Cowboy Bebop \u2013 A Sci-Fi TV Review \u2013 Part 1<\/a><\/p>\n

So I\u2019ve watched two and a half of the discs.\u00a0 Interestingly Netflix says there is \u201cUnknown Availability\u201d for Discs 3 and 6.\u00a0 How\u2019s that for the customer is always right?\u00a0 I\u2019m liking the show.\u00a0 The episodes vary.\u00a0 Some are back story.\u00a0 Some introduce new characters.\u00a0 There\u2019s usually at least a little bounty hunting involved.\u00a0 The ratio of comedy to drama is high.\u00a0 The visuals are a mixture of standard cartoon and high-end graphics.\u00a0 Some of the space scenes are especially well done and interesting.<\/p>\n

I\u2019ve been trying to think of what I can compare the viewing experience to.\u00a0 As I said in my last post, there is a decidedly close resemblance to the look and atmosphere of Firefly.\u00a0 But because it\u2019s animated it\u2019s obviously not identical.\u00a0 And in a related sense it is reminiscent of Westerns.<\/p>\n

Not being a recent consumer of Japanese cartoons, I guess another thing it reminds me of are the Japanese cartoons that were on when I was a kid back in the sixties.\u00a0 One that has a little relevance was \u201cEighth Man.\u201d\u00a0 The story was completely unrelated.\u00a0 But just something about the pacing makes it seem akin in my mind.<\/p>\n

With respect to back story, the protagonist, Spike, has a history involved with a crime family.\u00a0 There is an evil brother figure lurking in his past.\u00a0 Down the road there is sure to be a reckoning for past sins.<\/p>\n

I still don\u2019t know what the relevance of the welsh corgi will be.\u00a0 Maybe he\u2019ll turn out to be super intelligent.\u00a0 Right now he\u2019s just sort of annoying.\u00a0 They\u2019ve also added a young girl who is also (of course) a world class hacker to the crew.\u00a0 I\u2019m guessing she\u2019s the River Tam of the crew.<\/p>\n

So, just to update, not sure where it\u2019s going, still liking it.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
