Or harass the foe from the rear<\/p>\n

Storm fort or redoubt, you had only to shout<\/p>\n

Now the heroes were plenty and well known to fame<\/p>\n

In the troops that were led by the Czar<\/p>\n

And the bravest of these was a man by the name<\/p>\n

Of Ivan Skavinsky Skavar<\/p>\n

He could imitate Irving, play poker and pool,<\/p>\n

Then this bold Mameluke drew his trusty skibouk<\/p>\n

With a cry of \u201cAllah Akbar,\u201d<\/p>\n

And with murderous intent he ferociously went<\/p>\n

They parried and thrust, they side-stepped and cussed<\/p>\n

Of blood they spilled a great part<\/p>\n

The philologist blokes, who seldom crack jokes<\/p>\n

Say that hash was first made on the spot<\/p>\n

They fought all that night neath the pale yellow moon<\/p>\n

The din, it was heard from afar<\/p>\n

And huge multitudes came, so great was the fame<\/p>\n

As Abdul’s long knife was extracting the life<\/p>\n

In fact he was shouting, “Huzzah!”<\/p>\n

He felt himself struck by that wily Calmuck<\/p>\n

The Sultan drove by in his red-breasted fly<\/p>\n

A splash in the Black Sea one dark moonless night<\/p>\n

Caused ripples to spread wide and far<\/p>\n

It was made by a sack fitting close to the back<\/p>\n

A Muscovite maiden her lone vigil keeps<\/p>\n

Neath the light of the cold northern star<\/p>\n
