Andre and Fran\u00e7ois Delambre are two brothers who own a technology company.\u00a0 Andre is a genius and he is working on a teleportation machine.\u00a0 He shows it to his wife Helene but she notes that the machine still has some problems.\u00a0 When Andre thinks the machine is perfected, he tries to teleport his cat but it disappears.\u00a0 Finally, after much work, he shows his wife that it can teleport a guinea pig successfully.\u00a0 Next, he plans to teleport himself.<\/p>\n

The next day Andre\u2019s little son catches a fly with a white head in the garden with his butterfly net.\u00a0 Helene makes him release it.\u00a0 When Andre does not appear for dinner Helene goes down to his laboratory.\u00a0 But the door is locked and Helene finds a typewritten letter from Andre saying his experiment has gone awry.\u00a0 A fly entered into the chamber and during the teleportation the fly got a human arm and head and Andre got the head and leg of a fly.\u00a0 He could still think like a human but he was finding his mind slipping away.\u00a0 He tells Helene to catch the fly so that he can go through the teleporter with it and hopefully return to normal.\u00a0 They catch the fly but it escapes again.\u00a0 Andre despairs and tells Helene (through writing on a blackboard) that he will destroy his dangerous machine and his notes.\u00a0 And he wants to die so he tells Helene to assist him by crushing his head and arm in the hydraulic press in his lab to destroy the evidence of his horrible accident.\u00a0 She agrees.\u00a0 After helping her husband to suicide she calls her brother-in-law Fran\u00e7ois (played by Vincent Price) who calls police inspector Charas.\u00a0 When they arrive, Helene tells them how she killed her husband.\u00a0 Later on, after much coaxing she tells them the story of the fly.\u00a0 But they assume she has gone mad.\u00a0 Inspector Charas gets a warrant for her arrest for murder.\u00a0 But just before she is taken away Andre\u2019s son tells Fran\u00e7ois that he has found the fly in a spider\u2019s web.\u00a0 Fran\u00e7ois calls Charas to the web and they see the fly with its human head and hand and hear it cry for help as the spider comes to devour it.\u00a0 Charas crushes the spider and its victim with a rock and is horrified by the reality of Helene\u2019s story.\u00a0 Charas and Fran\u00e7ois figure a story involving Andre\u2019s suicide to protect Helene.\u00a0 The movie ends with Fran\u00e7ois assuming the guardianship over Andre\u2019s wife and son.<\/p>\n

I saw this movie as a child on tv.\u00a0 And then, as now, the big scene in this movie is the spider web scene.\u00a0 The pathetic little voice coming out of the haggard face of the fly is horrifying as we see the enormously magnified head of the spider come closer and closer to the poor trapped fly.\u00a0 The other notable scene is where Helene pulls off the hood hiding Andre\u2019s head and we see his repulsive fly face.\u00a0 It\u2019s kind of hard to see it.\u00a0 It seemed out of focus but it was reasonably hideous and Helene screams to very good effect.\u00a0 The only decent acting was done by the police inspector.\u00a0 The rest of the cast acted their lines but no Academy Awards were earned.\u00a0 Vincent Price gave his usual over the top delivery.\u00a0 One surprise for me was that the actor who played Andre was David Hedison and I recognized him as the captain on the 1960\u2019s television series \u201cVoyage to the Bottom of the Sea\u201d about a US Navy submarine that was always bumping into giant squid and other under sea monsters.\u00a0 This movie is for connoisseurs of campy giant insect sci-fi films.\u00a0 It\u2019s not as good as \u201cThem!\u201d but it\u2019s still fun for fans of this type of movie.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
