I wasn\u2019t going to watch the debate because tomorrow is going to be an early trip and a long day so I can\u2019t stay up late but then I said, \u201cAh, the hell with it.\u00a0 I\u2019ll watch the sideshow.\u201d<\/p>\n
Well, she wasn\u2019t Biden.\u00a0 She could string together sentences.\u00a0 And of course, the questions from ABC were almost all slanted against Trump and for Harris.\u00a0 But basically, it was a free for all with both of them hammering away at each other.\u00a0 Parts of it were somewhat entertaining but I wouldn\u2019t call it very decisive.<\/p>\n
I like the fact that Trump basically stuck to using a very large part of his time hammering her on the border and the economy.\u00a0 Those are the bread-and-butter topics that people really care about and I liked his closing statement where he made the main point; that all the things that Harris says she\u2019s going to do could have been done at any time in the last three years.\u00a0 But they weren\u2019t done.<\/p>\n
So, does this debate help Trump or Harris more?\u00a0 I guess it marginally helps Harris because she didn\u2019t stand there like an idiot in the way her boss did a couple of months ago.\u00a0 She\u2019ll get a bounce because she\u2019s proven she\u2019s not brain dead and because the press will claim she was brilliant.\u00a0 But really this election is a referendum on the economy and the Border.<\/p>\n
Neither of those issues work in Kamala Harris\u2019s favor and talking about them isn\u2019t good for her case.\u00a0 Now it\u2019s entirely possible that America will vote for Harris.\u00a0 And it is possible that even if they vote for Trump that the powers that be will print off a million ballots in Philadelphia and Detroit.\u00a0 So maybe this whole exercise was pointless anyway.\u00a0 But it did give us a chance to see Trump and Harris side by side.\u00a0 I\u2019ll have to say I do enjoy his show.\u00a0 He is unique.\u00a0 He\u2019s crazy as a loon but he\u2019s a hell of a lot more fun than anything else going on in this country.\u00a0 He\u2019s got energy and he\u2019s got flair.<\/p>\n
Well, that\u2019s my take.\u00a0 Was it worth it?\u00a0 Nah.\u00a0 I should\u2019ve written about something fun.\u00a0 Basically, I can\u2019t wait for this election to be over.\u00a0 It\u2019s like some kind of boring speech you have to sit through while waiting for a game to start.\u00a0 What happens after November will be a new world.\u00a0 All the make-believe will be over and we can start thinking about the here and now.\u00a0 Maybe my focus will be on hoarding things that won\u2019t be available in the future.\u00a0 Or maybe it\u2019s time to start working on my do-it-yourself skills for when I won\u2019t be able to afford the costs of craftsmen and the like.\u00a0 Or maybe I\u2019ll concentrate on fiction writing and leave the punditry to Tucker Carlson and his buddies.<\/p>\n
But whatever else I\u2019ll be doing; I think I\u2019ve watched my last presidential debate.\u00a0 I mean, what\u2019s the point?\u00a0 If these same people are put back in the White House after four years of this then I\u2019m in the wrong country.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
