Today\u2019s screed will be at least slightly incoherent.\u00a0 Had a long day and so now it\u2019s late in the evening and my brain cells are firing haphazardly like a failing neon sign.\u00a0 I think I\u2019ll just work with the vague impression that reading the editorial page gives me.\u00a0 I\u2019ll be like the Monet of Right-Wing Vitriol.\u00a0 I like the word vitriol.\u00a0 Sulfuric acid was called oil of vitriol in the olden days and it is a powerful substance for dissolving supposedly strong metals like iron.\u00a0 And I always liked copper sulfate or blue vitriol because it\u2019s a deep blue crystalline material.\u00a0 Basically, I\u2019m a fan of vitriol in all its manifestations.\u00a0 So, let\u2019s see what\u2019s out there.<\/p>\n
The striking thing about the headlines lately is that wisps of the truth are beginning to appear all over the place.\u00a0 Not in just right-wing blogs but in mainline \u201cconservative websites and even in cable news on Fox and CNN and, heaven help us, MSNBC.\u00a0 Taboo things are leaking out.\u00a0 And because they\u2019ve leaked into the world, they\u2019re causing panic.\u00a0 When Hunter Biden\u2019s legal troubles are talked about on PBS or MSNBC, we get a whole song and dance about how the evil House Republicans are trying to tie Joe Biden to Hunter\u2019s legal problems.\u00a0 I think the approved boilerplate that has to be prefaced to any discussion of Hunter is that the House allegations \u201chaven\u2019t got a single shred of evidence linking Joe Biden to anything illegal.\u201d\u00a0 I think I heard the same exact wording on several different platforms.<\/p>\n
Another impression I got was that the \u201cinflation is falling and the economy is booming\u201d narrative has finally slammed into reality so hard that even some of the cheerleaders are discussing damage control.\u00a0 One lefty pundit was saying that maybe, just maybe, the slightly higher cost of living might be impacting some undetermined proportion of the population in a negative way.\u00a0 Now that was a brave thing to admit while riding on the Biden Express.\u00a0 Of course, it was a data point that was being used to suggest ever so delicately that maybe Joe should step aside for some \u201cyounger.\u201d<\/p>\n
I take the rumblings that show up in the lefty press much more seriously than the stuff on the right.\u00a0 Right-wing happy talk is background noise.\u00a0 But when the Left starts foaming at the mouth, or even better when they start to sweat, I get interested.\u00a0 And they seem to be sweating profusely.\u00a0 Now it\u2019s a long, long way to November.\u00a0 And the sheer breadth of dirty tricks and lawfare that the Deep State has up its sleeves is impressive.\u00a0 Hauling Donald Trump off to prison is the least shocking thing they might do in the next eleven months.\u00a0 But I get the distinct impression that things are very \u201cungood\u201d in lefty world.\u00a0 Maybe a big part of it is Ukraine.\u00a0 Even the Washington Post has publicly stated that the Ukrainians aren\u2019t going to beat the Russians.\u00a0 Now it looks like the Republicans have realized that just saying no to another sixty billion dollars in aid is the smart way to go.<\/p>\n
Now, nobody ever got rich betting that the Stupid Party would stop acting stupid.\u00a0 So sure, they can screw it up.\u00a0 But it looks like things are not going well for Team Biden in every facet of their agenda.\u00a0 And as an impressionist that makes my canvass resemble one of those crazy Van Gough sunflower paintings or maybe his starry night.\u00a0 It\u2019s an image that makes me smile.\u00a0 Sure, it\u2019s just an impression.\u00a0 And tomorrow reality will be back in focus.\u00a0 But right now, in the blur of my fuzzy brain it looks pretty good.<\/p>\n
