Reading the National Tea-Leaves

I think the experience of the last several decades of American politics has made it clear that there are two completely different and, in some ways, diametrically opposed cultures existing within this country.  And it’s also clear to me that they cannot coexist.  How this will play out is not obvious.  I can think of a few scenarios as to how this will evolve but which one will actually happen is unknown to me.

First, I guess is the possibility that the status quo will go on forever.  I find this scenario the least likely.  The amount of psychological damage being done to the country is extreme and anger that is starting to build up is starting to break out into acts of extreme violence.  Look at what’s happening with psychotic individuals committing mass murders just to protest against political and social conditions.  It seems to me that of its own accord the current situation will fall apart in a very few years.

The second possibility is that the two sides break into open hostilities.  I think this is a likely short-term result.  The range of hostilities can stretch from low level guerilla activities all the way up to organized warfare on a national scale.  And it can also wax and wane.  I think that warfare of whatever type is also a temporary situation.  I think one way it could be settled would be for an agreement to loosen the terms of the federal government to allow both sides to control life within their own jurisdictions.  So, the red states will be red and the blue states will be blue.  So, by allowing the two sides to live the way they want on their home turf, it permits them to allow for the not-so United States to continue as an entity.

Another outcome would be a split of the United States into two separate countries.  And of course, there would be a national divorce that allowed for the divvying up of the family assets.  So, both sides would get a certain number of thermonuclear warheads and nuclear submarines and aircraft carriers and maybe someone would win a coin toss and get to keep the name United States and the US Dollar and Washington DC (although I think the red states will be happy to part with that last item).

Now there is one other outcome that I haven’t listed.  And that is where one side or the other wins a complete victory on the battle field and forces the losing side to live under the conditions that the winning side dictates.  And to be honest I don’t think that for both sides would want that outcome.  If the red states won an all-out war, I think they would use the victory to force a separation into two states.  Of course, being on the winning side, I could imagine it would be a division that favored their side pretty generously but, in any case, I think they would be glad to extricate themselves from the union with the blue states.  On the other hand, I think the blue states do want to dominate the red states and if they won a military victory, they would use the situation to force their ideology on the red states.

So, this is a pretty bleak prognosis.  But I think it is accurate.  I guess the most optimistic scenario is that after a very brief and relatively minor war the two sides decide to stay together under a looser confederation.  This is actually my hope.  What do you think?

Devolution

The world I live in has been changing at a rapid rate for the last four years.  The COVID and George Floyd strategies combined with the Biden administration’s green revolution, Ukraine war, the opening of the border to all illegal aliens and finally the intelligence agencies use of extreme surveillance and control over the social media platforms have truly changed the way of life in the United States in a fundamental way.  I guess this is what Barack Obama meant when he talked about fundamental change.  He meant destroying the middle class and eliminating law and order.

But we’re still here.  Where could we go?  Europe has been similarly wrecked.  There is no other place.

So, I often wonder how life will adapt under these new conditions.  What was the saying back when everyone thought overpopulation would be our downfall?  “We’ll all be a little hungrier by and by.”  Well, that sounds likely.  Both here and in Europe the powers that be are eliminating farmland, making farming more expensive and making things like fuel and fertilizer much more expensive.  So, let’s assume the hungrier idea is likely.  Of course, many would note that currently obesity is running rampant so how could we be going hungry?  On the contrary, obesity and malnutrition can certainly coexist.  Junk food can be pretty cheap.  But it means shorter life and ill health.  So healthy food will be scarce, unless you count crickets.

We already know that energy in all its uses will be very expensive.  This means homes will be less comfortable, travel will be less frequent, work will be closer to home and all goods that have to be shipped will be more expensive.

Jobs will be harder to find and professional work will be scarce.  Learning trades will once again be a very important avenue for employment.  Colleges will fail on a grand scale.

And the existence of law and order will be on a case-by-case basis depending on who is in power in the local area.

Put all those things together and what kind of a place will we be living in.  First off, I don’t it will be one place.  We’re already seeing different areas of the country diverging from each other.  California and other areas that encourage the importation of large numbers of illegal aliens are already becoming very third world with large homeless encampments, very high crime, high taxes and businesses fleeing to safer areas.  Whereas places like Florida that discourage crime, illegal aliens and high taxes are booming and attracting new businesses.

What this means is that there will continue to be a polarization between the red and blue states and this will cause issues where the blue states will use their control of the federal government to try to outlaw the red state practices that give them advantages over their blue “neighbors.”  How this resolves itself over time is an open question.  If the red states successfully defend their sane policies eventually the blue states will become moribund and they will even lose their control of the Congress and White House due to population loss.

But if the federal government uses force to compel the red states to comply with the blue state practices, then we will be headed for the Brazilification of the United States.  And at that point it truly will not matter where you live.  At that point.  We might as well be in Mexico City, Entebbe or Soweto.  Our lives will be nasty, brutish and short.  And probably better so.

Well, a lot is riding on this upcoming election.  Here we go again.

2024 – Us and Them

Without question we are now living in a new period of American history. It’s palpable. Every action of the regime and its partners in the bureaucracy reinforces the idea that they no longer want to follow the rules of the game. If somehow “the people” no longer recognize the obvious rightness of their rule then extraordinary means are justified because by definition, the people must be under the influence of misinformation or disinformation or (heaven help us) malinformation. In which case any action is justified up to and including the rack, drawing and quartering and finally burning at the stake.
I can’t even completely define the full extent of the change but you can sense it in the way that people on both sides of the fence talk and also who they will and won’t talk to. Maybe the easiest change I can point to is the fact that the two sides are no longer trying to convince each other of anything. Mostly they now just talk to themselves but to some extent the two sides are still trying to convince those in the middle to choose sides. But that middle has shrunk quite a lot. The spread between the Left, Middle and Right used to be 30%, 40%, 30%. Now it’s more like 40%. 20%, 40%. It’s still an important 20% but it’s not the same exercise any more. Instead of trying to finesse someone with a better sales pitch, both sides are now shouting bitterly at those in the middle about their blindless to the stark reality around them.
And because the reality is currently very stark indeed, the Right is having the better of the argument. Even empty-headed white feminist suburbanites are looking past their hatred of Trump and voting their dwindling bank accounts. For these dwellers in the middle there’s no permanent place on the Right. They’re part of the Left’s coalition for as long as they benefit from affirmative action. Lately white women have been starting to lose their preferred status on the Left as various other constituencies like “BIPoC” and “LGBTQ” flavors of the month increase in status and numbers. Will they reliably shift to the Right? I guess only if sex based affirmative action were to end. But that’s a long way off.
But getting back to the original point the Left and the Right do not try to convince each other of anything. The Right used to try to work in good faith to find a middle ground with the Left. And since the Left never negotiated in good faith that just meant a steady retreat leftward by the Right.
But all that has happened in the last few years has convinced any conservatives who aren’t brain dead that compromise is an illusion. Resistance and conflict are the only way to interact with the Left. And so that is the way to distinguish between media outlets that were supposed to be conservative and those that actually are. The neo-cons are still out there and you can hear them “making the conservative case” for voting for Nikki Haley or Chris Christie. Even the formerly conservative Fox News is now squarely in the neo-con orbit. Of course, they hate Trump. I guess that’s the acid test. But for me the Haley thing is the tell. It shows what their job is. Fox News isn’t there to tout Joe Biden. It’s to fool the dumber conservatives into thinking Haley would be a better version of Donald Trump. All the tax cuts without the mean tweets. Sort of JEB! 2.0. That is how the Left is going after the 20% in the middle. Biden is poison, so they’re trying to sell Haley. The fools will think that Haley can compromise with the Left and we’ll all live happily ever after.
But the 40% on the Right is finally awake to reality. They know they live in occupied territory and they are adapting to the situation. What they no longer have to do anymore is make believe the Left is part of their country. They never were but now it’s crystal clear. And as dire as our situation is, it’s still better to be making decisions based on clarity than based on delusional thinking. Us and Them.

10APR2023 – Through the Looking Glass

“Curiouser and curiouser!”  (Lewis Carroll, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland)

In the late 1970s I thought America had lost its way.  We had elected a terrible president in Carter and everything was coming apart at the seams.  But then we elected Reagan and it seemed like the ship had been righted and America was back to what it should be.

In the nineties we got George Bush 1 and that got us Bill Clinton and once again were going down the wrong path.  In 2000 we tried to fix things with Bush 2 and then everything went to hell.  We got 9/11, endless wars, bankruptcy for the country and that led to Obama.  That was horrible and I could see the country fraying at the seams.  When Trump came along it was like a last lifeline thrown to us.  There was some honest talk and the hope that maybe we could undo the damage that had been done over the last several decades.  But then came the George Floyd riots, COVID and the 2020 election fraud.  And now after the 2022 midterms it’s official.  We were being kidded along.  The powers that be control the country and we were never going to be allowed to run this country.  We were just chumps who fight the wars for them.  There’s no way back to what we thought was normal anymore.

“But I don’t want to go among mad people,” Alice remarked.

“Oh, you can’t help that,” said the Cat: “we’re all mad here. I’m mad. You’re mad.”

“How do you know I’m mad?” said Alice.

“You must be,” said the Cat, “or you wouldn’t have come here.”  (Lewis Carroll, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland)

Now it’s apparent that what’s happened is more than just the Deep State usurping the political process and stealing elections.  Really what’s going on is that the majority of the population has bought into the new America.  Minorities, white women and the youth have drunk the cool-aid and love Big Brother.  They believe in global warming, saving Gaia, transgender surgeries for ten-year-olds, the desirability of a childless life and owning nothing and liking it.  Joe Biden’s America is what they aspire to.  They believe in this madness and we aren’t going to talk them out of it.

“Would you tell me, please, which way I ought to go from here?”

“That depends a good deal on where you want to get to,” said the Cat.

“I don’t much care where–” said Alice.

“Then it doesn’t matter which way you go,” said the Cat.

“–so long as I get SOMEWHERE,” Alice added as an explanation.

“Oh, you’re sure to do that,” said the Cat, “if you only walk long enough.”  (Lewis Carroll, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland)

So that leaves the rest of us in a quandary, where do we go from here?  That’s the one no one can answer.  All the smart people on the Right who fulminate against the managerial state and the hive and the deep state and the oligarchy don’t have an answer to what we do or where we go or how to get to a better place.  Frankly I don’t think they know.

And I can’t blame them.  I don’t know either.  But it seems we must try to do something.  Just going along with the others is giving in to madness.  And the only hopeful thing is that we’ve seen so much of the grift being used against us that we have at least gained a little wisdom.  There’s the hope that we can at least tell the difference between something real and the fakes and the crazies.  At least we can hope that’s the case.  So, we have to keep trying.

‘I could tell you my adventures–beginning from this morning,’ said Alice a little timidly: ‘but it’s no use going back to yesterday, because I was a different person then.’

“Who are YOU?” said the Caterpillar.

This was not an encouraging opening for a conversation. Alice replied, rather shyly, “I–I hardly know, sir, just at present– at least I know who I WAS when I got up this morning, but I think I must have been changed several times since then.”  (Lewis Carroll, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland)

And after all that has happened and all we’ve learned about the lies we were told about our country, who exactly are we.  What part of the country doesn’t want this “brave new world” of wokeness?  And what unites us?  Is it just cultural traditionalists?  Or does it include civic nationalists who believe in the wisdom of the United States Constitution as a basis for a civil society.  Can we put together a coalition that is willing to risk everything we have to free ourselves from the tyranny of the Left?  And will it have any permanence?  Who will be our leaders?  Certainly not the likes of Lindsey Grahams and Mitch McConnell.  They have shown their stupidity and baseness.  Where will we find leaders to unite us and help us achieve our freedom?

Alice laughed. “There’s no use trying,” she said: “one can’t believe impossible things.”

“I daresay you haven’t had much practice,” said the Queen. “When I was your age, I always did it for half-an-hour a day. Why, sometimes I’ve believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast.”  (Lewis Carroll, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland)

And even if we figure out who we are and what we want is escaping from this mad world possible?  The brainwashed masses who believe in the dictates of the Hive are totally madmen.  But the cynical people who control the country and own most everything there is to own are quite capable of using the apparatus of the federal government to destroy their enemies most efficiently.  They have trillions of dollars of equipment and millions of pawns under their power and no scruples at all about using them against anyone who won’t knuckle under.

How exactly are we to move them out of our ways?

Being Preached to by a Congenital Liar

I read through some of Creepy Joe’s speech.  It’s the usual bizarro world version of reality.  Evil is good, down is up and crazy is sane.  It’s good to see he’s pulling out all the stops.  So, here we have Biden doing what he always does, lying through his teeth.  Putting aside questions of wholesale voter fraud, we will see whether suburban women will vote for their families or their place in the hive.  I think it’ll be close but I could be wrong.  Last year we had Virginia vote against a party that was trying to propagandize their children at school.  Since then, the economy has tanked and the Biden administration has weaponized the IRS.  Experience says the Democrats will be punished but Roe v Wade will stir the women into a frenzy, at least the crazy ones.  So, we’ll have to see how all this goes.

But I think it’s worth mentioning that this country must be pretty far gone if we’re in this situation.  Anyone who has been paying attention knows that not only is Joe Biden an inveterate liar and an influence peddler but also that his whole term as president has been an unmitigated disaster.  He allowed COVID to tear apart the economy of this country and then he bungled every single task that presented itself.  He stoked inflation with senseless multi-trillion-dollar payouts to people who should have been back at work.  He allowed bureaucrats to force useless and unsafe vaccines on people who neither wanted nor needed them.  He watched as his incompetent Pentagon botched the Afghan retreat.  And he’s stood by like a mook while the cities of this country have descended into lawlessness.

And now that his underwater approval rating is poised to lose the Democrats both the House and Senate, he gives this imbecilic hit piece of a speech claiming that half the country is an evil treasonous cabal against the virtuous forces of his storm troopers in the FBI.

And of course, the media laps it up.  They’re completely on the same page.  But what about the American public?  According to the polls about 40% think Biden is doing a good job.  Well good for the other 60%.  But 40% of America is a big number.  If there are that number of people satisfied with Biden then we’re in big trouble.  In fact, even with massive fraud it still shouldn’t have been possible for him to have gotten elected in the first place.  And that’s why I’m starting to wonder if there is any long-term hope for this country.

Even if we take back Congress in November and the White House in 2024, we’re still looking at almost half this country composed of some combination of crooks and imbeciles.  That’s got to be too high a percentage to allow for the long-term survival of this country.  And I don’t know what I’m supposed to say about that.  The smart thing would be to figure out a way to loosen up the federal system so that the states that aren’t as filled with stupid people can survive the stupid decisions that the stupid states make.  But how does that get done?  You can see why I’m more than a little dismayed.

But at the very least I hope the House impeaches that lying sack of crap for all of the crimes that have already been exposed on the infamous Hunter Biden laptop.  He deserves a prison sentence that he surely couldn’t outlive but I’d settle for seeing him exposed publicly in front of all the dimwits who voted for him as the crook he truly is.  At least it’s something.

Return to Reality?

So here I am thirty-six hours after returning from the wilderness where for the most part I had no internet access or information on what was going on in the world for the last two weeks.  And to be totally honest I can’t detect any change in the status quo.

Sure, Joe Biden’s approval rating has sunk three or four more points.  The economy has continued to sink into stagflation.  And the progressive cabal is still doing everything it can to destroy what’s left of the American people.  But headlines from two weeks ago look more or less the same as today’s.

What did change was that I had a chance to relax and think a little about the state of the world.  And I even had a chance to talk to different people about what they thought was going on.  And what I heard reinforced what I’ve been thinking.  Basically, the elites have the rest of us by the throat.  The mask is off.  We and they are not “us.”  They’re calling the shots and unless we want to lick their boots (and even if we do) they’re going to do whatever they can to make us disappear.

I heard the code words and talking points from both sides.  Listening to the conversations among the members of the managerial class on vacation with their families and among the deplorables was edifying.  Even out there in the middle of nowhere with grizzly bears and bison as your closest neighbors, people talk about the 2020 election and the 2022 elections and the January 6th Charade and the economy.  And it couldn’t be more polarized.  The so-called Republicans who hate Trump are searching for a way to get rid of Biden without facing up to the reality that Donald Trump will still be there in 2024.

The reality that I see is we’re just going to have to grind this out.  Any talk of bipartisanship is a ploy.  I read an article from Bret Stephens, a Never-Trumper, in which he tries to apologize for calling Trump voters “moral ignoramuses” but can’t quite do it.  After all they still want to vote for Trump now after the unforgiveable sin of January 6th.  Stephens’ point is that Republicans can’t really want closed borders, safe streets and fair elections because then Trump wins and that is beyond the pale.  From my point of view there is no meeting these people in the middle.  Whether they are progressives or establishment Republicans there is no middle.  It’s capitulation or war.  So, it’s war.

And I’m totally alright with that.  They are going to pull out all the stops.  There will be BLM riots and Antifa intimidation.  The administrative state and the Biden executive orders will make our lives a living hell.  But that’s nothing new.  And the sum total of all this misery is crystallizing the opinion in more and more people of every stripe that the Democrats and their allies are destroying this country in order to satisfy their agenda.

Green energy and the New World Order’s war with Russia are making middle class life impossible for everyone but the members of the elite.  And their war on the police has turned the cities into death traps.  This is the perfect time to see if the elections are completely rigged.  If the Democrats win the mid-terms in this environment, then what the dissident right says about not being able to vote our way out of this mess is verifiably true.  But if there is a landslide that crashes the Democrats in both Houses then that seems like a very hopeful sign to me.

It’s only four months away.  Seems like something worth waiting around to see.  So apparently camping out in the middle of nowhere isn’t really shutting out the world.  It’s more like proving that a microcosm reflects the macrocosm.  People are who they are.  Whether they’re waiting to see a grizzly bear chew on a bison carcass or tweeting about Trump.  They show their true colors.  That’s reality.

Reflecting on Progress

Today will be a busy day here.  We’ve got a big high school graduation party happening, with friends and family enjoying a near perfect summer day.  The pool will be full of kids.  Burgers and dogs will be scarfed down and lemonade will flow.  And tomorrow I go to another party for my niece who is also graduating.  After the horror of the COVID lockdowns this summer feels like heaven.  And coming up in a couple of weeks is the big trip to Yellowstone so busy, busy, busy.

But I wanted to reflect a little on the juxtaposition of the Bidencrash and the SCOTUS decisions.  Here is proof that all is not lost.  Even in the grip of the Deep State coup that foisted a doddering idiot on us as the so-called “leader of the free world” we see that large swaths of the country are still ready to take advantage of opportunities to throw off the shackles of leftist control and restore normality to their lives.  Thanks to the courage of those five judges, we have seen incredible change unleashed.  Several states have already outlawed abortion completely.  That’s a stunning change.  The people in those states have taken back control over their lives and redefined what is right and what is wrong.  That is not a trivial thing.

I can only imagine what next year’s Supreme Court docket will include.  And I imagine what it will be like when this country is clearly seen to be two different nations, Blue and Red.  And I welcome this contrast.  Because finally, finally there actually will exist freedom.  It will be freedom of choice.  Freedom to decide which America we want to live in, Blue or Red.

And that will be a revelation.  The people in the Red States will not be upset about the choices that the other side has made.  They will be unconcerned at the abortion, transgender pronoun signaling and all the other manifestations of mental illness on display in the other America.  In fact, they will be glad that these things exist as a cautionary tale to show to children when they ask why it is important to have clear standards of what is healthy and what is diseased.

But the people in the Blue States will be foaming at the mouth and bellowing in rage at the knowledge that there exists a world where their power to sow confusion and misery is excluded and rejected with impunity.  After their decades of growing power and finally complete cultural control over our lives, this transformation will be maddening.  I expect countless acts of vandalism and violence in the coming months and years.  But it will still be a relief to know their control over our lives is over.

Now I know I’ve gotten ahead of things.  The events of the last couple of weeks are barely a sliver of daylight peeking through a sky of solid clouds.  But that sliver is so blindingly bright that it lights up the world.  We see what can be.  We know what we want now.  We want to be free of the control of insane ideas and the crazy people who espouse them.  It’s clear how easy it is to reach this goal when the people we choose for leaders aren’t part of the mad house we’re fighting against.  Donald Trump has fully vindicated his value as a leader.  He did what fifty years of Republicans couldn’t, or rather, wouldn’t do.  He gave us an honest Supreme Court.  He gave us back our Constitution.  Say whatever you like about his shortcomings as an individual.  He accomplished something stunning.

He gave us back hope.

Goodbye to All That

Robert Graves is probably best known today for his historical novel “I, Claudius.”  He was a British officer in World War I and after enduring the horrors of trench warfare he became completely disillusioned with patriotism and in fact British civilization in general.  As a declaration of this rejection, he wrote an autobiography called “Goodbye to All That.”

By this he implied that he rejected the social structure that had defined British society before the war.  To him that whole way of life, that way of looking at the world, and what it stood for had been invalidated and rendered absurd.

In a way, the Left is saying a similar thing.  They’ve rejected the basis of traditional American life.  But they’ve done more than that.  They’ve rejected the basis of all traditional human life.  They no longer recognize things as fundamental as the difference between a man and a woman.  They deny the objectivity of science and even mathematics.  They reject meritocratic principles.  Essentially, they desire to reject reality and order the world according to some fantasy that they have concocted in their heads but that doesn’t seem to have any permanent rules.  So, the Left has said goodbye to all that.

But by the same token it is necessary for us to say something similar.  The concept of the United States of America as a cohesive, unified nation has now been invalidated and rendered absurd.  America is a geographical and political entity that contains multiple, and in some cases, hostile segments of the population that no longer see each other as countrymen.

Worse than that, the Left uses the patriotism they no longer believe in to bamboozle traditional Americans into sacrificing their self-interest when it benefits the Left.  So, we’re “fellow Americans” when the Left wants us to fight a war or share the wealth with underprivileged minorities.  But when it’s time to celebrate anything of ours, well, that’s just white supremacy.

It’s time for us to say goodbye to the idea that everyone living in the United States of America is an American.  It’s simply not true.  Worse than that, acting as if it were true is counterproductive and sometimes even dangerous.  We’re going to have to start separating from the Left in important ways.  We’ll need to send our children to different schools.  The public schools will be too dangerous.  And because of the discrimination that’s already apparent in woke corporations we’ll need our own businesses.  So, we’ll need to be able to identify each other in order to hire our people for these companies.  How we’ll do that is something I’m not sure of.  Probably recommendations will be the best way to know someone is one of us.

But the first step and the most important step is to start distinguishing in your own head between the different kinds of people living in the United States and do everything in your power to maximize your dealings with real Americans and minimize your dealings with Leftists.  I’ll admit this was a hard realization for me.  I’ve always been a flag waving patriot.  But I know now that the Left has destroyed many organizations and institutions like the public schools.  We don’t have the luxury of thinking that these are our institutions.  They’re not.  We just can’t assume that everyone believes what we believe and is our friend.  We have to stick together and boycott the rest of them.

Maybe someday things will go back to normal and we’ll all be one country again.  It’s possible though doubtful.  But for the foreseeable future it’ll have to be, goodbye to all that.

What Will Our New Nation Look Like?

Everyone talks about the “Two Americas.”  One of them is well defined.  The Progressive America has declared its mission statement.  It is the Woke, Anti-White, Globalist Nation.  It will continue down that road for the foreseeable future.  If we want to see what it will look like in a few years it will look like San Francisco, Portland, Minneapolis, Chicago and Atlanta.  It will be a place that pits various grievance groups against white people, men, people who aren’t sexual deviants and probably other groups that haven’t yet been attacked because no one has had a chance to think up a grievance against them.  Based on current trends I would guess that the next target will be people who can legitimately pass a course in high school geometry.

So that’s one nation.  The other one is ours.  A lot of people assume that our nation will essentially be like what America was before the grievance movements started changing things in the 1960’s.  That is a possibility but I wouldn’t say it’s the only one or even the most likely outcome.  And I won’t pretend that I’m sure how it will turn out but I have been thinking about it lately.  I’ll go through my thinking on it.  Thinking about it methodically seems the most comprehensive way to avoid missing any cases.

I’ll start with the most pessimistic scenario, of course.  Let’s call this the complete triumph of the Left or the complete collapse of the Right.  Whichever angle you take on it, it’s where the Right loses all political battles and essentially disappears from the culture.  So, all the old ideas and customs disappear and are completely replaced even in memory with the woke culture.  Freedom of speech disappears and individual freedom becomes reduced to which particular sexual deviancy you currently espouse.  Basically, it will look like California everywhere.  If I’m being honest, I might say that this is one of the likelier possibilities.

Slightly less pessimistic, is the case where people like us become a sort of shunned pariah minority.  Sort of the way the Coptic Christians exist in Egypt after the Arabs established Islam as the state religion.  They are despised and their place in society is always subject to assault by the authorities and even by the population at large.  Everyone knows that if the Copts are persecuted beyond what the law already prescribes it is very doubtful that the perpetrators will suffer heavy consequences.  And once again, this is not an unheard-of eventuality.  In fact, it’s sort of the status quo in blue states.  Think of that wedding baker in Colorado who keeps getting charged by the authorities for following his conscience, even after the Supreme Court has already found in his favor on the facts of the case.  Harassment and persecution all the way down.

A third case would be for the Right to prevail in some subset of the United States territory.  So, let’s say that the country doesn’t technically break up but the individual states are allowed to legislate social policy according to their beliefs.  One way this might work out is for these states to keep the current status quo.  Leave all the current laws but enforce the things that the federal government has been neglecting.  So, for instance they might enforce immigration laws and protect first and second amendment rights.

But they might decide that they want to roll back many of the things that the federal government and especially the Supreme Court have ordered over the last 50 to 70 years.  And there is a whole boat of things that would be covered there.  In reverse chronological order that would include, transgender rights, gay marriage, sodomy laws, abortion and affirmative action.  And there could be many other changes.  Access to welfare could be curtailed or eliminated altogether.  Even programs like social security and Medicare and Medicaid might be eliminated.  One thing that might be changed is the concept of citizenship based on birth in the territory of the United States.  Even the right of citizens of other states immigrating into another state might be questioned.

So, it could be seen how in a place where these types of changes are being considered or even enacted the nature of citizenship and patriotism would be very different.  Maybe Texan would become a much more important identifier than American.  And I could see regional identity become something important.  If several adjacent states coordinated their legal and commercial affairs, they could make a region almost the equivalent of a nation state.  I don’t claim to think this option is one of the most likely but I can see how it might be the most beneficial arrangement for our nation.

Another possible outcome but much less likely is the Right essentially wins.  We somehow build a big enough coalition to win the legislative battles and make the administrative changes that prevent us from being victimized by the Left.  Here we have to assume that the process of coalition building will involve identity groups negotiating quid pro quo arrangements where no one would get everything they wanted.  It would mean that this coalition would still be made up of adversarial groups fighting in a zero-sum game and only cooperating in the face of the greater evil that the Left represents to normal people of various ethnicities.  This will be a kind of cold civic nationalism where grudging tolerance will be the rule.  Once again patriotism will not be any part of this society.

I guess the final case is where someway, somehow Americans come to their senses and realize that what they had in the mid-twentieth century was as close to heaven on earth as anything could be and reject leftism and all the harmful and dysfunctional policies that the Left has spread and fostered.  Then we would have a country like we used to have.  I rate the possibility of this case so close to zero that arrays of supercomputers working on the probability couldn’t find a non-zero decimal place in the whole number.

So, these are the cases I can come up with.  Do you know of any other case?  Which one do you think will occur?

Guest Contributor – Jason M – How We Should React to the Left’s Attacks

I’m almost of the opinion that since they don’t want to do anything more than threaten (I agree with you on that), then we should use the sable-rattling as an excuse to escalate things. Call their bluff, so to speak. The problem is that it has to be coordinated and purposefully and resolutely led. An individual would simply be prosecuted (ie Jan 6 investigations).

Otherwise, without getting into legality, the “easiest” answer to me is a new nation. Let them have what they want and let us have what we want. In the 1860s, the northern states acdtually needed the agriculture of the southern states so it made sense to fight over secession. That’s not true any longer.

Presumably, any nation is just a collective of “similarly-minded” people (Or at least, similar on key, fundamental issues). That being the case, what is the argument from the left AGAINST forming 2 nations within our area of the continent? One nation for “them” and another for “us”?

“It’s illegal!!” Prove it! And even if you can prove it, so what? Make it legal, then.
“But the Constituion…!!” So? The Constitution was written, endorsed, and signed by men who forcibly declared their independence from their sovereign nation!

Seriously, what is left? What argument can possibly stand up to the logic of simply forming a second nation? (I say “simply” because it is the thought process that is simple here, not the actual forming of a new nation.) The “sides” here are so diametrically opposed to one another that “one nation” is no longer logical.

Actually, now that I think of it, the national debt is a big problem with this thought. How does it get split? Then that leads to other things like Social Security… while these things are issues that stand in the way, if we truly wanted to, we could find equitable solutions to anything if people were willing to work in good faith toward those solutions. And therein lies the problem in my cynical mind. I don’t trust “them” to work in that good faith.

Now I’ve succeeded in depressing myself… thanks brain… thanks Photog.
