\u200b“The Supreme Court struck down New York\u2019s century-old law restricting the carrying of concealed firearms Thursday<\/a>, its first major Second Amendment decision in more than a decade and a ruling that could lead to more weapons on the streets, as well as subways, churches, bars, airports and just about anywhere people gather.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u200bThe New York state law, on the books since 1913, requires that a person who wants a license to carry a handgun in public show \u201cproper cause\u201d that the weapon is \u200bspecifically needed for self-defense rather than a desire to protect themselves or their property.”<\/strong><\/p>\n

This is huge.\u00a0 The blue states will fight this tooth and claw.\u00a0 They’ll keep writing laws that openly disregard this ruling and the Supreme Court will have to keep knocking them down.\u00a0 This in not close to over but it’s an amazing declaration of war.<\/p>\n

“Writing for a 6-3 court, Justice Clarence Thomas wrote that \u201cwhen the Second Amendment\u2019s plain text covers an individual\u2019s conduct, the Constitution presumptively protects that conduct.<\/strong><\/p>\n

To justify its regulation, the government may not simply posit that the regulation promotes an important interest,\u201d Thomas added. \u201cRather, the government must demonstrate that the regulation is consistent with this Nation\u2019s historical tradition of firearm regulation.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The ruling could also affect similar \u201cmay issue\u201d laws in New Jersey, California, Maryland, Hawaii and Massachusetts.\u200b\u200b”<\/strong><\/p>\n
