{"id":16453,"date":"2021-11-01T14:08:50","date_gmt":"2021-11-01T18:08:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/orionscoldfire.com\/?p=16453"},"modified":"2021-11-01T14:08:50","modified_gmt":"2021-11-01T18:08:50","slug":"praying-mantises-childrens-books-and-pa-part-6-extra-innings","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/orionscoldfire.com\/index.php\/2021\/11\/01\/praying-mantises-childrens-books-and-pa-part-6-extra-innings\/","title":{"rendered":"Praying Mantises, Children\u2019s Books and Pa \u2013 Part 6 \u2013 Extra Innings"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Last night I read that this week we\u2019re expecting a hard frost.\u00a0 Well, it\u2019s November after all and nothing unusual about that.\u00a0 I mentioned to Camera Girl that I saw a dragonfly circling the yard the other day and now it\u2019ll be the end of his time with the frost.<\/p>\n<p>This morning Camera Girl was getting ready to go out on an errand and she said she\u2019d stop at the top of the driveway and put a letter in the mailbox.\u00a0 I said I need some air.\u00a0 Give it to me.\u00a0 As I was walking back toward the house she is walking toward me instead of driving out in her car and yelling something excitedly.\u00a0 She is an enthusiastic woman.\u00a0 What she was saying was that she saw a praying mantis sitting on top of a gallon water jug that I had left on the porch.\u00a0 She asked me to catch it and save it indoors.<\/p>\n<p>And sure enough, there it was.\u00a0 I scooped it up and put it in a convenient cage (the former home of one of my grandsons\u2019 hermit crabs).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/orionscoldfire.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/DSC07937-2-scaled.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-16452\" src=\"https:\/\/orionscoldfire.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/DSC07937-2-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"2560\" height=\"1707\" srcset=\"https:\/\/orionscoldfire.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/DSC07937-2-scaled.jpg 2560w, https:\/\/orionscoldfire.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/DSC07937-2-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/orionscoldfire.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/DSC07937-2-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/orionscoldfire.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/DSC07937-2-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/orionscoldfire.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/DSC07937-2-1536x1024.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/orionscoldfire.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/DSC07937-2-2048x1365.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 2560px) 100vw, 2560px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>And the new plan is to see how long he can live in an indoor environment.\u00a0 I\u2019ll try to offer him raw hamburger but if that fails we\u2019ll get some crickets at the pet store.\u00a0 Well, Princess Sack of Potatoes will get a chance to study a praying mantis more closely than I thought.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Last night I read that this week we\u2019re expecting a hard frost.\u00a0 Well, it\u2019s November after all and nothing unusual about that.\u00a0 I mentioned to<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_mi_skip_tracking":false,"_exactmetrics_sitenote_active":false,"_exactmetrics_sitenote_note":"","_exactmetrics_sitenote_category":0,"footnotes":""},"categories":[818,1263,3,2860],"tags":[83,2206,352,351,2093],"class_list":["post-16453","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-ocf","category-stuff-that-personally-interests-me-miscellaneous","category-photography","category-reclaiming-the-family","tag-family","tag-grandparents","tag-praying-mantis","tag-preying-mantis","tag-reclaiming-the-family"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v20.4 -
