{"id":24359,"date":"2023-06-20T20:14:43","date_gmt":"2023-06-21T00:14:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/orionscoldfire.com\/?p=24359"},"modified":"2023-06-20T20:16:10","modified_gmt":"2023-06-21T00:16:10","slug":"nefarious-2023-a-movie-review","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/orionscoldfire.com\/index.php\/2023\/06\/20\/nefarious-2023-a-movie-review\/","title":{"rendered":"Nefarious (2023) \u2013 A Movie Review"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"NEFARIOUS Official Trailer (2023) Horror Movie HD\" width=\"783\" height=\"440\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/txwrLGAL7Sg?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s another film that I won\u2019t have the spoiler alert attached because I won\u2019t spoil any surprises.\u00a0 My review will have more to do with the nature and the quality of the film than the plot synopsis.<\/p>\n<p>The basic plot is that a psychiatrist, Dr. James Martin (played by Jordan Belfi) goes to a prison to interview a death row prisoner, Edward Wayne Brady (played by Sean Patrick Flanery) to determine if he\u2019s sane enough to electrocute.\u00a0 But when Martin enters the interrogation room, he discovers that the prisoner claims to be a demon from Hell possessing Brady\u2019s body.\u00a0 For the sake of convenience, he tells Martin to call him Nefarious.<\/p>\n<p>And the great majority of the film is the interaction between Martin and Nefarious.\u00a0 And that brings us to the question of what type of movie is this?\u00a0 Is it a religious film?\u00a0 Is it a horror movie?\u00a0 Is it a suspense film.\u00a0 I guess it\u2019s little bit of each.\u00a0 I\u2019m not giving anything away by saying it\u2019s not a gorefest.\u00a0 The most visually disturbing scene is a prison electrocution.\u00a0 But that\u2019s hardly in the league of things like Saw.\u00a0 I guess you call it a horror film in the same way that Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde was a horror movie. \u00a0I would say that a psychological drama might more closely describe the atmosphere of the film.<\/p>\n<p>And the film is definitely an attack on the lack of respect for human life that our civilization exhibits with respect to its attitude toward abortion and euthanasia.\u00a0 And it was produced by a Christian production company, \u201cBelieve Entertainment.\u201d\u00a0 So, from these perspectives this is a religious film.<\/p>\n<p>But whatever else it is, it\u2019s also a well made and compelling film.\u00a0 The characterizations by the two lead actors are highly entertaining.\u00a0 Flanery\u2019s Nefarious is mesmerizing.\u00a0 He has all the best lines and he plays the part over the top and to the hilt.<\/p>\n<p>Belfi does a very good job of portraying a somewhat smug member of the intelligentsia, an avowed atheist who comes up against a persona who tears away many of his comfortable assumptions about himself and his way of life.\u00a0 And to the film\u2019s credit it\u2019s not a simplistic strawman exercise.\u00a0 It\u2019s done with skill and very effectively.<\/p>\n<p>Now none of this is to say that Nefarious is a perfect film.\u00a0 There are a couple of scenes that were less successful.\u00a0 But overall, it was compelling and kept my interest throughout. \u00a0And now here is my recommendation.\u00a0 I recommend this movie but with a caveat.\u00a0 I paid twenty bucks to see this movie!\u00a0 Camera Girl thinks I\u2019m crazy and I kind of have to agree.\u00a0 That\u2019s an awful lot of money.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Here\u2019s another film that I won\u2019t have the spoiler alert attached because I won\u2019t spoil any surprises.\u00a0 My review will have more to do with<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_mi_skip_tracking":false,"_exactmetrics_sitenote_active":false,"_exactmetrics_sitenote_note":"","_exactmetrics_sitenote_category":0,"footnotes":""},"categories":[239,237],"tags":[4148,354,4147,43,86,38,1355,4146],"class_list":["post-24359","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-movie-reviews","category-reviews","tag-believe-entertainment","tag-horror","tag-jordan-belfi","tag-movie-review","tag-religion","tag-review","tag-reviews","tag-sean-patrick-flanery"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v20.4 -
