What’s Ahead for the House of Representatives

There’s a title searching for an answer.  What will happen?  What could happen?

Almost anything could happen.  Suppose enough of the Uniparty Republicans get nervous about not sending enough money to Ukraine.  Maybe they’ll vote for the Democratic Minority Leader to be Speaker.  I’m sure it could happen.  Maybe Matt Gaetz and Jim Jordan or Steve Scalise sit down and hammer out something that will keep Gaetz satisfied but won’t shut down the government.  Maybe that could happen.  The wackiest outcome would be Trump selected as Speaker by the Republican House members.  I give this outcome something like one in a hundred thousand odds.  And even if this was just a temporary situation, I’d love to see it happen.  The heads exploding in both parties would be tremendously entertaining.  And let’s face it.  Schadenfreude is just about the only thing left to enjoy about our situation.  After all, we’re all going rapidly broke while Joe Biden fiddles and burns everything down.

But it seems fair to say that whoever becomes the Speaker of the House should have to align himself with the Republican voters in this country and all the polls show that the one person that the clear majority of Republicans see as their leader is Donald Trump.  Both the Republican Speaker of the House and the Senate Minority Leader should be taking their marching orders from Trump.  And of course, that goes against their individual financial interests.  Because most of the slush money they get comes from voting for government policies for special interest groups like the defense contractors and banks and pharmaceutical manufacturers.  Doing the right thing for our country is way, way down near the bottom of their list of priorities.

But McCarthy getting bounced and all the anti-Trump congress critters like Liz Cheney getting primaried is starting to make an impression on the Republican politicos.  I think it’s starting to dawn on them that the gravy train could be over if they don’t move “doing the right thing for the country” much higher up the list.  And they don’t even have to believe in what they’re doing.  They can just follow the herd as Gaetz and others tell them what they must do to stay employed.  If Gaetz and his colleagues are clever enough they can convince the bulk of the Republicans that they have the leverage to put the screws to Joe Biden without paying a price in 2024.  After all Biden is despised by the majority of the country.  Making him pay a high political price for the problems he’s already caused should be within the abilities of moderately intelligent politicians.  Precedents are lying around in the recent electoral past.  The 2008 campaign that was a referendum against George W Bush should suffice as a template.

So, I’ve laid out the most optimistic scenario.  Everything more pessimistic is also out there.  Normally at this point I’d state that my guess was much, much gloomier.  But I don’t know, I don’t feel that down on the outcome.  It could be senility or something but I’m willing to see how this thing plays out.  Let Gaetz and his cohort sit down with Jordan and see where this is going to go.  Maybe a few good men can get something done in the cesspool that is DC.

Anyway, that’s enough words for now.  Enjoy the rest of the nice day we’ve been served up.

I Ask for Donald Trump and You Give Me Nikki Haley?

The headline reads, “Major GOP donors eye Nikki Haley and Ron DeSantis as the top Trump alternatives.”  Farther down it says,

“Mark Harris, the lead strategist at the pro-Haley Stand for America super PAC, released a memo after the debate touting the position of the lone woman in the primary “after two strong debates.” A Haley fundraising appeal on Thursday told supporters she has been “FLOODED with a nonstop SURGE OF SUPPORT,” following the debate.”

So, Nikki Haley is surging.  Her support is rising.  Well my stomach is surging and churning and my gorge is rising just thinking about her.

You know, I think I’d prefer Joe Biden as president rather than Hikki Haley.  It’s hard to imagine but I can’t think of anyone who wouldn’t get my vote over Nikki Haley.  Except maybe Barack Obama.  He might be a tad worse.  Luckily, he’s blocked on constitutional grounds.  But even JEB! would be preferable to her.  Romney would be close.  They have a lot in common.  The smug elitist attitude, the tone-deaf position on conservative issues.  But I think even Mitt would get my vote instead of Haley.

It’s amazing to think that establishment Republican operatives see Haley as a top choice.  But it makes sense.  She gives them a candidate that they can package as checking off all the right boxes.  Female, check.  Non-white, check.  Pro-abortion, check.  Pro-Ukraine, check.  Pro-Gaia, check.  Smug elitist attitude, check, check, check.  These are the people who gave us John McCain and Mitt Romney for president.  They know a cheerful loser when they see one.

So, look, this isn’t shocking or even surprising.  The powers that be will select the least authentic, most bought and paid for loser they can find.  And that is Nikki Haley through and through.  Then, why am I writing about this?  Because it makes me crazy knowing that they’ll keep doing this over and over again.

And this is why Donald Trump is the only candidate I can vote for.  He’s the protest vote against all of this phony nonsense.  Even after W, McCain, Romney, JEB and everything that went on in 2020 they still try to push Nikki Haley as a conservative.  It’s enough to make you want to throw up.  Because what they’re saying basically is, “Either you’re too stupid to see what we’re doing or too weak to stop us from doing it and we don’t even care which it is.”

And so, if in November 2024 the ballot for president has the name Nikki Haley as the Republican candidate I’ll vote for the Democrat.  Even if it’s Joe Biden.  Even if it’s Kamala Harris.  Heaven help me, even if it’s the stupidest man on planet Earth, Don Lemon, I’ll vote for him.

I’m not voting for their clowns anymore.  Bought and sold won’t work.  We’ve gotten a look behind the curtain and we’re not likely to forget.  So, 2024 can be the beginning of the new world.  No one votes for fake conservatives anymore and we abandon federal elections until our choices are credible.  No more Mitt Romneys, no more Bushes and definitely no more Nikki Haleys.  Boycotting these phonies is precisely what will change things.  In the meantime, local politicians will gain in importance and eventually one of them will be the clear choice in presidential elections.

Who knows, maybe a new party will replace the Republicans.  The time is past ripe for it.  Once the party starts losing every election I could see a massive defection of conservative Republicans to a third party at some point.  That would leave the phonies and the grifters like Mitch McConnell and Lindsay Graham high and dry and all alone.  I guess they can call up their old friend Nikki Haley and see what she’s up to.

The “Real” Reason Romney is not Running for Re-Election

I just read as much as I could stand of an impossibly long article in the Atlantic about the “real” reason Mitt Romney is leaving the Senate.  Apparently he’s afraid that someone’s going to try and shoot him.

Well, I guess he knows best.  And then again maybe he just knows that this time around he’d lose in the primary.  That’s right, despite his assurances in 2012 that he was a severe conservative I think his track record has finally caught up with him, even in sympathetic Utah.  His fellow LDS brethren have figured out he’s a fraud and are getting ready to kick him to the curb.

So let’s chalk this up to Mitt seeing what happened to Liz Cheney and the other Never-Trumper Republicans and figuring he could save the money he’d otherwise lose and ride off into the sunset.  So he gave that phony baloney excuse about fear of assassination and will look for a blue state that needs a manager to help monetize whatever aspects of government they can before going bankrupt and become their governor.  California looks primed for a Mitt makeover.

I have to apologize.  Two Mitt articles in two days is a bit much.  But I figured everyone could use a laugh.  The image of Mitt Romney as some kind of martyr to his political convictions is too absurd not to produce at least a chuckle.  Instead of assassination I could imagine him being stalked by Nelson Muntz from the Simpsons who would dispense a Wet Willie, some noogies and maybe a Swirlie.  But nothing more dangerous than spoiling his make-up and hairdo.

The End of Mitt Romney is in Sight

Readers who have been around here awhile are aware that Mitt Romney misrepresented me for years as Governor of Massachusetts.  I despise the man as the embodiment of all that is wrong with establishment Republicans.  He is a despicable fraud who has no actual conservative beliefs.  The RINO’s RINO.

As explained below Mitt is not running for re-election.  I take this as a sign that even in Utah, normal people are starting to wake up.  Now if only a legitimate conservative will find himself on the ballot, there would be a net improvement from this fortuitous situation.

But knowing Mitt I suspect he’ll find some new way to undermine conservative America.  He’ll probably found a non-profit from which he’ll fund transgender surgery for octogenarian albino pygmies or something.

Don’t go away mad Mitt.  Just go away.

25AUG2023 – 2024 Primary Thoughts

We’ll be bombarded for the next year and more with the 2024 election nonsense.  And the important political races will be things like primarying Mitt Romney out of his senate seat.  Maybe Mitch McConnell is coming up for a leadership vote too.  These are feel good events that we can all embrace and enjoy.

But I’ve come to the conclusion that short of a nuclear war, nothing will keep the Democrats from holding the White House for the foreseeable future.  And since if there is a war, I won’t be around anymore I’ve decided not to get too excited about all the hoopla.  So, the Republican presidential primary race isn’t particularly important with respect to how it plays out.  But does it serve any purpose?  Well, maybe.

A case can be made that it can provide information on the Uni-Party.  The talking points of the most obviously anointed of the candidates can tell us a lot about what the official party line of the Republican establishment is supposed to be.  You might further ask what use knowing that could be.  Well, the obvious answer is amusement.  It’s always fun to know just how stupid they think we are.  Come to think of it most people really are that stupid.  In fact, I was one of those stupid people just a decade or two ago.  I actually believed that George W Bush was a conservative and that he cared about the people on the Right.  What a dope I was.

But being mugged by Operation Iraqi Freedom opened my eyes thoroughly.  So, hearing Nikki Haley talk about how unlimited spending for Ukraine is the highest priority for the United States is hilarious.  Right now, the Ukrainians are being blown to bits in the minefields of Zaporizhzhia trying to approach the first of Russia’s three defensive lines.  Funneling more money and weapons to the Ukrainians will keep the meatgrinder going until the last Ukrainian has been fed in.  When that’s done the plan is the Poles and Balts are next.  When they’re used up it’s supposed to be our children that get fed in.  Something tells me that’s gonna land with a thud.  The Right is who usually fights these wars.  Well, we’ve been smartened up.  So now the millennials and zoomers on the Left are up to bat.  But they already spoke up back during the middle eastern campaigns, “No way bro, let someone else take care of that.  I’ve got pot to smoke and artisanal beer to brew.”  So yeah, Nikki Haley’s talking points tells you that the Uni-Party needs our kids to fight the Russians.

Aside from entertainment, the party line is valuable to know because it gives us a chance to see which of the candidates aren’t complete shills for the donor class.  For people like Haley, Hutchinson, Pence and Christie nothing needs to be proven.  Their tickets are stamped coming out of the gate.  What about this Ramaswamy guy?  Can we parse what he stands for or at least pretends to stand for?  And how about DeSantis?  Has he revealed his bottom line.  He’s already flip-flopped on Ukraine.  So, we know his donors must have given him an earful over his initial position that the war was a local affair and none of our business.  Is Ron a bought and paid for neocon?  Maybe.  That’s important information to ferret out.  After all he’s been about the best Republican governor in years.  How do these two things square?

I guess the other information that comes out of the primary will be where the pundits stand.  We’ve already seen that Fox News is now enemy territory.  Their mission is to support the establishment positions and candidates and attack Donald Trump whenever possible.  It’s been interesting to see how Tucker Carlson has become an outpost of right-wing realism in an ocean of left-wing propaganda.  Elon Musk has shown a willingness to allow free speech on his “X” platform.  That has been a veritable miracle.

And the last thing that will be interesting in the primary is what Donald Trump tells us about his plans.  He’s been kind of vague on what he plans to do either in the election or if he wins.  Of course, he’s the same old Trump and whenever he talks about his accomplishments there are no mistakes or defeats.  So, it’s an open question if he really has a plan to defang the Deep State.  It’s possible his plans have to remain unspoken to allow for the element of surprise.  But I would be less skeptical if he could share them with us.

But there it is.  We’re going to be marinated in this clap-trap for the next fourteen months and just to stay sane we’ll have to address it somewhat.  I’ll do my best not to take it too seriously.  But who knows, maybe something incredibly compelling will occur during this madness and I’ll be caught up in the excitement.  You never know.

Is Utah Still a Red State?

They’re about to get a chance to find out.  Trent Staggs is running against Mutt Romney in the 2024 Republican Senate primary.

I got the chance to see Mitt Romney up close and personal when he was the Governor of Massachusetts.  He was a hopeless loser that the Dems pummeled like a punching bag.  So by now it’s become abundantly clear that Mittens is the ultimate squish RINO.  Any real conservative should be thrilled to see him primaried.

Now I only know what I’ve heard about Utah lately.  Is it still majority conservative or have the Californians taken over.  Any locals out there, feel free to share your thoughts in the comments section.

But you know my feelings on spite and revenge.  Seeing Romney deep sixed would be a sinfully exciting experience.  It would probably add a hundred years to my time in purgatory but I’ll pay that price gladly.

It’s over now but I think the whole circus has actually been a net positive. The worst thing that could have happened yet another round of Democratic Lite policies from the House. We’ve seen a number of those and just look at where they got us.

Maybe, just maybe this will lead not just to a veto of the egregious Dim policies but also a showcase of policies desperately needed by the country even if not enacted for now.

Also, someone has to look hard at Biden to determine if he is, as I suspect, wholly owned by the Chinese Communist Party. And the Dims simply won’t do it.

The Dims have long concluded that the Constitution, freedom, financial sanity, rational policies, the betterment of the nation all be damned, that the true brass ring is raw power achieved by any means. Anything that hinders their ultimate achievement of that goal is a plus.

If the Republicans prevail in the house and senate in the midterms but McCarthy and McConnell remain as the leaders, just look for more of the same. But if we could somehow get Rand Paul and Jim Jordan, it would be happy dance in the streets time.

Both these guys are fighters, the opposite of the current “leadership”. Have you ever seen more inept “leadership” than offered to us by Paul Ryan and McConnell in 2016-2018? They did nothing at all despite having the House, Senate and Presidency by substantial margins.

The current Dims hold all three branches but the two legislative branches by razor thin margins. Despite which, they are ramming incredibly destructive legislation down our collective throats. And all we have to counter them is the ineffective duo of McCarthy and McConnell?

15JUN2022 – Another One Bites the Dust – Tom Rice Primary-ed Out of Existence

Tom Rice, one of the Republicans who voted to impeach Donald Trump lost his primary election for re-election to challenger South Carolina state Rep. Russell Fry who was endorsed by Trump.

As I’ve made abundantly clear I am a vindictive jerk who sees pay back as a very important part of life.  But just to show just how stupid this Rice guy is, look at who he brought in to help his re-election campaign.  Paul Ryan and Chris Christie!

Rice’s race has received national attention, in part because of Trump’s rally in the district. But Rice himself invited out-of-state Republicans to stump with him, such as former House Speaker Paul Ryan and ex-New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, amplifying his Trump record.

Look, this guy is obviously a hack and a loser.  He’s not Mitt Romney stupid but given time and money he might have reached those exalted heights.  So let’s think of this as a mercy killing.  Well, we’re getting closer and closer to the election and that list of ten Republican Congressmen who voted for impeachment is getting shorter and shorter.  As the primary season ends I’ll do a review and we’ll savor the schadenfreude as we say goodbye to them one last time.

Adios Tom.
