I’ve been trying to speed up my writing but there’s always something distracting me.\u00a0 but I thought it would be fun to post a little part of a scene.<\/p>\n
“After the meeting, Director Sparks called Chastain and told him to meet him at Sparks\u2019 temporary office in the Pentagon.\u00a0 When Chastain arrived Sparks briefed him.\u00a0 \u201cWe can\u2019t play around anymore.\u00a0 I\u2019ve been given unlimited resources to catch this man.\u00a0 I want you to act as the lead.\u00a0 There will be three separate teams.\u00a0 One will investigate the physical evidence at the Hoover building site to figure out what the hell we\u2019re up against.\u00a0 The second team will pursue the cyber trail of whoever released the video.\u00a0 That leak must be plugged.\u00a0 But most important, the third team will find Boghadair.\u00a0 You will have first priority on all the surveillance infrastructure, public and private.\u00a0 You can write a blank check for whatever you need but I want that man in custody within the week.\u00a0 If not, your head is on the block.\u00a0 And that\u2019s not a joke.\u00a0 If Boghadair isn\u2019t in shackles in a week from today you\u2019re done.\u201d\u00a0 Chastain bit back some bitter words and said, \u201cOkay, I\u2019ll need a command center with a room where I can crash; bed, shower, kitchen.\u00a0 Tell me the cost center numbers I can charge to and give me the contact information for my three team leads.\u00a0 I\u2019ll find Boghadair for you or you can have my job.\u00a0 But I wonder what else I\u2019ll find.\u00a0 Apparently, this thing is a lot bigger than one man.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n Sparks handed him a briefcase.\u00a0 \u201cAll the documents are on a drive.\u00a0 There\u2019s a folder with all the contact information and the codes you need to access the databases and the systems you\u2019ll need.\u00a0 I also want a list of government officials that Boghadair might target and conjecture on the order of attack.\u00a0 I want that list by tomorrow morning.\u201d\u00a0 Chastain nodded his head.\u00a0 Sparks growled, \u201cThat\u2019s all.\u201d\u00a0 And Chastain left the office and walked out of the building.\u00a0 As he was leaving the building he thought, \u201cYou\u2019re at the top of that list you fool.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n As Director Sparks left his temporary office that night that very idea occurred to him.\u00a0 He was headed home to a gated community in one of the most expensive suburbs of Washington.\u00a0 And he was scared.\u00a0 He decided to travel back to his home by a different route.\u00a0 Taking this circuitous route and seeing no cars following him he slowly calmed down and by the time he was within a mile of his home he felt foolish about his fears.\u00a0 When he was caught at a red light that usually never changed on him he was a little confused.\u00a0 Then he noticed that the video display on his dashboard shifted from the typical menu view to a video feed.\u00a0 He could see a man in the driver\u2019s seat of a car.\u00a0 After a second or two he realized he was looking at an image of himself.\u00a0 He was for a second stunned and by the time he comprehended his peril the bullet was already entering the side of his head.\u00a0 When his foot slipped off the brake his car rolled into the intersection and was struck by traffic going through the intersection.\u00a0 The local police were on the scene rather quickly and alerted the FBI based on the car\u2019s license plate number.\u00a0 Late that night the report reached George Chastain and his first thought was, \u201cI guess I should let the Attorney General know he\u2019s next on the list.\u201d”<\/strong><\/p>\n Gee, it’s fun killing bad guys.\u00a0 It just feels right.\u00a0 Well, on to the Attorney General.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" I’ve been trying to speed up my writing but there’s always something distracting me.\u00a0 but I thought it would be fun to post a little<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_mi_skip_tracking":false,"_exactmetrics_sitenote_active":false,"_exactmetrics_sitenote_note":"","_exactmetrics_sitenote_category":0,"footnotes":""},"categories":[241,5,3366,2510,1289,818,1263,237,4,242],"tags":[76,1290,265,2744],"class_list":["post-22482","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-book-reviews","category-current-events","category-life-in-dunwich","category-literature","category-fiction-by-me","category-ocf","category-stuff-that-personally-interests-me-miscellaneous","category-reviews","category-sff","category-sff-book-reviews","tag-fiction-writing","tag-my-fiction","tag-science-fiction","tag-things-that-really-interest-me"],"yoast_head":"\n
