Thanks to everyone who read and\/or commented.\u00a0 I guess I just wanted to think out loud about what would represent a pretty good place to live in.\u00a0 Not a paradise, not a hell but something in the middle for the people in the middle.\u00a0 Not too good, not too bad.\u00a0 Not too smart, not too stupid.\u00a0 Not too rich, not too poor.\u00a0 Just reasonably somewhere in the middle.<\/p>\n
I\u2019m aware that it\u2019s impossible and people gravitate to some dysfunctional equilibrium where the winners and losers sort themselves into an aristocracy and an underclass but it must be the American Catholic school background that traps me into a fantasy where \u201cWe all just get along.\u201d<\/p>\n
Well, no harm done.\u00a0 It cheered me a good bit to express that thought experiment.<\/p>\n
As Plato found out tyrants aren\u2019t philosopher-kings.\u00a0 It was Machiavelli who formulated the saying, \u201cthe ends always justify the means\u2014no matter how cruel, calculating or immoral those means might be.\u201d\u00a0 We\u2019ll see.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
