At this time of the rolling year, it is more than usually desirable that we should make some slight provision for finding some positive straws to grasp at in order to stave off despair.\u00a0 And probably the likeliest item is just how awful the polls are for Biden.\u00a0 Outside of defense corporation C-suites you\u2019d be hard pressed to find an encouraging word.\u00a0 He has mucked up almost everything he has touched.\u00a0 The man is as popular as smallpox.\u00a0 I guess that\u2019s a negative positive straw.<\/p>\n
I asked a couple of friends who would be on the November ballot and one said that Biden would be pulled right before the convention and replaced with Gavin Newsom.\u00a0 And the other told me that Donald Trump would be kept off the ballot by judges.\u00a0 And this fellow seemed relieved because he assumed that another Republican would easily beat Biden.\u00a0 I told him I disagreed.\u00a0 I said I thought that if Trump is forced off the ballot a large enough part of the Republican voters would stay home on election day to give Biden the win.\u00a0 I think this was a new thought for him.\u00a0 I\u2019m not sure I convinced him but I think I gave him something to consider.<\/p>\n
So many people are angry and confused by the endless failures that have become the hallmark of our government.\u00a0 And almost as bad is the absurd lies that emerge to paint an unrecognizable version of reality.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are living through the strongest economy in history.\u00a0 Wealth and prosperity abound.\u00a0 Life here is full of choices and freedom that provide everyone with fulfillment and joy.\u00a0 Big Brother loves you.\u00a0 Joe Biden is vigorous and smart.\u00a0 Ukraine is winning the war.\u00a0 We\u2019ve always been at war with East Asia.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n They\u2019re all such obvious lies that it seems reasonable that most of the country will see through them and punish the ones responsible for the lies and for the underlying problems.\u00a0 So, I grasp at the straw that Biden is so hated that he will be voted out in November.\u00a0 But it\u2019s just a wish.\u00a0 It\u2019s just a hope.\u00a0 It\u2019s not the solution to an equation.<\/p>\n But isn\u2019t life mostly a grasping at straws?\u00a0 We spend our time stumbling around in the dark trying to outguess the stock market or the labor market.\u00a0 We place our bets on a career or an investment strategy or a politician.\u00a0 Sometimes we win.\u00a0 If we win enough times, we begin to think winning is the norm.\u00a0 That was what it was like in the eighties and nineties in America.\u00a0 It felt like winning was how the world worked.\u00a0 But then came the turn of the millennium and things changed.<\/p>\n The people in charge had plans of their own for us and it didn\u2019t involve winning.\u00a0 More like skinning.\u00a0 We were way too happy and prosperous.\u00a0 It was time to let the rest of the world win.\u00a0 And ever since it\u2019s been losing.\u00a0 Losing prosperity, freedoms and self-respect.<\/p>\n Well, now we\u2019re grasping at straws trying to find a way back to what we had.\u00a0 So far it hasn\u2019t worked.\u00a0 Maybe the only thing that\u2019s improved is we know where not to look.\u00a0 It feels futile but we have no choice.\u00a0 The new reality is intolerable and the memory of what we had before is still there.\u00a0 So, we go on.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" At this time of the rolling year, it is more than usually desirable that we should make some slight provision for finding some positive straws<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_mi_skip_tracking":false,"_exactmetrics_sitenote_active":false,"_exactmetrics_sitenote_note":"","_exactmetrics_sitenote_category":0,"footnotes":""},"categories":[5],"tags":[3344,3658,1832],"class_list":["post-26787","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-current-events","tag-2024-elections","tag-fixing-the-country","tag-joe-biden"],"yoast_head":"\n
