So last week I was shoveling snow and now I read that it\u2019s going to be 80 degrees on Saturday.\u00a0 That\u2019s messed up.\u00a0 But this is Dunwich and we\u2019ve never restricted ourselves to reality.\u00a0 Okay, I\u2019ve been griping about the cold weather so I better shut up and enjoy it.\u00a0 And I will.\u00a0 We\u2019re hosting Easter on Sunday and that will be pretty great.\u00a0 We have Princess Sack of Potatoes here tonight.\u00a0 Her parents are celebrating an occasion and we gladly invited her over.\u00a0 Tonight, she watched \u201cStuart Little.\u201d\u00a0 I was busy but I popped in and saw a few minutes of the movie here and there.\u00a0 Geena Davis is one of the main characters and later on I saw Dabney Coleman playing a minor character.\u00a0 And that activated a very old brain cell.\u00a0 I recalled that a very young and pretty Geena Davis was the eye candy on a tv show that starred Dabney Coleman as the eponymous \u201cBuffalo Bill.\u201d\u00a0 He was the host of a tv talk show and she was one of the production assistants.\u00a0 I remember one episode where Bill explained to her that once a woman reached the age of twenty-five, she was over the hill and her face began to disintegrate.\u00a0 When Geena asked whether this applied to men, the much older Bill said something like, \u201cNo, as unfair as it may seem, men remain pretty much the same decade after decade maybe even getting more handsome over time.\u201d\u00a0 His deadpan delivery, in your face offensiveness and outrageous non sequiturs were what made the show fun.<\/p>\n
Tomorrow Camera Girl will continue the Princess\u2019s training in the mysteries of holiday cooking.\u00a0 She will assist in the baking of a ricotta cheese cake and various other Easter dishes.\u00a0 The main course is roast beast and even in the midst of my endless drive to lose weight I will indulge to a greater extent than usual because, who are we kidding?\u00a0 That\u2019s not something you pass up in this age of $12\/dozen eggs.<\/p>\n
I was talking to one of my sons-in-law tonight about saving money.\u00a0 He\u2019s got two kids that will be in college next year and we were discussing automobiles.\u00a0 His two main vehicles have 200,000+ miles each and I asked him how much he wants to get out of them.\u00a0 He said 500,000!\u00a0 Now if it weren\u2019t him, I\u2019d have scoffed at the idea.\u00a0 These are American vehicles.\u00a0 They don\u2019t last that long.\u00a0 But he\u2019s an extremely capable mechanic.\u00a0 He\u2019s worked on everything from helicopters to lawn mowers and I\u2019ve seen him bring piles of junk back to life so I just nodded my head and said, \u201cYeah we\u2019ve all got to keep what we already have on the road as long as possible.\u201d<\/p>\n
I was at a Dunwich committee meeting.\u00a0 The talk was what is going on in the state.\u00a0 The Democrats are all freaked out.\u00a0 They claim that Trump\u2019s austerity measures will force them to declare a fiscal emergency and ignore all rules against excessively increasing taxes and other revenue sources.\u00a0 They\u2019re calling Trump a fascist, a Nazi, you name it.\u00a0 Needless to say, the towns will be the ones taking the biggest hit.\u00a0 All of the state mandates will become unfunded mandates and we\u2019ll have to pay for them on our own.\u00a0 At the end of the meeting, we all looked around and you could see everyone was thinking the same thing, \u201cIt is what it is.\u201d\u00a0 We all shrugged our shoulders and walked out.\u00a0 Well, I\u2019ll enjoy Easter and then we\u2019ll take it day by day.\u00a0 Ah, New England.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
