{"id":30336,"date":"2024-09-09T05:00:41","date_gmt":"2024-09-09T09:00:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/orionscoldfire.com\/?p=30336"},"modified":"2024-09-08T19:57:42","modified_gmt":"2024-09-08T23:57:42","slug":"finding-significance","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/orionscoldfire.com\/index.php\/2024\/09\/09\/finding-significance\/","title":{"rendered":"Finding Significance"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Regular readers know that I admire, perhaps excessively, a small number of well-known literary works.\u00a0 Shakespeare has several of my favorites.\u00a0 But there are gems scattered throughout western literature from the Iliad on.\u00a0 And of course, there\u2019s the Bible.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ve always admired this speech from Macbeth:<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Ian McKellen as Macbeth (&quot;Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow&quot;)\" width=\"783\" height=\"587\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/4LDdyafsR7g?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8220;Tomorrow, and tomorrow, and tomorrow,<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Creeps in this petty pace from day to day,<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>To the last syllable of recorded time;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>And all our yesterdays have lighted fools<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>The way to dusty death. Out, out, brief candle!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Life&#8217;s but a walking shadow, a poor player,<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>That struts and frets his hour upon the stage,<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>And then is heard no more. It is a tale<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Told by an idiot, full of sound and fury,<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Signifying nothing.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>These are the words of a man who has come to believe that life is meaningless.\u00a0 But it\u2019s really a rationalization for the results of murdering his own conscience.\u00a0 He was describing the hell he had created and that soon would engulf him permanently.<\/p>\n<p>And I find this idea instructive.\u00a0 I think if you keep in mind that there is a moral order, then it gives you a sense of perspective.\u00a0 You can be surrounded by evil and forced to deal with the worst of humanity.\u00a0 But if you can work to preserve the things that are good then you can have some peace in knowing you are giving meaning to human life.\u00a0 And that\u2019s not nothing.<\/p>\n<p>Despair is a godless pleasure that we\u2019re not allowed to imbibe.\u00a0 You have to work to make this crazy world of ours better.\u00a0 Certainly, we are currently seeing a diminution in the state of our world.\u00a0 The morals, the morale, the wisdom of our society is draining away in a shocking way.<\/p>\n<p>And that\u2019s alarming.\u00a0 But it\u2019s far from the first time and it\u2019s probably not the worst example on record.\u00a0 It\u2019s important to keep things in perspective and act reasonably.\u00a0 We will be surrounded for the foreseeable future by people who have bought into the current narrative.\u00a0 This includes all kinds of very harmful ideas and practices.\u00a0 The results of this are the excesses of our culture; confusion over things like the roles of men and women and the importance of traditional practices in living our lives and raising our children.<\/p>\n<p>We can instill meaning and purpose into our actions and interactions with each other by choosing carefully to perform the actions that improve our surroundings and make us better people.\u00a0 And this is especially important in our relations with the young.\u00a0 They are growing up in a world that has been stripped of reason and dignity.\u00a0 They spend their every waking minute immersed in a world of TikTok influencers and other phony celebrities telling them what they should think and what they should value.\u00a0 It\u2019s a wonder they haven\u2019t all been degraded down to the status of sub-human idiots.\u00a0 I feel it\u2019s especially important to enrich the lives of the young people in my life with things that nourish and expand their minds and souls.\u00a0 There is the meaning that we can find; keeping this world from falling into a new dark age.<\/p>\n<p>Life is brief but it is a tale told by whatever truth you have in your heart.\u00a0 If it signifies nothing then that is what is in your soul.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Regular readers know that I admire, perhaps excessively, a small number of well-known literary works.\u00a0 Shakespeare has several of my favorites.\u00a0 But there are gems<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_mi_skip_tracking":false,"_exactmetrics_sitenote_active":false,"_exactmetrics_sitenote_note":"","_exactmetrics_sitenote_category":0,"footnotes":""},"categories":[5,2860],"tags":[881,737,2093,295],"class_list":["post-30336","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-current-events","category-reclaiming-the-family","tag-it-is-a-tale-told-by-an-idiot-full-of-sound-and-fury-signifying-nothing","tag-macbeth","tag-reclaiming-the-family","tag-shakespeare"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v20.4 -
