Back in January 2021 I wrote a review of the last season<\/a> of \u201cLast Man Standing\u201d that was beginning at that time and I said the show was unwatchable.\u00a0 And it was, but being the stubborn fool that I am, I decided to watch the final season as a lesson to myself.\u00a0 And as predicted it was unbearable.\u00a0 Sure, every once in a while, Tim Allen would inject a funny moment.\u00a0 But the overall unfunny, bland, bad writing, the trivial plot elements and emasculated male characters was beyond awful.<\/p>\n

But I stuck it out until the bitter end and I\u2019m glad I did.\u00a0 Because in the last half of the final \u201cdouble episode\u201d Tim Allen injected a plot element that was an open metaphor for the hijacking of his series by the network.\u00a0 The story element was that Mike\u2019s classic pick-up truck that he restored from the ground up was stolen.\u00a0 Now just in case the metaphor escaped anyone he even slips and says \u201cshow\u201d instead of \u201ctruck\u201d in one place.\u00a0 He stresses several times that he\u2019s had the \u201ctruck\u201d for ten years and of course \u201cLast Man Standing\u201d premiered in 2011.<\/p>\n

At one point the characters are talking about the fact that they can\u2019t find the truck because the tracking GPS is off the \u201cnetwork.\u201d\u00a0 One of them asks if it could be found on another network and someone else says he\u2019s heard of something like that and then Tim Allen says he doesn\u2019t think it will work.\u00a0 So, he\u2019s hitting out at both ABC and Fox with this statement.\u00a0 Later on, he asks \u201cWho steals somebody else\u2019s work like that?\u201d\u00a0 And there is a mock wake where the various actors talk about their feelings for the \u201ctruck.\u201d\u00a0 And finally in the Mike character\u2019s final VLOG episode Tim Allen says just like Ronald Reagan after his 1976 defeat in the Republican primary that he is bloodied but he\u2019ll get back up again.<\/p>\n

So maybe Tim Allen thinks he has another show in him.\u00a0 But what network will play it without neutering all the normal masculinity that Allen is known for?\u00a0 I don\u2019t see it happening.\u00a0 But at least it was something that he at least acknowledged that his brain child had been butchered by the powers that be.\u00a0 For that at least I salute him.<\/p>\n

If he ever does start a new series, I\u2019ll give it a look.\u00a0 Who knows?\u00a0 Miracles can happen.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
