{"id":1796,"date":"2017-11-18T23:32:28","date_gmt":"2017-11-19T04:32:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/orionscoldfire.com\/?p=1796"},"modified":"2017-11-20T09:18:53","modified_gmt":"2017-11-20T14:18:53","slug":"colter-wall-a-country-music-review","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/orionscoldfire.com\/index.php\/2017\/11\/18\/colter-wall-a-country-music-review\/","title":{"rendered":"Colter Wall \u2013 A Country Music Review"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I work with this guy Joe.\u00a0 He\u2019s an engineer and he\u2019s also a musician.\u00a0 He\u2019s a guitar player.\u00a0 And he\u2019s a country music guy, goes down to Nashville to hear the new singers in the small clubs down there.\u00a0 Last week he sent me a link to a YouTube video of a new country singer named Colter Wall.\u00a0 The song was called Kate McCannon.\u00a0 It\u2019s a murder ballad in the Appalachia style.\u00a0 I thought it was great.\u00a0 I looked into Colter Wall a little and found out he\u2019s from Alberta Canada.\u00a0 And despite this deep dark voice and a noticeable speech defect, he\u2019s only a young guy in his early twenties.\u00a0 Encouraged by that first song, I bought his self-titled album. I can say that I consider it head and shoulders above the bland commercial stuff being produced by the generic country groups currently on the scene.\u00a0 My two favorite songs are the ballads Kate McCannon and Bald Butte.\u00a0 But some of his lighter songs (e.g., Thirteen Silver Dollars, Fraulein) are also very well regarded by me.\u00a0 And there really aren\u2019t any bad songs on the album.\u00a0 Now you may say that sounds like slightly faint praise.\u00a0 It&#8217;s not.\u00a0 This is a very solid album.\u00a0 I have been playing it twice a day during my almost hour-long commute and have not even been tempted to switch to anything else in a week of playing.\u00a0 If you\u2019re a fan of old country music try to listen to a little of Wall\u2019s stuff.\u00a0 Of course music is that most subjective and individual of things so there\u2019s no way of being sure but I think there\u2019s a good chance you might be interested.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Since my readers don&#8217;t always stop by every day I figured I&#8217;d paste this poll on each post for a while to see what folks call themselves.\u00a0 This is the post the poll came from\u00a0\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/orionscoldfire.com\/index.php\/2017\/11\/08\/who-are-we\/\">Who Are We?<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8230; And that got me thinking.
