Spring has arrived with its endless supply of muck and slop and just in time with it the town has gone topsy turvy.\u00a0 Revolution has broken out.\u00a0 The Old Guard and the Young Turks are having a set to and I\u2019m caught in the middle.\u00a0 I\u2019ll be working more and making a little extra money but being of an extremely lazy nature I\u2019d prefer the opposite.\u00a0 But there are some interesting aspects to this turn of events.\u00a0 New England town democracy in action is a bizarre force to observe.\u00a0 The fact that the Old Guard is putting up a fight is almost unheard of in this neck of the woods.\u00a0 I\u2019ll have a ringside seat for the proceedings so it may make an interesting story when all is said and done but I expect that much angst and hard feelings will spill over into everyday life.<\/p>\n
But at the same time, it will also cut into my blogging time, in fact it already has.\u00a0 And on top of that I\u2019ve mended my ways and now have begun applying myself to my fiction writing.\u00a0 I cranked out four thousand words over the last three days and that has also cut into my posting.\u00a0 But that\u2019s all to the good.\u00a0 The story is expanding and becoming more interesting.\u00a0 I\u2019ve definitely decided to nuke my hero\u2019s base at some point.\u00a0 I mean what\u2019s a science fiction story without an atom bomb somewhere?\u00a0 No one calls them atomic bombs anymore.\u00a0 It\u2019s nuke this and nuke that.\u00a0 Thermo-nuclear.\u00a0 Who came up with that name?\u00a0 Thermo- implies heat.\u00a0 Are there any cold nuclear explosions?\u00a0 I guess if they ever figure out an actual cold fusion process, we could talk about it but anyway I think I\u2019m going to nuke my base.<\/p>\n
I\u2019ve had to write some personal scenes into the book.\u00a0 The hero gets to see his family for the first time in a long while and there are grandkids and his son\u2019s widow and that was tricky.\u00a0 I think I did alright which surprised me.\u00a0 I\u2019m not a very touchy feely kinda guy but I could see that leaving out his relationship with his family felt fake.\u00a0 So, there you go, human interest.\u00a0 What\u2019s next, an Oprah interview for our hero?\u00a0 I\u2019ve even added an AI character.\u00a0 That\u2019s actually kind of fun.\u00a0 It\u2019s funny once you get going these things kind of write themselves in.\u00a0 Anyway, the story is percolating along.<\/p>\n
But all this stuff really just enhances the blogging.\u00a0 You can\u2019t just write about national stories all the time.\u00a0 It\u2019s just too much of the same thing.\u00a0 We\u2019ve got to be in the story too, or what\u2019s the point?\u00a0 I could just listen to Tucker Carlson or some other talking head.\u00a0 That\u2019s why I like when some of the guest contributors have something to add.\u00a0 I like to get some other angles on things and I\u2019m sure that\u2019s the same with everybody else.<\/p>\n
