{"id":1009,"date":"2017-04-23T00:31:56","date_gmt":"2017-04-23T04:31:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/orionscoldfire.com\/?p=1009"},"modified":"2017-04-29T17:54:00","modified_gmt":"2017-04-29T21:54:00","slug":"reading-the-tea-leaves-reviewing-the-a9-hands-on-reviews","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/orionscoldfire.com\/index.php\/2017\/04\/23\/reading-the-tea-leaves-reviewing-the-a9-hands-on-reviews\/","title":{"rendered":"Reading the Tea Leaves &#8211; Reviewing the A9 Hands-On Reviews"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I viewed the YouTube hands-on reviews by all the Sony guests at their demonstration.\u00a0 I watched Max Yuryev, Patrick Murphy-Racey, Steve Huff, Jason Lanier, Tony &amp; Chelsea Northrup and Gary at DPReview.\u00a0 They seemed pretty positive.\u00a0 But based on my previous experience of the difference between the first hands-on reviews and the performance of the camera in real life conditions I found them inconclusive on the most important point, auto-focus accuracy.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s why I was very encouraged when I viewed the video by David Schloss, the editor of Digital Photo Pro.\u00a0 He\u2019s written in the past ( <a href=\"http:\/\/www.digitalphotopro.com\/gear\/cameras\/dslr-is-still-king\/\">http:\/\/www.digitalphotopro.com\/gear\/cameras\/dslr-is-still-king\/<\/a> ) about the inferiority of mirrorless autofocus compared to DSLR.<\/p>\n<p>Then in this A9 review (\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=PVUsA_lSnBw\">https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=PVUsA_lSnBw<\/a> ) he mentions that even the A-6500 autofocus which is touted as excellent is still not as good as DSLR autofocus.\u00a0 This sounds like someone speaking the straight dope.\u00a0 And he says the AF on the A9 is flat out incredible.<\/p>\n<p>By the video discussion Schloss is seeing the A9 autofocus on sports subjects like boxers, hockey players and pole vaulters in motion.\u00a0 Most likely the lighting conditions were optimal.\u00a0 To my mind this represents a legitimate test of the AF.\u00a0 This may not guarantee that the A9 can compete with the D5 or the 1DX but it should satisfy my needs for medium level DSLR level autofocus.
