I probably watched in total about twenty minutes of the speeches that Donald Trump and J D Vance made in Milwaukee.\u00a0 And that was already enough.\u00a0 The rah, rah stuff with the crowd and Trump\u2019s tendency to repeat the same points over and over again were too much for me to watch more than that.\u00a0 And that\u2019s nothing against people who like that kind of thing.<\/p>\n
I was watching Tucker Carlson\u2019s speech and had a different problem.\u00a0 I like his talks.\u00a0 He works a theme very well.\u00a0 But the problem with his speech was that the crowd kept interrupting him so that he had to placate them with polite noise to shut them up.\u00a0 I found it too distracting to listen to a good talk that had to dodge around a hyperactive crowd.<\/p>\n
So, my takeaway is I\u2019m not a convention kind of guy.\u00a0 I\u2019m guessing that the correct preparation for a political convention involves self-medicating with ethanol or some other recreational drug.<\/p>\n
But that\u2019s fine.\u00a0 The people who were there seemed to be having a good time.\u00a0 They had Kid Rock and Hulk Hogan and I\u2019m sure a number of entertainers and celebrities to help them enjoy a party to celebrate that they don\u2019t have Joe Biden as their nominee.\u00a0 And they also had a great story to reflect on with the miraculous escape from death that Donald Trump was gifted at that fateful rally in Butler PA.\u00a0 For once Republicans are the ones celebrating and the Democrats are in existential panic over how and with whom they are going to replace Joe Biden on the presidential ballot.<\/p>\n
I\u2019ve been watching a bunch of the Democrat talking heads and what they say is that Pelosi and Schumer and Obama have been hectoring Biden to drop out and let his delegates \u201cvote their consciences.\u201d\u00a0 And they keep telling each other that the pressure is so overwhelming that Biden has no choice but concede.<\/p>\n
But they\u2019ve been saying this for about a week.\u00a0 I\u2019m not even sure, they\u2019re sure.\u00a0 Maybe they\u2019re just whistling past the graveyard.\u00a0 After all Joe\u2019s a pretty stubborn old coot.\u00a0 And he knows he has them over a barrel.\u00a0 After all, in a month the delegates will declare him the nominee regardless of their personal feelings.\u00a0 At that point if the donors want to withhold funding, they are dooming the Democrats to certain defeat.\u00a0 So, I think they\u2019ll hold their noses and send the checks.<\/p>\n
Now, one friend of mine said that they could threaten to reveal some of Biden\u2019s high crimes and misdemeanors if he doesn\u2019t withdraw.\u00a0 And I guess they could.\u00a0 But if he called their bluff, would they present the nation with proof that Biden is a crook?\u00a0 I kind of doubt it.\u00a0 After all Biden probably has dirt on all of them too.\u00a0 And even if he doesn\u2019t rat them out it would destroy the Democratic Party for a generation.\u00a0 All the whispers about influence peddling would be shown true.\u00a0 And raking up all that dirt would be sure to tar half of Washington.<\/p>\n
I asked some friends whether they thought Biden would withdraw.\u00a0 They all said yes.\u00a0 They\u2019re probably right.\u00a0 But I\u2019m holding out hope that Joe will dig deep and hang on.\u00a0 Like an anchor I\u2019m hoping he will drag the Democrat party down to the bottom this November.<\/p>\n
