One of the most iconic cinematic moments is Kirk Douglas in the movie Spartacus trying to rally his men before the final battle scene that he knows is stacked against his army.\u00a0 He says, \u201cFriends, I’d rather be here, a free man among brothers, facing a long march and a hard fight, than the richest citizen in Rome: fat with food he didn’t work for, and surrounded by slaves.\u201d<\/p>\n
Today I needed Spartacus to liberate me from the bondage that Camera Girl afflicted me with.\u00a0\u00a0 Out of the blue she declared that today I was to be an agricultural helot.\u00a0 She had me uprooting trees, clearing poison ivy and planting shrubs.\u00a0 As luck would have it today was warm and sunny and the May flies were biting.\u00a0 But I didn\u2019t quail.\u00a0 I took my shovel, rolled up my sleeves and sang a spiritual about Pharoah and the Israelites.<\/p>\n
There were no water breaks, no food breaks, not even a bathroom break.\u00a0 She truly is a monster.\u00a0 Finally, just as my back could take no more, the last stubborn root let go and the last tree was out.\u00a0 I finished carrying the offending trees and the other scrap to the mulch pile just as the sun sank below the horizon in Dunwich.\u00a0 Satisfied that the work was complete I was allowed to have my dinner.\u00a0 But because I wasn\u2019t sufficiently grateful for the gruel, I was told that tomorrow I would have to make bricks without straw.\u00a0 How clich\u00e9.<\/p>\n
So anyway, I was busy today with yard work.\u00a0 I read through the news and it\u2019s interesting just how uniformly bleak are the projections for the Democrats\u2019 chances in the mid-terms.\u00a0 Even CNN and MSNBC are declaring the abysmal approval ratings of Dementia Joe.\u00a0 Of course, they throw in the obligatory qualifier that none of this is Joe\u2019s fault but they have finally landed on the truth that none of the excuses that Biden and Psaki have been claiming seem to be working.<\/p>\n
Even though I\u2019m one of the victims of Dopey Joe\u2019s sabotage of the American economy I have the consolation of knowing that it will lose the Democrats control of the legislative branch of the federal government in November.\u00a0 And even though I know that\u2019s a limited victory it\u2019s starting to seem like that won\u2019t be the only consequence.\u00a0 I can\u2019t point to anything specific but I think Americans as a whole have sort of reached the limit of what they\u2019ll put up with from the Democrats and now are looking to get rid of them.\u00a0 Now, how that\u2019s going to happen I don\u2019t know but hopefully there will be some smart guys out there to focus the outrage of the common people and use it to build some kind of movement.<\/p>\n
I think it has to start with the governors of the Red States.\u00a0 They have the power and independence from the feds to try and organize a coherent plan to prepare for 2024.\u00a0 To my mind the most important actions would be around preventing voter fraud.\u00a0 That would have a profound effect on morale.\u00a0 And I\u2019ve read that DeSantis has already taken steps in Florida to allow rapid action if voter fraud is suspected.<\/p>\n
Well, all this unbridled enthusiasm is dizzying.\u00a0 I have to keep reminding my self that Mitch McConnell and Kevin McCarthy are the top Congressional Republicans.\u00a0 That calms me down pretty quickly.\u00a0 But maybe they won\u2019t be the leaders for long.\u00a0 And I\u2019m not expecting them to be replaced by James Madison and Thomas Jefferson.\u00a0 I have no illusions.\u00a0 But I\u2019m sure there are better people out there.\u00a0 I mean, almost anyone would be better.\u00a0 Even Beavis and Butthead would do.\u00a0 I just can\u2019t accept that we will be held captive by these establishment ciphers.\u00a0 Trump showed that if you speak the truth people will follow you.\u00a0 What\u2019s so hard for others to do the same?<\/p>\n
So, this is my Spartacus Speech.\u00a0 Fire the drones, the ciphers, the hacks, the grifters.\u00a0 That\u2019s what the primary season should be about this year.\u00a0 And every year.\u00a0 Fire the phonies and give someone else a try.\u00a0 If they fail fire them too.\u00a0 Americans deserve better leaders.\u00a0 We need to stop being afraid of \u201closing the majority.\u201d\u00a0 A majority with the McConnells and the McCarthys is useless anyway.\u00a0 Get rid of the fakes.\u00a0 We\u2019ll never get anywhere when somehow Mitt Romney is on \u201cour side.\u201d<\/p>\n
