He currently serves on the German Economy Ministry\u2019s advisory council.\u00a0 He is Professor Emeritus of Economics and Public Finance at the University of Munich.<\/p>\n<p>What\u2019s refreshing is <a href=\"http:\/\/jordantimes.com\/opinion\/hans-werner-sinn\/germanys-energy-fiasco\">he writes using facts when he discusses the realities of energy production<\/a>.\u00a0 Germany has almost completed its program of shutting down both its coal powered and nuclear-powered electrical generation facilities.\u00a0 But since wind and solar account for 6.7% of the total energy requirements for the country it uses gas to heat most of its homes and businesses.<\/p>\n<p>And even though 29% of electrical generation comes from wind and solar, whenever these resources fail (which is often) the full load of the electrical grid is powered by gas powered plants.\u00a0 Therefore, Germany has built a large number of gas-powered plants to supposedly allow the transition to 100% renewables.\u00a0 So currently, Germany is hopelessly dependent on Russian gas for heat and power.\u00a0 And even if the whole German land mass was covered in solar cells and the sky was filled with wind turbines they would still need a large amount of gas to heat their homes and run their industry.<\/p>\n<p>Germany\u2019s posturing about boycotting Russian gas is just that.\u00a0 Posturing.\u00a0 If Russia were to cut off gas from Germany the country would grind to a halt in less than a week.\u00a0 And several other European nations are in a similar situation.\u00a0 This makes Biden\u2019s threats especially hollow.<\/p>\n<p>Reading Sinn\u2019s essay, I am struck that the Greens in Germany have slit their own throats.\u00a0 Germany had 17 nuclear power plants and an abundance of coal in the ground.\u00a0 They threw these things away to pay the Russians for gas that produces more of the \u201cdreaded\u201d green house gases than they used to produce.<\/p>\n<p>Good.\u00a0 Let them stew on their current situation and possibly discover wisdom.<\/p>\n<p>Personally, I hope the Russians do shut off gas to the West for a few weeks.\u00a0 I think it\u2019s valuable for people to get what they say they want.\u00a0 It has a clarifying effect.\u00a0 Sometimes it\u2019s even educational, depending on the intellect of the recipient.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The author is a German professor named Hans-Werner Sinn.\u00a0 His bio says he is a German economist who served as President of the Ifo Institute<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_mi_skip_tracking":false,"_exactmetrics_sitenote_active":false,"_exactmetrics_sitenote_note":"","_exactmetrics_sitenote_category":0,"footnotes":""},"categories":[5,712],"tags":[222,713,120],"class_list":["post-18420","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-current-events","category-fake-science","tag-climate-change","tag-fake-science","tag-nuclear-power"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v20.4 -
