That Donald Trump, he\u2019s got folks more stirred up than a hornet\u2019s nest.\u00a0 I read that the Dow was off by 8% on the week.\u00a0 Now that\u2019s a lot.\u00a0 I think back on Black Monday in the \u201880s it ended down about that amount.\u00a0 And that riled up folks too.\u00a0 Of course, I\u2019m guessing most of these angry investors aren\u2019t going to sell off their holdings.\u00a0 For them equity is the only game in town.\u00a0 Shorting the market could get some of them hurt.<\/p>\n
I\u2019ve got to say, Trump isn\u2019t doing things by halves.\u00a0 And I think he\u2019s going in the right direction.\u00a0 Things won\u2019t change until all of the globalist policies are upended.\u00a0 And upending those policies will produce havoc in the short term.\u00a0 And that\u2019s what we\u2019re seeing.\u00a0 One thing\u2019s for sure I wouldn\u2019t be thinking about buying any high end imported cars or other luxury items.\u00a0 They\u2019re gonna get expensive.\u00a0 And there\u2019s gonna be a lot of angry folks who sell those things who will be making a lot less money until things re-sort themselves around changes in the tariff situation.<\/p>\n
Well, it should be interesting to see if Trump can get this done.\u00a0 There\u2019s nothing certain about his hold on power.\u00a0 The Republicans in Congress are as disloyal a bunch as any imaginable and if they think Trump is in trouble they\u2019ll turn on him in a heartbeat.\u00a0 And I\u2019m sure he knows that.\u00a0 For myself personally, I\u2019m enjoying all the drama unfolding on the social platforms.\u00a0 The folks on X have been spinning around like lunatics declaring the end of the world.\u00a0 And that can be very entertaining.\u00a0 I got into a number of spirited discussions with folks who told me we\u2019re living in the best of all possible worlds and wanting Americans to have manufacturing jobs was stupid, nostalgic, racist (of course) and just plain evil.\u00a0 And that really was fun.\u00a0 One guy told me that the present world is so much better than the old bad world of the 1950s because now people live twelve years longer.\u00a0 I was trying to understand how putting tariffs on foreign goods would reduce my life expectancy by twelve years.\u00a0 When I questioned whether quality of life was as important as quantity he said, \u201cYou answer my question first and then we<\/u><\/strong> will deal with your non sequitur.\u201d\u00a0 Well, I noted his use of the royal plural and he stomped off.\u00a0 So, there is definitely an entertainment component to Donald Trump\u2019s trade policy.<\/p>\n I\u2019ve read that a number of countries are now negotiating for a deal and I assume that\u2019s what Trump intends.\u00a0 He wants these advanced countries to reduce their tariffs against American products.\u00a0 But countries with very low labor costs like China and Vietnam I suspect they\u2019ll get stuck with tariffs levied against their goods.\u00a0 And what that will do is force American manufacturers to on-shore some of their operations to prevent the loss of American business.\u00a0 That\u2019s what supposedly Apple intends to do.\u00a0 What I don\u2019t know is how quickly something like that can be done.\u00a0 Factories don\u2019t spring up like vegetables.\u00a0 It takes years to build infrastructure so I don\u2019t know how much on-shoring can be done in 2025.<\/p>\n We will see how it plays out.\u00a0 Anyway, I\u2019m rooting for him.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" That Donald Trump, he\u2019s got folks more stirred up than a hornet\u2019s nest.\u00a0 I read that the Dow was off by 8% on the week.\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_mi_skip_tracking":false,"_exactmetrics_sitenote_active":false,"_exactmetrics_sitenote_note":"","_exactmetrics_sitenote_category":0,"footnotes":""},"categories":[5,6],"tags":[4791,16],"class_list":["post-32826","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-current-events","category-trump","tag-tariffs","tag-trump"],"yoast_head":"\n
