{"id":10462,"date":"2020-04-02T12:11:51","date_gmt":"2020-04-02T16:11:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/orionscoldfire.com\/?p=10462"},"modified":"2020-04-02T12:11:51","modified_gmt":"2020-04-02T16:11:51","slug":"a-little-more-information-comes-in","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/orionscoldfire.com\/index.php\/2020\/04\/02\/a-little-more-information-comes-in\/","title":{"rendered":"A Little More Information Comes In"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Some information I\u2019ve gotten in the last day or so:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.veteranstoday.com\/2020\/04\/02\/small-trial-results-hydroxychloroquine-effective-for-covid-19-treatment\/\">A Chinese clinical study<\/a> that included a control group found that patients taking hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) had a shorter time to clinical recovery, as well as improved pneumonia. Even the NY Times reported on this although they downplayed the President\u2019s role in touting HCQ.<\/li>\n<li>One of our family relations in New York City was in critical condition on a ventilator with the COVID-19 virus. His wife had to sign a release to allow the doctors to use a treatment.\u00a0 A couple of days after the start of treatment he is off the ventilator much improved and talking to relatives on the phone.<\/li>\n<li>I had a chance to do some back of the envelope calculations to see how the death statistics look for this thing with respect to patient\u2019s age. Here it is:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-10464\" src=\"https:\/\/orionscoldfire.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/age-vs-deaths-for-COVID-19.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"196\" height=\"331\" \/><\/p>\n<p>So over 88% of people who die are over 60.\u00a0 82% are over 70.\u00a0 That tells me that dosing all the old age homes with an anti-viral (which HCQ is) would go along way to knocking these death rates down by almost a \u00a0factor of 10.<\/p>\n<p>There are plenty of smart people who want his thing to end sooner and without hundreds of thousands of deaths.\u00a0 I\u2019m hoping they start looking at the numbers and figure out that targeting the elderly is the key to dropping the mortality from this thing way down.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Some information I\u2019ve gotten in the last day or so: A Chinese clinical study that included a control group found that patients taking hydroxychloroquine (HCQ)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_mi_skip_tracking":false,"_exactmetrics_sitenote_active":false,"_exactmetrics_sitenote_note":"","_exactmetrics_sitenote_category":0,"footnotes":""},"categories":[5],"tags":[2371,2372],"class_list":["post-10462","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-current-events","tag-coronavirus","tag-covid-19"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v20.4 -
