{"id":28617,"date":"2024-04-25T22:59:38","date_gmt":"2024-04-26T02:59:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/orionscoldfire.com\/?p=28617"},"modified":"2024-04-25T22:59:38","modified_gmt":"2024-04-26T02:59:38","slug":"ukrainian-brigades-have-begun-to-fail-on-the-line","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/orionscoldfire.com\/index.php\/2024\/04\/25\/ukrainian-brigades-have-begun-to-fail-on-the-line\/","title":{"rendered":"Ukrainian Brigades Have Begun to Fail On the Line"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>West of the recently occupied city of Avdiivka the failure of one Ukrainian brigade to relieve another exhausted brigade allowed the Russians to charge forward and take a number or towns on the opposite side of a Ukrainian defensive line.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/davidaxe\/2024\/04\/23\/a-ukrainian-brigade-disappeared-and-a-russian-brigade-almost-broke-through-how-the-battle-for-ocheretyne-upended-the-war-in-ukraine-this-weekend\/?sh=55b9a17d4901\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>As the 47th Mechanized Brigade was pulling back from the front line east of the village of Ocheretyne this weekend, the Russians attacked\u2014and very nearly broke through Ukrainian lines into the 20-mile-wide ribbon of undefended terrain separating the free city of Pokrovsk from the front line.<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/davidaxe\/2024\/04\/23\/a-ukrainian-brigade-disappeared-and-a-russian-brigade-almost-broke-through-how-the-battle-for-ocheretyne-upended-the-war-in-ukraine-this-weekend\/?sh=55b9a17d4901\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>The Ukrainian army\u2019s 115th Mechanized Brigade was supposed to take the 47th Mechanized Brigade\u2019s place along the front line. But something went wrong.\u00a0According to\u00a0Mykola Melnyk, the famed 47th Mechanized Brigade company commander\u00a0who lost a leg\u00a0during the summer counteroffensive, \u201ccertain units just fucked off.\u201d<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Russians have since occupied Ocheretyne and spilled over into the surrounding countryside along tree-lines and railroad lines.\u00a0 They seem poised to flank the next Ukrainian defensive line west of Avdiivka and also fight their way west and north along the rail line that leads into the Ukrainian held territory.<\/p>\n<p>The worse news for Ukraine is that whatever went wrong with the 115th Mechanized Brigade appears to be somewhat systemic. It\u2019s the second Ukrainian unit to fail to follow its orders on the eastern front in just the last few weeks.<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8220;The first unit to fail was the 67th Mechanized Brigade, which was defending the most vulnerable district of Ukraine\u2019s most vulnerable city\u2014Chasiv Yar, 20 miles north of Avdiivka\u2014until internal squabbling within the brigade\u2019s command staff, many of them members of a far-right political group, compelled the defense ministry in Kyiv to liquidate the brigade.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Even pro-Ukrainian sources are pointing to exhaustion as the probable cause of these failures.\u00a0 It could be a very bad time for the Ukraine army in the near term.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>West of the recently occupied city of Avdiivka the failure of one Ukrainian brigade to relieve another exhausted brigade allowed the Russians to charge forward<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_mi_skip_tracking":false,"_exactmetrics_sitenote_active":false,"_exactmetrics_sitenote_note":"","_exactmetrics_sitenote_category":0,"footnotes":""},"categories":[5],"tags":[3942],"class_list":["post-28617","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-current-events","tag-ukraine-war"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v20.4 -
