{"id":27263,"date":"2024-01-25T05:00:26","date_gmt":"2024-01-25T10:00:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/orionscoldfire.com\/?p=27263"},"modified":"2024-01-25T00:29:46","modified_gmt":"2024-01-25T05:29:46","slug":"abbotts-declaration-revisited","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/orionscoldfire.com\/index.php\/2024\/01\/25\/abbotts-declaration-revisited\/","title":{"rendered":"Abbott\u2019s Declaration Revisited"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>One of the fellows on the site who lives in Texas asked a very interesting question about <a href=\"https:\/\/orionscoldfire.com\/index.php\/2024\/01\/24\/h-t-to-arthurincali-for-link-on-texas-declaration-of-emergency\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Governor Abbott\u2019s declaration of an invasion and his authority under Article I, \u00a7 10, Clause 3 of the US Constitution to defend his state from this invasion<\/a>.\u00a0 He asked, \u201cI wonder&#8211;why did Gov Abbott have to wait so long?\u201d\u00a0 It\u2019s a good question.<\/p>\n<p>Now, I\u2019m not an expert on Texas or on Greg Abbott.\u00a0 In fact, I\u2019d love to get opinions from as many people from Texas as I can.\u00a0 But in lieu of that I\u2019ll speculate.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Abbott waited this long because this is an inherently risky action that he didn\u2019t want to have to undertake.\u00a0 But the crisis has gotten so much worse that it has become an existential threat to the whole state.<\/li>\n<li>Maybe it has only recently become clear that such a rationale for taking over jurisdiction from the border patrol was justified under the Constitution. In fact, maybe someone outside of the Texas state government provided the justification.<\/li>\n<li>Possibly the Supreme Court\u2019s decision forced Abbott\u2019s hand.<\/li>\n<li>Maybe Abbott believes that illegal immigration has become such an unpopular issue that he doesn\u2019t think that Biden will resist his efforts to put a halt to the problem.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>But whatever the reason that he waited, the declaration is a very clear and strong stand to take against the federal government.\u00a0 State military action is only warranted under this clause when war is actually underway at the border.\u00a0 After what the Supreme Court recently ruled it\u2019s entirely possible that they will side with Biden against what Abbott has declared.\u00a0 This is a radical move.<\/p>\n<p>I don\u2019t mind saying that this action has captured my imagination.\u00a0 This is the first time anyone has told the feds to pound sand that I can remember in my adult lifetime.\u00a0 What if this is finally that revolt by the states that we\u2019ve all been waiting for all these years?\u00a0 If Abbott takes this moment to implement all the actions that are needed to purge Texas of illegal immigrants, he would galvanize the nation.\u00a0 Other states might mimic what he is doing and I believe it would synergize with Donald Trump\u2019s anti-immigration message.<\/p>\n<p>I am aware that Biden has enormous resources to attack Abbott\u2019s efforts.\u00a0 He can declare authority over the Texas National Guard and order them to stand down.\u00a0 Theoretically he can declare Texas to have committed an insurrection by blocking the Border Patrol from letting the illegal immigrants in.\u00a0 Theoretically he can arrest Abbott and the whole Texas state administration.\u00a0 Or he can back down.<\/p>\n<p>This will play out over the next few days and weeks.\u00a0 The question is who will blink.\u00a0 I had always thought that Greg Abbott was a Bush Republican.\u00a0 I assumed he would never revolt against the federal government.\u00a0 But what I\u2019ve seen here today \u201cbegs to differ.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Well, I better go soak my head under some cold water.\u00a0 I\u2019m much too stirred up by all this unbridled enthusiasm.\u00a0 It doesn\u2019t contribute to my peace of mind.\u00a0 But I do admit, it is fun.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>One of the fellows on the site who lives in Texas asked a very interesting question about Governor Abbott\u2019s declaration of an invasion and his<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_mi_skip_tracking":false,"_exactmetrics_sitenote_active":false,"_exactmetrics_sitenote_note":"","_exactmetrics_sitenote_category":0,"footnotes":""},"categories":[5],"tags":[2942,2886,1989,1066],"class_list":["post-27263","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-current-events","tag-governor-abbott","tag-red-state-initiative","tag-texas","tag-the-great-revolt"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v20.4 -
