{"id":15525,"date":"2021-08-09T10:09:54","date_gmt":"2021-08-09T14:09:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/orionscoldfire.com\/?p=15525"},"modified":"2021-08-09T10:09:54","modified_gmt":"2021-08-09T14:09:54","slug":"testing-the-minolta-200mm-f4-macro-and-sony-135mm-f1-8-a-mount-lenses-with-sony-la-ea5-adapter-on-sony-a7r-iv-camera-part-2-first-impressions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/orionscoldfire.com\/index.php\/2021\/08\/09\/testing-the-minolta-200mm-f4-macro-and-sony-135mm-f1-8-a-mount-lenses-with-sony-la-ea5-adapter-on-sony-a7r-iv-camera-part-2-first-impressions\/","title":{"rendered":"Testing the Minolta 200mm f\\4 Macro and Sony 135mm f\\1.8 A-Mount Lenses with Sony LA-EA5 Adapter on \u00a0Sony A7R IV Camera \u2013 Part 2 \u2013 First Impressions"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I took the camera out yesterday and played around with the 200mm macro.\u00a0 The A7R IVA has a very nice viewfinder but what I doscovered was that A-mount lenses on the LA-EA5 are not considered eligible lenses to use a feature called &#8220;AF in Focus Mag.&#8221;\u00a0 This feature allows you to autofocus while in a magnified view and it is a fantastic feature for doing macro work.\u00a0 Not having this feature with the 200mm macro is a sore disappointment.\u00a0 I didn&#8217;t anticipate this exclusion.\u00a0 Damn you Sony!\u00a0\u00a0But that being said, I am going to see if I can use animal eye AF to compensate for this.<\/p>\n<p>With respect to general performance the autofocus speed is acceptable.\u00a0 And in the short time I&#8217;ve tested it, the accuracy of the focus seems quite good.\u00a0 The A7R IVA camera is relatively close to my A7 III in action and function so there aren&#8217;t too many things to get used to.\u00a0 Today, if the weather holds out, I want to try a running dog focus tracking experiment.\u00a0 Harry (or Larold as he&#8217;s been nicknamed by my oldest grandson) is our younger pointer and he is incredibly fast.\u00a0 I&#8217;m going to try and track him as he sprints across the front lawn.\u00a0 I think I read that tracking doesn&#8217;t work with Animal EYE AF.\u00a0 This seems strane so I&#8217;ll try it both ways, animal and human eye AF.\u00a0 But even if the tracking is just on his head I think it will be an interesting experiment.<\/p>\n<p>I also want to try out eye AF on insects and hummingbirds.\u00a0 Hummingbirds will especially benefit from the tracking function.\u00a0 Losing focus on a hummingbird with a macro lens and its very long focus windup usually means a costly time delay in getting the set up again.\u00a0 And believe it or not I&#8217;ve never used tracking on hummingbirds before with my normal lenses and camera even though they are available.\u00a0 When you&#8217;re set in your ways you can miss a lot of useful opportunities.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve been reminded of that recently but this one really got me thinking.\u00a0 I have to go over the A7 III&#8217;s capabilities and see what else I&#8217;m missing out on.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/orionscoldfire.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/DSC00302-crop2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-15529\" src=\"https:\/\/orionscoldfire.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/DSC00302-crop2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"809\" height=\"529\" srcset=\"https:\/\/orionscoldfire.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/DSC00302-crop2.jpg 809w, https:\/\/orionscoldfire.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/DSC00302-crop2-300x196.jpg 300w, https:\/\/orionscoldfire.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/DSC00302-crop2-768x502.jpg 768w, https:\/\/orionscoldfire.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/DSC00302-crop2-781x512.jpg 781w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 809px) 100vw, 809px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Stay tuned.\u00a0 Much work to do.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I took the camera out yesterday and played around with the 200mm macro.\u00a0 The A7R IVA has a very nice viewfinder but what I doscovered<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_mi_skip_tracking":false,"_exactmetrics_sitenote_active":false,"_exactmetrics_sitenote_note":"","_exactmetrics_sitenote_category":0,"footnotes":""},"categories":[660,3,659],"tags":[23,1106,461,3224,2638],"class_list":["post-15525","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-camera-reviews","category-photography","category-photography-reviews","tag-macro","tag-minolta-200mm-f4-macro-lens","tag-photography","tag-sony-a7r-iv-camera","tag-sony-la-ea5-adapter"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v20.4 -
