{"id":32627,"date":"2025-03-20T05:00:43","date_gmt":"2025-03-20T09:00:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/orionscoldfire.com\/?p=32627"},"modified":"2025-03-19T21:17:03","modified_gmt":"2025-03-20T01:17:03","slug":"soak-in-the-sunshine","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/orionscoldfire.com\/index.php\/2025\/03\/20\/soak-in-the-sunshine\/","title":{"rendered":"Soak in the Sunshine"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Meriam Webster defines, <em>\u201cbellwether\u201d<\/em> as:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>one that takes the lead or initiative<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>leader<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>an indicator of trends<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Later on, they explain etymologically and for historical perspective, that <strong>wether<\/strong> means sheep and the original meaning of bellwether is the sheep that wears a bell and is the leader of the flock.\u00a0 But nowadays the last meaning dominates.\u00a0 A bellwether is an indicator of trends.<\/p>\n<p>And so today I have declared Camera Girl as an American economic bellwether.\u00a0 Today she told me that eggs are now priced less than five dollars a dozen and officially back within her budget again.\u00a0 And later she told me that gasoline had fallen below three dollars a gallon.<\/p>\n<p>Not one to waste such a moment I informed her that she needs to credit Donald Trump for these improvements.\u00a0 And with a minimum of eye-rolling she unironically credited the forty seventh President of the United States with this economic turn of events.\u00a0 Thank you, Camera Girl.<\/p>\n<p>Alright I\u2019ve banged the drum and declared victory over inflation based an a pretty small sample of prices.\u00a0 But you have to remember people who go grocery shopping look at the world precisely from that angle.\u00a0 When a dozen eggs costs eight dollars the sticker shock is visceral.\u00a0 When gas goes from two dollars to three seventy-five a gallon that\u2019s an outrage to motorists.\u00a0 Especially if you don\u2019t happen to have a six-figure salary.<\/p>\n<p>So, what\u2019s my point?\u00a0 Well, for the last couple of months I\u2019ve been reading the Democrats talking points and the most consistent advice is for the Democrats and the media to flood the field with the fact that inflation is not decreasing but increasing.\u00a0 Okay, that\u2019s a pretty potent strategy since inflation is primarily what got Biden and Harris bounced out of the race for the White House.\u00a0 Allowing inflation to go unchecked for even two years would be suicidal for the Republicans.<\/p>\n<p>So it is with great satisfaction that I note that at least some of the most noticeable and irritating consumer prices have headed in the right direction.\u00a0 Now I can\u2019t say exactly why this is happening.\u00a0 Is it Trumps policies already making an impact?\u00a0 Is it just the beauty of karma kicking the Democrats in the teeth and then patting Donald Trump on the shoulder like an old friend?\u00a0 Maybe.\u00a0 But whatever it is the guys at the Wednesday zoom call were kind of giddy about some of it.<\/p>\n<p>So, I don\u2019t know how long this will continue.\u00a0 But every week that it does seems to take its toll on the mental health of Chuck Schumer, Hakim Jeffries and AOC.\u00a0 All three seem to be close to a paranoid nervous breakdown.\u00a0 I saw a little bit of Schumer on a show (maybe the View) and he was gesticulating with his arms and rattling on in a high-pitched whine as if he might be working up to a seizure or a stroke.\u00a0 This is definitely where we want the Democrats.\u00a0 When their heads look like they might explode I don\u2019t think we have to worry about them convincing the American people of much of anything at all.\u00a0 Well, maybe they might convince viewers that they\u2019re unhinged.\u00a0 That they might do.<\/p>\n<p>So, am I laying it on a little thick?\u00a0 Yeah, probably.\u00a0 But it\u2019s not every day or even every year that our enemies look so flustered and tongue-tied.\u00a0 It\u2019s a moment worth savoring.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Meriam Webster defines, \u201cbellwether\u201d as: one that takes the lead or initiative leader an indicator of trends Later on, they explain etymologically and for historical<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_mi_skip_tracking":false,"_exactmetrics_sitenote_active":false,"_exactmetrics_sitenote_note":"","_exactmetrics_sitenote_category":0,"footnotes":""},"categories":[5,6],"tags":[3240,16,2680],"class_list":["post-32627","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-current-events","category-trump","tag-inflation","tag-trump","tag-trumps-second-term"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v20.4 -
