Camera Girl loves reading crime fiction and things like crime fiction.\u00a0 Harry Bosch is one of the characters in her books and lately we started watching some tv series about him.\u00a0 So today we sat down to an episode and in this story one of Bosch\u2019s associates, a cyber security professional\/hacker is being investigated by the FBI to try and get him to become a confidential informant against Bosch.\u00a0 The FBI uses a woman who is a rising star in hacker circles to entrap this Bosch associate.<\/p>\n
So, Camera Girl sees this woman working for the FBI and says, \u201cShe\u2019s working for the FBI and trying to entrap him.\u00a0 That\u2019s awful.\u201d\u00a0 And I started laughing.\u00a0 I said, \u201cHon, if only that were the extent of what they actually do.\u201d\u00a0 And I was about to go into a diatribe about J6 and the \u201cplot\u201d to kidnap the Michigan governor.\u00a0 But then I thought, why should I make her depressed about how our country is really run?\u00a0 It\u2019s bad enough I have to know.\u00a0 So, I just let it go.<\/p>\n
The old saying is that truth is stranger than fiction.\u00a0 And that\u2019s absolutely true now.\u00a0 I mean if you think about it, since 1945 our military arsenal contains devices that were the stuff of science fiction right up till Hiroshima and Nagasaki.\u00a0 And in 1968 when \u201c2001: A Space Odyssey\u201d reached the theaters, artificial intelligence was a homicidal computer named HAL that was obviously an impossibility.\u00a0 And now we have AI stealing our jobs and insulting us in the comments sections.\u00a0 And just three years ago we probably saw the first large-scale event featuring a bio-weapon.\u00a0 Granted, it was a pathetic one but it caused a lot of damage to the world economy and destroyed most people\u2019s faith in the honesty of the WHO and the American government.<\/p>\n
So, stranger than fiction isn\u2019t really surprising.\u00a0 What is surprising is how wrong fiction gets it.\u00a0 When Hollywood scripts the United States being threatened with a military coup it was always a crazy general who wanted to go to war with the Russians and blow up the world.\u00a0 But he was always a right-wing religious zealot played by Burt Lancaster.\u00a0 Instead, we get General Milley who wants to conquer Russia with drag queen special forces.\u00a0 And now there is this Civil War movie and currently they\u2019re keeping the plot details under wraps but it\u2019s pretty obvious that the president who is serving his third term will be a dead-ringer for Donald Trump.\u00a0 So once again they\u2019ll trot out the old right-wing president who becomes new Hitler.\u00a0 That one was already old when Heinlein had the \u201cProphet\u201d seize control of the United States and turn it into a Christian theocracy.\u00a0 And a while ago there was \u201cThe Handmaid\u2019s Tale\u201d which once again was an America as dystopian theocracy but added in the ever-popular sexual subjugation of the last few fertile females in the world.\u00a0 Sheesh, those feminists really do worry an awful lot about being forced to have sex.\u00a0 Just from a cursory analysis I think their problem tends to run in the opposite direction.\u00a0 Sexual offers seem to be few and far between for most of those gals.<\/p>\n
Well, all this is leading up to a question.\u00a0 Does anyone think there will ever be a motion picture that accurately portrays the political and social dynamic that actually exists in the modern world?\u00a0 To make it interesting, I think it should be a dark comedy but with a redemptive ending.\u00a0 Lots of people are always saying that there is a large market for entertainment that doesn\u2019t have a social bias.\u00a0 But I\u2019m advocating for a right-leaning bias.\u00a0 I\u2019d love to see characters that I can sympathize with.\u00a0 I remember when Tim Allen\u2019s show \u201cLast Man Standing\u201d first came out.\u00a0 It was obvious that his character was a right-wing individual and it was very enjoyable and very funny.\u00a0 But then Disney put a stop to that and neutered the character and the show.\u00a0 Well, there\u2019s a proof of concept.\u00a0 All anyone has to do is copy what was done in that show.\u00a0 They could even hire Tim Allen to star in it and as long as the writing is funny it would make money hand over fist.<\/p>\n
And finally, how about a civil war movie where we win?\u00a0 The outcome is we let them live the way they want to and we live the way we want.\u00a0 We could have a postscript where we get to see what the two Americas look like in 2124.\u00a0 Blue America would look like Idiocracy with broken down wind generators and disheveled poor people dressed in rags and eating crickets.\u00a0 Red America would have nuclear power plants providing almost limitless energy, a thriving society based on meritocracy and well-maintained borders complete with 100-foot-tall fences.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
