(I should just have a Kipling Corner but, anyway, here is a poem he wrote for the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Victoria.\u00a0 And you could tell that he knew that sitting at the summit of the British Empire\u2019s power the coming fall would be calamitous.\u00a0 Looking at where things are now it is just as timely today as it was in 1897).<\/strong><\/p>\n

God of our fathers, known of old,<\/p>\n

Lord of our far-flung battle-line,<\/p>\n

Beneath whose awful Hand we hold<\/p>\n

Dominion over palm and pine\u2014<\/p>\n

Lord God of Hosts, be with us yet,<\/p>\n

Lest we forget\u2014lest we forget!<\/p>\n

The tumult and the shouting dies;<\/p>\n

The Captains and the Kings depart:<\/p>\n
