One day the Master was working in the garden and the Servant approached, \u201cFather, your son wants to see you.\u201d\u00a0 The Master put aside what he was doing and asked, \u201cWhat did he say to you?\u201d\u00a0 The Servant frowned and hesitated, \u201cHe says he won\u2019t leave.\u00a0 He says it\u2019s not fair and he won\u2019t leave.\u00a0 I think the woman put him up to this insolence.\u201d\u00a0 The Master smiled ruefully, \u201cShe is spirited, isn\u2019t she.\u00a0 Well, look, leave this to me.\u00a0 They\u2019ll only blame you and become even more incensed.\u00a0 I\u2019ll have to have that talk with him now.\u00a0 Just leave them alone for the time being.\u201d\u00a0 The Servant looked relieved, \u201cThank you Father.\u00a0 I never know how to deal with them when they disobey.\u00a0 It\u2019s very confusing.\u201d<\/p>\n

The young man upon seeing the Master looked troubled and his shoulders slumped, \u201cFather why must we leave our home.\u00a0 This place is beautiful and full of all the good things that make our lives happy.\u00a0 Why would you make us leave?\u201d\u00a0 The woman is afraid.\u00a0 She thinks the Servant has told stories about her that made you angry at her.\u00a0 He is always suspicious of her.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Master patted his son on the shoulder and laughed, \u201cThey don\u2019t understand each other.\u00a0 He doesn\u2019t have any point of reference to decipher what she means.\u00a0 And she can\u2019t figure him out at all.\u00a0 But all that\u2019s beside the point.\u00a0 You haven\u2019t done anything wrong.\u00a0 You two are not being punished.\u00a0 And this is not your home.\u00a0 It\u2019s like the nest that a baby bird hatches into.\u00a0 It is the place where you grew and developed.\u00a0 But now you must leave the nest and face the world on your own.\u201d<\/p>\n
The young man looked angry, \u201cBut I\u2019m not a bird.\u00a0 I\u2019m your son.\u00a0 Why can\u2019t I stay with you?\u00a0 Don\u2019t I share in your possessions?\u00a0 The servant said we will be sent into the wilderness where wild animals and wild men are all around.\u00a0 Why would you leave me at the mercy of the cruel places outside this garden?\u201d<\/p>\n
The Master looked sad, \u201cThe reason you can\u2019t stay with me is because you are not like me.\u00a0 Only the smallest spark of your being possesses the property I possess as my nature.\u00a0 You will die.\u00a0 You and the woman will grow old and die.\u00a0 You must have children and raise them as I raised you.\u00a0 You must learn how to survive in the world so that they can survive after you\u2019re gone.\u00a0 And that chain from parent to child must go on until time ends.\u00a0 And when this world is finally at an end you will be like me.\u00a0 And you will be able to remake the world in your own image and then you will find me again.\u00a0 And your work will be done and we can enjoy what you\u2019ve built.\u00a0 In the meantime, I\u2019ll leave the Servant within this world to keep it from falling apart.\u00a0 But his strength is not as mine and eventually you will have to learn to control all the forces of the world; the stars and the voids and the waters of the deep.\u201d<\/p>\n
The young man was stricken, \u201cBut, I will die.\u00a0 I will never see you again!\u201d\u00a0 The Master smiled, \u201cDo not believe that.\u00a0 There is a spark in you that can never die.\u00a0 You were made to conquer death and you shall.\u00a0 But now you must face death.\u00a0 There is no other way.<\/p>\n
But there is much you need to know.\u00a0 The Servant will answer as many of your questions as you can think of in the next month.\u00a0 And you and the woman will dine with me for the month you have left here.\u00a0 And I will tell you some things you must know.\u00a0 And some of them will be about her.\u00a0 She will be a great help to you but remember that her nature is different from yours.\u00a0 Learn what that means and take that into account.\u00a0 And most importantly try to remember what a father and son are to each other for when you have children.\u00a0 This will be your most important role.\u201d<\/p>\n
