From the farthest reaches of the known universe, a hardy crew of hard-bitten desperados descended upon a tavern to relive old glories and trade lies about their exploits.\u00a0 Well anyway I had to travel for an hour or so.\u00a0 So, I sojourned out beyond Dunwich to consult, confer and otherwise hobnob with my fellow wizards.\u00a0 Old times were remembered.\u00a0 Fallen comrades and enemies were recalled and mockery for the masters of the universe that we had suffered under flowed freely.\u00a0 So many funny stories.<\/p>\n
And we compared notes on the worst of the changes that had slowly turned our former corporate home from a great place to work to a bureaucratic hellhole.\u00a0 And all agreed that the problem could be described with three letters \u2026 DEI.\u00a0 The most recent outrages were some of the worst.\u00a0 DEI has become embedded in the goals of every manager.\u00a0 But how can you advance DEI when there\u2019s no budget to hire new people.\u00a0 Surprise, surprise.\u00a0 You have to eliminate white men.\u00a0 And the way to do that in the zero-sum game of corporate competition is to give them bad reviews.\u00a0 No matter how valuable they may be or how carefully they work to accomplish their goals it is absolutely critical to advance minorities and women.\u00a0 So, the white men must be demoted.\u00a0 And if you\u2019re a normal man and that\u2019s what you\u2019re told to do it\u2019s going to stick in your craw.\u00a0 Eventually if you can, you walk away.<\/p>\n
And that\u2019s not an easy thing.\u00a0 These jobs pay very, very well.\u00a0 The perks include stock options, five figure bonuses and retirement plans that any peon would give his right arm to have.\u00a0 But at a certain point stomaching the things you have to say and do can become too much.<\/p>\n
Opinions were espoused about the 2024 race.\u00a0 I was sort of a downer with my, \u201cWe can\u2019t vote ourselves out of this\u201d schtick.\u00a0 But I was happy to listen to everybody\u2019s opinion on the Trump versus DeSantis question.\u00a0 And everyone laughed at Biden\u2019s last few fails like tripping over the sandbag and wandering off stage whenever his handlers lost track of him.\u00a0 And gallons of beer (no Transheuser Busch ordered at that table) were imbibed and mass quantities of meat were wolfed down.<\/p>\n
So, we commiserated and compared notes on families and summer plans and vowed to drag the wives into a larger gathering involving grilled meat of a ribeye variety that we have agreed is optimal.\u00a0 Whether all can attend this upcoming event is of course problematic.\u00a0 Wives are troublesome, fretful creatures who rarely acquiesce in the expansive plans that men imagine.\u00a0 Their problem is that they lack the big broad flexible outlook on life.\u00a0 They want to nail down time and place and attendees and food budgets and other troublesome details that just complicate their husbands\u2019 days.\u00a0 Why can\u2019t a woman be more like a man?\u00a0 Wait, scratch that.\u00a0 Maybe I\u2019m really glad that they\u2019re completely different from men.\u00a0 Look at all the trouble Matt Walsh has had just getting \u201cexperts\u201d to define \u201cWhatIsAWoman?\u201d\u00a0 Let them be as different as they want as long as they stay just as they are.<\/p>\n
So, a very good day.\u00a0 Reconnecting with the guys is critical.\u00a0 Camaraderie is of the essence of a normal male life.\u00a0 We have to spend so much time providing for our families and interacting with the wife and kids that it\u2019s essential now and then to escape from those twittering voices and flighty emotions and hang out with coarse, vulgar, boorish, insensitive, cruel, funny, inventive, enthusiastic and masculine peers.<\/p>\n
Well, I\u2019m home now.\u00a0 The fun is over.\u00a0 Back to chores and routine.\u00a0 No more pastrami Reubens.\u00a0 Just healthy food and diet.\u00a0\u00a0 Oh well, it was nice while it lasted.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
