Our wacky friends at Sonyalpharumors have an SR4 (almost a certainty) alert out about a new lens that they think will be a long telephoto 400 – 600 range).
(SR4) Sony likely to announce a new new wildlife/sports lens on June 5/6!
I find that very interesting. I’m in the market for a long lens and I have toyed with the idea of getting the Sigma 150 – 600 but I’d love to see Sony give us a native lens. I figure the native autofocus would be amazing. What might also be amazing (in a bad way) is the price. Sony lenses have e a pretty stiff premium and anything north of $4K would start seeming exorbitant even to me. But I’d still rent it to try it out so bring it!
Sonyalpharumors.com has upped the odds of the A7 III being announced tomorrow (26FEB2018) to 75%. Of course the calculus of rumor mongering is far from an exact science, but in this case I think he’s probably right. And just to sweeten the occasion Sigma has announced an FE mount lens. It is an Art Series 105mm f/1.4. And it looks like a beast with its own tripod mount. Looking toward the horizon I hope after the announcement it won’t take long to learn if this new camera has good autofocus. One interesting development in the rumor is the fact that the autofocus system has more contrast detect points than phase detect ones. This continues a change in direction from the A9 which had many more phase detect than contrast. I’ve always thought the contrast detect points were much less functional so I see this as a bad sign. Time will tell.
Sony Alpha Rumors has an SR4 rumor for the A7SIII arriving next week.
(SR4) Sony A7sIII (or A9s) to be announced on October 18. It is a Full Frame GH5 killer?
Now that’s a camera I’m definitely interested in. They say it will have the auto focus of the A9. If that’s the case and it isn’t $5grand I have a feeling I’ll be getting it before Christmas (but let’s call it a Christmas gift). Now, SAR has been wrong before (oh brother have they) but I think they have it right this time. For you Sony fans Christmas may be coming early after all.
