I was just reading an article that was supposed to explain how unfunny \u201ccomedians\u201d were really very funny in the new meaning of funny, which means they are \u201csaying something important.\u201d\u00a0 Anyway, unsurprisingly, I wasn\u2019t convinced.\u00a0 Unfortunately, halfway into the article they started talking about some non-binary comic.\u00a0 And the writer started talking about \u201cThey said this\u201d and \u201cthe audience reacted to them.\u201d\u00a0 After a few seconds I realized that the writer was referring to some one guy wearing a dress as them.<\/p>\n
I don\u2019t call one person \u201cthem.\u201d\u00a0 I don\u2019t even do it when there is just the indeterminacy of where we don\u2019t know if it\u2019s a man or a woman.\u00a0 I say, him.\u00a0 If it turns out to be a woman, so be it.\u00a0 But I sure as hell am not going to use a plural pronoun for anything that only has one head on its shoulders.\u00a0 The world is screwed up enough already without us forgetting the difference between one and two.<\/p>\n
So here I am in the land of the pronouns.\u00a0 I understand in Canada you can go to jail for using the wrong pronouns.\u00a0 Isn\u2019t that wonderful!\u00a0 I guess I\u2019m waiting for the day when someone tells me his pronouns and expects me to go along with the joke.\u00a0 I\u2019ve already figured out what my action will be.\u00a0 I\u2019ll just walk away.\u00a0 And that\u2019ll be that.<\/p>\n
The way I look at it these are hostage situations.\u00a0 Your sanity is being held hostage by someone who is imposing on your sense of politeness.\u00a0 Frankly that\u2019s not someone I want to talk to.\u00a0 If someone asks me my pronouns I\u2019ll say, \u201cGuess.\u201d\u00a0 If they guess wrong then that\u2019s not someone I want to talk to anyway.<\/p>\n
Let\u2019s face it, this is all a big game of intimidation these people are playing.\u00a0 Knuckling under to humor them is a big mistake.\u00a0 I remember about twenty years ago a manager at a company I was consulting at told me that the company had gone to gender neutral English.\u00a0 I just ignored her.\u00a0 And four or five years later I was in a meeting when I said \u201che\u201d in the context of someone performing some work function.\u00a0 At the meeting there was this progressive dweeb that no one could stand and he shouts out, \u201cYou mean they!\u201d\u00a0 I replied, \u201cNo, the job description requires one person to do the task.\u00a0 \u201cThey\u201d implies more than one.\u00a0 That will confuse the operators.\u201d\u00a0 He continued to argue but the moderator forced us to move on.\u00a0 That was the only time that I had to discuss pronouns with the Left.<\/p>\n
Luckily, I\u2019ve moved into a place in this world where no one is policing my speech and I intend to keep it that way.\u00a0 When I write fiction, I also avoid gender neutral phrasing.\u00a0 I feel the King\u2019s English as it was taught to me by the good nuns at my grammar school is still good enough for these fallen times.<\/p>\n
And I look forward to the time when we come to terms with men who wear dresses and want to compete in women\u2019s sports.\u00a0 Reality is that thing that bites you on the butt when you pretend it doesn\u2019t exist.\u00a0 One of these days we will get up the courage to tell these people that their mental illnesses do not compel normal people to pretend things that aren\u2019t so.\u00a0 If a man wants to wear a wig and a dress and mutilate himself that doesn\u2019t compel me to call him ma\u2019am.\u00a0 In fact, I think it means I can decide to exclude him from my life altogether.\u00a0 That\u2019s called freedom of association or maybe freedom of disassociation.\u00a0 Both work.\u00a0 See, I\u2019m flexible.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
