We all have to get used to the new reality.\u00a0 It\u2019s a different world we now live in and some things are no longer news and other things are still useful.\u00a0 And priorities change.\u00a0 In 2015 and 2016 Donald Trump opened up a new way of looking at the world and that change filled up the internet and mesmerized the Right for eight years.\u00a0 Well, now that outlook has spread to everybody it can reach.\u00a0 And that news isn\u2019t news anymore.\u00a0 And the Left has asserted itself and plugged up the holes in its walls and stopped the peasants from crashing the castle gates.\u00a0 The party\u2019s over.\u00a0 It\u2019s time to adjust.<\/p>\n
For me the adjustment is to dividing up my time differently.\u00a0 A daily blog post can\u2019t be only about the war between the Left and the Right.\u00a0 That will be too repetitive.\u00a0 Even taking events from the news and reacting or critiquing them cannot be a daily occurrence.\u00a0 There\u2019s just too much overlap from story to story.\u00a0 Too much, Joe Biden, too much Deep State, too much woke capitalism, too much fake news.\u00a0 Same old, same old.<\/p>\n
Now I\u2019m not going to abandon these things.\u00a0 I\u2019m just going to cut back on the frequency and pick my opportunities judiciously.\u00a0 I\u2019ll look for an occasion when the example has some special emphasis.\u00a0 As an example, the recent Supreme Court ruling on affirmative action would be an occurrence that merits a discussion.\u00a0 It\u2019s more than the usual background noise, it\u2019s a significant story.\u00a0 But it\u2019s exceptional and it will be treated as an exception.<\/p>\n
So then, what will I fill up my time with?\u00a0 Well, two buckets.<\/p>\n
One will be public interest.\u00a0 And that can be anything that might interest people who read this site.\u00a0 For instance, I like science fiction and fantasy.\u00a0 Reviewing movies and books is something I like to do.\u00a0 And not just sf&f.\u00a0 I like all kinds of books and movies and I like to share things I think are good.\u00a0 And I\u2019ll share businesses that I find that are run by folks on our side of the culture war.\u00a0 I\u2019m hoping that will become a bigger part of the world we live in.\u00a0 Hopefully one day there\u2019ll be an ad on this site for a every product that I believe in and can recommend.\u00a0 Who knows?\u00a0 Maybe it\u2019ll be for a right-wing beer company that Dylan Mulvaney won\u2019t ever be asked to \u201cpartner with.\u201d<\/p>\n
And the other bucket is writing my book.\u00a0 Currently I\u2019ve got slightly more than 49,000 words finished.\u00a0 But last year I thought I\u2019d be completely finished by this July.\u00a0 Obviously, I need to get religion.\u00a0 And by that, I mean make fiction writing the first priority of my available time.\u00a0 Now for the last few weeks I\u2019ve been pulled in multiple directions and I can forgive myself for getting behind on everything; posts, pictures, quotes and fiction writing.<\/p>\n
But I have to start somewhere and so I\u2019ve been prioritizing the fiction writing this week.\u00a0 And I\u2019ll continue with that plan going forward.\u00a0 So, while I\u2019m adjusting there may be some dry spells on the site.\u00a0 Nothing drastic just some less busy periods.\u00a0 But once I get the hang of this new routine, I expect things will return to about the same output in terms of posts and other content.\u00a0 The only difference will be that repetitive rants should be way, way down.<\/p>\n
But that won\u2019t change the fact that Joe Biden sucks.<\/p>\n
