’ll be successful.  To be honest, I never understood how the business model for the social media sites could actually work.  I assumed that it was a government sponsored monopoly and without the blessing of the FBI and the CIA it wouldn’t be economically viable.  But he’s trying to make it happen and it’s a blooming miracle that it exists for us.  And so, Ron DeSantis has Twitter as a place to launch his campaign as opposed to going on one of the hostile cable news platforms where they’ll parse out sound bites that distort his message and weaken his appeal.  It’s not much but it’s a beginning.

It’s a beginning.  But it’s definitely not winning.  What would winning look like?  To my mind winning would be a corporation stepping forward and announcing publicly that they were on our side and wanted our business at the expense of the business from the Left.  It would be a beer company that said it didn’t support pride month because it didn’t celebrate what pride month stood for.  It would be a retailer that said it wouldn’t support BLM because it was anti-American.  Instead, it supports the police because they stand for law and order without which the store couldn’t exist.

Winning would look like red states beginning the long, slow, painful process of coordinating their policies to protect their citizens from the federal government.  They would cooperate to the extent of sharing data on illegal aliens and Antifa so that these menaces could be dealt with.  They would protect and indemnify their citizens who are attacked by the federal government; by the IRS and the FBI.  They would begin to crack down on crime in their big cities and force welfare addicts to work.  They would force reform of the public schools and eliminate objectionable content in the curriculum.

So, there’s no winning going on.  None of that stuff is happening.  All we have is the very beginnings of an awakening.  There’s my thought for today.

What We Really Want

There are all kinds of grievances that make up the Great Revolt.  Losing freedom of speech, freedom of association, privacy rights, family protection, second amendment protections, anti-globalist protections religious freedom and a lot more.  But it all can be summed up with one idea.  We want the right to be ourselves again.

Somewhat for the last fifty years but mostly for the last fifteen we’ve been told that who we are is wrong.  Our religion is wrong and our ideals are wrong and our dreams are wrong.  Lately, our history is wrong along with all the heroes of that history.  The whole continent we came from is wrong.  And now they’ve revealed that the color of our skin is wrong, intelligence is wrong, and math is wrong.  Even being a man or woman is wrong.  Basically, being human is wrong if it doesn’t follow the specific script and narrative they’ve specified this morning because even that narrative can change at will.

There is no misunderstanding.  There are no things we can do that will satisfy the Left.  They want us gone.  That is not an agenda that non-suicidal people can accommodate.  We really don’t have a choice any more.  We must escape from their control by whatever means will succeed.  Places must be created where we can exist as ourselves.  We are not going to take back the whole country in the foreseeable future.  Most of the East and West coasts are hopelessly mired in wokeness as are all the big cities.  But there are plenty of other places that can start the revolt.

And it is beginning in a small way.  The court challenges are starting to happen.  Right now, we even control the Supreme Court temporarily.  But the states are going to have to step up in a larger way.  One of the states, maybe Florida, maybe Texas, maybe somewhere else, has to take a stand and say the whole Bill of Rights is non-negotiable and will be enforced within its jurisdiction.  And then some other states need to join it and make it a movement.  There’s nothing violent or warlike about demanding to be given the rights that have already belonged to Americans for almost two hundred and fifty years.  This isn’t a revolution, it’s a reformation.  The government is corrupt.  The bureaucracy has usurped the power of the people and needs to be put back in its place.

From my point of view, if restoring the rights we always had is unattainable then the advantages we have from living in the most powerful country on the planet are illusory.  We’re just somewhat well-fed slaves.  And the well-fed part can change without notice.  We’re going to find out very soon if changing the status quo is possible or impossible.  We’re not going to get a better chance to reverse things than over the next three years.  The COVID lockdowns have annoyed even the placid animals called swing voters.  We will get back at least one house of Congress this year and maybe two.  The crime wave from the BLM riots has decimated the cities.  If no one steps forward during this cycle no one ever will.  And if we agree to live this way then we are abject slaves.  And there is plenty of precedent for that in human history but if we do knuckle under then it will put to rest the myth of American independence.  We can stop talking about the land of the free and the home of the brave.

What Comes After

As we live through what seems like a never-ending series of ever more outrageous assaults on sanity, we might be forgiven for thinking that the lunatics are now in permanent control of the asylum.  But I’m not so sure that is so.

I sense that the madness that’s been unleashed by the Left to undermine the re-election of President Trump is a very desperate gambit.  After all, look at the damage that the Left has done to the areas that are the centers of their control.  New York, Chicago and Los Angeles have been shut down and ravaged by roaming bands of violent lunatics for months.  The small businesses in their states have been bankrupted.  The economies in those places haven’t recovered from the COVID lockdowns and the normal people living in those places have been exposed to the ruthless and arbitrary exercise of violence that the woke mob has been empowered to wield by their elected officials.  And the woke anti-white agenda is now being fully implemented in schools and businesses across the country.

While it is highly unlikely that places like California or New York would flip their political affiliation to the Republicans this year it is much more likely that places like Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania will.  Even places like Nevada, Colorado and New Mexico have that potential sometime in the future.  And the reason is not so much that this or that politician is running for office.  It’s that people are beginning to see that they are being played.

If Donald Trump can re-ignite the economy by simply taking a pro-American stance on trade deals and tax incentives that encourage corporations to hire American workers then it is clear that the anemic economy that has been strangling American families for more than half a century is not the inevitable result of the world we live in.  It is a plan that the political and corporate elites have chosen to inflict on us.  They long ago calculated that replacing the middle class with an underclass beholden to them for the crumbs they would provide, would permanently shift the balance of power in this country into their hands.  Bringing in an endless stream of immigrants could be used to lower wage expectations while providing the votes needed to overwhelm populist reaction to the outrages being perpetrated against the citizens.

And with the Democrats and the Republicans in collusion with this plan there was little that Americans could do.  No matter who they voted into office they got the same result.  When the Democrats had the White House, it was socialism and cultural Marxism on steroids.  When the Republicans were there it was foreign wars and slightly disguised socialism and cultural Marxism.  We knew something was wrong but how it was being done wasn’t clear to the average non-progressive man in the street.  All we knew was even when we won, we lost.

But then Donald Trump came along and he pulled back the curtain and showed us the fraud.  He dared to expose the illegal immigration scam and the Anti-American global economy scam that the Republicans were colluding in and people understood.  He got elected and he turned the economy around.  And he was attacked by literally every power center in this country and around the world.  The FBI, CIA, NSA, the State Department, the IRS, the EPA, parts of the leadership of the Armed Forces, all the Blue States like California, New York and their state courts and attorneys general, all the federal court judges appointed by liberals in both parties, Google, Facebook, Twitter, the NY Times, Washington Post, ABC, CBS, NBC, MSNBC, CNN, every college faculty and administration, Wall Street, most corporations, the Chinese Communist Party, the European Union, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United Nations and every NGO and non-profit organization that fronts for socialist policies.  Even Republican leaders like House Speaker Paul Ryan worked against the President’s agenda.  And none of them were able to destroy him and he was able to push through many of his policy goals almost single handedly.  And then the Chinese unleashed a bioweapon on the country and he had to negotiate the insanity of shutting down the United States economy and restarting it again with a lunatic like Anthony Fauci spouting nonsense and undermining any reasonable efforts to find a workable solution to the pandemic.

But when even that wasn’t enough the Left reactivated BLM and Antifa and allowed them to burn down the downtowns of the Democrat controlled cities.  They passed down the talking points to political and corporate mouthpieces and we were lectured to and berated by our betters on the sins against diversity and inclusion that we were all guilty of by birth.  And those who live in blue states know that the propaganda war to shame anyone born white is in full swing.  But I think the jig is up.

I think we have finally reached the point where anyone who isn’t hopelessly stupid or unshakably beholden to the Left is aware that all of this woke nonsense is a pack of pathetic lies.  Cops aren’t roaming the streets looking to murder black people.  George Floyd and whatever other black criminal du jour they find resisting arrest aren’t innocent victims.  At best they are victims of their own criminality that makes them statistically most likely to finally end up in the hands of the rare police officer who is also criminally irresponsible.  America isn’t a hotbed of white supremacists.  Women aren’t victims of discrimination and sexual deviants have been provided with more tolerance than anyone could hope to justify.

I think the result of all this is people aren’t going to be afraid that the Left will think they’re racists, misogynists, homophobes or any other label that basically has been discredited by the excesses of the Left over the last hundred years of shrieking.  No matter what they do the Left is going to call them that anyway.  What is there to lose by at least standing our ground now?  Nothing.

So, the point has been reached.  Intimidation by threatening to call us names like racist won’t work anymore.  It’s all in the open.  Now we’ll find out who is the stronger horse, us or them.  That will determine whether the lunatics get to keep control of the asylum or not.  I’m betting on us.

Thanksgiving Message – 2019

How the year does fly.  Another remarkable journey around the sun is almost complete and so of course we get to the two Great Holidays, Thanksgiving and Christmas.  These are the times when we gather together with friends and family and enjoy rich food and good company.  And Thanksgiving is supposed to be the day we count our blessings.

The last couple of years have been happier and more prosperous thanks to President Trump’s policies.  The economy has recovered from the Bush/Obama Depression and a number of his executive actions and judicial selections have given us something to be hopeful about.  The “Resistance” has seemed to reach the point of open absurdity with impeachment now looking like a losing issue for the Democrats instead of the President.

So, all of that is reason to be thankful and I agree it is.  But what I’m most thankful for is that I can see.

I can see through the GOP Establishment in the government and in the press and recognize them as just part of the enemy that we must beat.  They are the ones who have been responsible over and over for snatching defeat out of the jaws of victory and selling us down the river to the Progressives for money.  The Republican politicians did it for the money they get from lobbyists to vote for sending our jobs and industries to China and allowing endless immigrants to replace us.  The Republican Pundits (and judges) sold us out for the right to go to the Left-Wing dinner parties and rub elbows with the Cloud People.

That knowledge is what I’m thankful for.  Now I know who my enemy is and I also know what I have to do to protect me and mine from their agenda.  Donald Trump showed us what it means to be unafraid of being called a deplorable.  If all they can do is call you a racist or misogynist or homophobe or transphobe then we can ignore them and get on with our lives.  We can search out like minded individuals and form our own society.  It won’t be easy or without pain but so what?  What good thing ever is?  And we won’t vote for anymore McCains or Bushes or Romneys.  No more mealy-mouthed losers who call themselves Christians or Conservatives or whatever they want to pretend to be but vote for depravity and defeat.  No more.

This year I took the whole Thanksgiving week off and was able to enjoy time with family and help prepare a little for the feast.  This year we have family from near and far arriving and Camera Girl has risen to the challenge and will have a total of 48 pounds of turkey and two refrigerators full of other mouth-watering delights including cornbread and sausage stuffing, mashed potatoes, turkey gravy, sweet potatoes, candied yams, buttered rolls, buttered corn, cranberry sauce, cranberry jello mold, peas and onions, roasted Brussel sprouts and cranberries and string beans and almonds.  For dessert there will be apple pie, pumpkin pie, cocoanut custard pie, blueberry pie, home-made ricotta cheese cake, ice cream and chocolate covered fruit.  And lots of strong coffee

After that we’ll collapse in the living room and watch Laurel and Hardy in the 1934 movie, “March of the Wooden Soldiers” and the 1939 animated version of, “Gulliver’s Travels.”  Then I’ll spend time playing with my grandchildren and making plans with them for the holidays.

So, tomorrow may not see much in the way of posting unless something earth shaking occurs.

But Happy Thanksgiving to all you folks out there and may you and your family enjoy a feast and a wonderful time.

04NOV2019 – American Greatness Post of the Day – A Great Awakening to the Fight is Upon Us

Mark Bauerlein has written an article that confirms what many including myself have been saying for a long time.  The sleep walkers are starting to awake.  Even the most timid of the social conservatives have admitted to themselves that they can’t negotiate their way out of the trap the Left has them in.

He also links to a speech that Robert George gave at the Catholic Information Center that goes into painful detail just how beaten the social conservatives have been by their enemies.

Finally they both say the words they have been afraid of uttering all these years.  The Left is the enemy, this is war and if they don’t want to be forced into the re-education camps they’ll have to fight.

Finally.

How Will the Deplorables Get Organized?

In an earlier post I talked about the Great Awakening on the Right.  And every day makes that claim more obvious.  The old way of framing the agenda on the Right and those that championed that mindset are becoming less and less relevant.  Fewer people even care to argue with these yesterday men anymore and are abandoning their sites and publications for more relevant sites.

All of that is clear.  What isn’t clear is what comes next.  The New Right is anything but monolithic, in point of fact it’s like a boiling pot.

I struggled to come up with a witty analogy for what the current situation could be described as.  Here is an idea.  Let’s say that Cold War Conservatism was like a tool that was cast from various metals to form an alloy.  Anti-Communists, Social Conservatives and Fiscal Conservatives would be examples of some of those components.  During the Cold War it more or less held together and to some extent it served its purpose.  But because of the preferences of the metallurgist who formulated the alloy it included some materials that didn’t actually alloy very well but ended up as unassimilated lumps which made them weak spots in the structure.  These weak spots would be the Neo-Cons and the Limousine Republicans.  And he also left out some materials that would have made the alloy stronger or more useful but he didn’t care for their source.  This would equate to when the Paleo-Cons like Buchanan were ejected twenty years ago.

When this tool began to crumble it no longer served its purpose so the owner has gone to another metallurgist and asked him to recast the tool.  Well, waste not want not.  So, the metallurgist took the scrap left from the old tool and broke it up and discarded the lumps that hadn’t alloyed previously and threw the rest in the crucible and melted it down and then added some of those previously excluded materials to the melt.  This molten metal is currently mostly just potential.  It has no known properties yet.  Soon it has to be cast and cooled and tested to find out if it’s any better than the alloy before.

Okay, enough poetry.  My point, right now we’ve decided that Conservative Inc. is broken.  We’ve taken a sledge hammer to it and now we’re taking the good-looking chunks and throwing them into the melting pot and chucking clinkers like JEB! and Mitt and Bill Kristol and George Will into the slag heap.  We’re also adding in some nationalism and some pro-normal-American identity politics into the mix.  And right now, we have a molten mass that has no known properties, just potential.  But soon it will coalesce into something.  Now someone has to build the mold to cast it into a usable tool.

So, four hundred words into this word goulash I’m getting to my point.  What’s next?  What will this new thing look like?

First of all, I don’t think it will become a new political party to challenge the Republicans at the polls.  Splitting the non-progressive vote is suicide.  I think we continue to take over the Republican party.  Most (but not all) of the truly hard core RINOs have done us the favor of retiring or switching sides.  Without a doubt there are plenty of grifters still in Congress and the government in general just looking for the paycheck and the perks.  But that’s not something that will ever change.  But when the wind shifts our way these vampires will at least rubber stamp what the majority of the party endorses in order to keep their meal ticket punched.

But there has to be some organization to allow for the debate and consensus building that goes along with a movement.  The old right had the GOP Establishment and the think tanks and the media entities like the National Review and the Weekly Standard to debate and communicate policy.  We have none of that.  We have blogs and a few mainstream media voices (Rush or Tucker) and then nothing.  Some of these sources will expand.  Some of the mainstream media (maybe Fox, maybe not) will jump on the bandwagon.  But is a political organization necessary?  Everyone remembers the fiasco of the Tea Party.  The last thing people want is a raft of grifters sucking up funds and side-railing actual results.  But how does any organizing get done?  How do decisions and policy get decided?  It doesn’t seem that everything can be done informally.

My guess is an umbrella organization could provide a way for local groups and single-issue groups to coalesce around a common platform. A consensus could be reached that allows politicians and activists to know what the deplorables are thinking.  But how to get something like that going?  A few ways occur to me:

  • A social media site can provide functionality for the organization and communication needed to negotiate some kind of a policy platform.
  • One of the existing think tanks can sponsor a convention either actual or virtual for the deplorables to attend and coalesce around. I’ve liked some of the people who have come out of Claremont Institute.  Maybe that is a possibility.
  • The Republicans might finally wake up and realize that they are throwing away the golden opportunity to represent their natural constituency. If they would analyze how and why President Trump was able to wash away their whole field of candidates and the Democrats, they would see that he threw in his lot with the normal people and rebelled against his own class.  If the Republicans had the courage to follow his lead they would be rewarded with loyal voters.
  • Finally, President Trump may have to do it himself. His own structure to organize the deplorables on a permanent basis would be another workable option.

I’ve said that it needs to be done but I’m not trying to kid anyone into thinking it will be easy.  When I said that the New Right is like a boiling pot I wasn’t kidding.  Chaos and kinetic energy are the only rules and there is absolutely no consensus between the various groups that make it up.  They range from radical separatists who are busy storing ammo for the shooting war, to Tea Party civic nationalists who can’t figure out why John McCain didn’t get elected in 2008, to religious businessmen who want the government to stop persecuting them for their beliefs, to Rust Belt forgotten men who want to stop the globalists from putting the last nail into their economic coffins.  Herding cats would be a cakewalk in comparison.  But it will need to be done if we hope to avoid being back at the mercy of the Stupid Party.

It will be interesting to see if someone steps up to get the ball rolling.  I’d volunteer myself but the day job keeps me pretty busy.  But it’s an enormous opportunity for a savvy operator.  I’m undecided whether it will be a silicon-valley type, or a media operator, or a venture capitalist, or another entrepreneur like Trump.  Or maybe it will be one of the Dissident Visionaries who first recognized that the GOP Establishment were actually the Washington Generals.

But if it doesn’t happen, we could end up with the next generation of the Bush clan being foisted on us as the future of the right wing.  Anyone old enough knows that’s how we got into this mess in the first place, GHW Bush telling us he was a conservative.  If that happens, we run the risk of this whole project ending up on the slag heap.  Total failure.
