This holiday \u201cweekend\u201d has been chaotic and fragmented by forces personal and institutional.\u00a0 Saturday and Sunday were large family gatherings during which no usable amount of website work was possible.\u00a0 And that is as it should be.\u00a0 But just to make sure I was completely ineffective I\u2019ve been wasting my time trying to figure out why the new Google Analytics (GA4) data was so awful.\u00a0 I could see the \u201cRealtime\u201d pageviews but the reports that approximate the old ones were blank.\u00a0 Well after hours and hours of horsing around on-line trying to tweak them into compliance with my needs, I find out the real problem is they\u2019re time delayed.\u00a0 The results can be hidden for up to eight hours.\u00a0 How useless is that?\u00a0 Oh well. \u00a0Now I have a completely new reason for hating Google.\u00a0 They\u2019re probably trying to save money.\u00a0 The cheap bastards!<\/p>\n

Well, France is burning.\u00a0 This must be their Summer of George moment.\u00a0 It sounds like their police haven\u2019t taken a knee yet.\u00a0 Who knows?\u00a0 Maybe they\u2019ll bite the bullet and fight the war they\u2019ve created for themselves within their own country.\u00a0 Or maybe not.\u00a0 It\u2019s an interesting moment.\u00a0 Macron is a useless weasel.\u00a0 In point of fact, he probably gives useless weasels a bad name and they\u2019d like to disown him in order to get out from under the cloud of revulsion that he generates around him.\u00a0 I wonder if this will be the straw that breaks the camel\u2019s back and throws France into the arms of the Right Wing.\u00a0 After all, it\u2019s a long summer left and things may get much, much uglier before it\u2019s over.<\/p>\n

It looks like Elon Musk is serious about turning Twitter into a legitimate town square.\u00a0 Crippling the Big Brother bots that scrape the site for instances of bad think is very encouraging.\u00a0 If instead of 900,000,000 tweets being scraped a day it\u2019s 8,000 well, that\u2019s a reduction of about 99.999%.\u00a0 Not bad!\u00a0 Seriously, he\u2019s got a tiger by the tail and they\u2019ll surely make his life hell but at least he\u2019s putting up a fight.\u00a0 For the first time Twitter is somewhat fun.\u00a0 I even see some of the \u201cbad thinkers\u201d rattling around in there.\u00a0 It\u2019s down-right egalitarian.<\/p>\n

On the local front, Dunwich has been inundated with a Noachian flood that is even frightening the fish in the local swamp.\u00a0 I was trying to imagine how I would get pairs of the various species, male and female into the trunk of my car but I kept worrying about the poor transgender salamanders that might be discriminated against in the mini-port-i-sans that I would create out of household items found in Camera Girl\u2019s recycle bin.\u00a0 I was thinking that the dairy creamer bottle would be best.\u00a0 I was trying to figure out what would be the internationally recognizable symbols for male salamanders and female salamanders to adorn the bathrooms.\u00a0 Possibly accentuated eyelashes for the girls?\u00a0 It\u2019s so complicated.\u00a0 But regardless we are very waterlogged at this point.\u00a0 The vegetable garden hasn\u2019t given up the ghost yet but the zucchini does appear slightly bilious.<\/p>\n

Recently Camera Girl has placed a sign in the kitchen that declares, \u201cIT IS WHAT IT IS.\u201d\u00a0 Apparently one of her sisters believes that this is one of her favorite expressions.\u00a0 Now, for years Camera Girl has claimed that she invented \u201cJUST DO IT\u201d well before Nike trademarked that saying.\u00a0 Well, I\u2019m a little dubious of her claims and those of her nuclear family.\u00a0 But looking at that sign every time I range into the kitchen I am becoming more of a fan.\u00a0 I am surrounded by faits accomplis everywhere I look.\u00a0 Let\u2019s face it, almost every enterprise and government jurisdiction is a racket or a grift.\u00a0 Being outraged is a waste of time and just keeping track of them is a full-time job.\u00a0 Saying, \u201cit is what it is,\u201d is another way of resetting the situation and moving onto something more profitable.<\/p>\n

So, most of the time I don\u2019t bother looking for the articles decrying some outrage. \u00a0Instead, I look for one pointing to something practical like joining a boycott or finding an alternative platform for something or supporting someone who leans our way.\u00a0 But I most enjoy punishing my enemies.\u00a0 I\u2019ll do far more to see Mitt Romney primaried than supporting some moderate who \u201cwill get the independent vote.\u201d\u00a0 But coming to terms with how bad things really are is liberating and it\u2019s healthy.\u00a0 Lately I feel a lot less down.\u00a0 So, \u201cit is what it is.\u201d<\/p>\n

I\u2019ve got some work on both Tuesday and Thursday and an out of state trip on Saturday so there will continue to be a slightly lower throughput.\u00a0 But next week is the new regime.\u00a0 And I promise to do better.\u00a0 So, hang in there.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
