{"id":33307,"date":"2025-05-20T05:00:57","date_gmt":"2025-05-20T09:00:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/orionscoldfire.com\/?p=33307"},"modified":"2025-05-19T20:39:59","modified_gmt":"2025-05-20T00:39:59","slug":"waiting-for-friday","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/orionscoldfire.com\/index.php\/2025\/05\/20\/waiting-for-friday\/","title":{"rendered":"Waiting for Friday"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Five down, two to go.\u00a0 And tomorrow is the killer.\u00a0 Well, here goes nothing.<\/p>\n<p>I was gonna review, \u201cThe Fifth Element.\u201d\u00a0 I hadn\u2019t seen it in a long time so I couldn\u2019t remember my overall impression.\u00a0 Well, I rewatched and remembered.\u00a0 It\u2019s a movie that has a few \u201celements\u201d that are interesting or fun but there are enough factors that are awful to make the sum negative.\u00a0 Gary Oldman has a small but pivotal part as a villain and as always, he is great fun.\u00a0 Bruce Willis plays Bruce Willis as he always does and he has a few fun moments but it\u2019s a very silly movie so he can only succeed at moments.\u00a0 The movie itself is a live action fairy tale\/cartoon with very broad humor and very wooden characters.\u00a0 Chris Tucker\u2019s character was among the most bizarre.\u00a0 But in fairness he was also one of the funnier aspects of this comedy(?).<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m sure some folks will enjoy this exercise in science fiction fairy tale but I have to give it a thumbs down.\u00a0 There were just too many annoying factors to allow me to wholeheartedly embrace it.<\/p>\n<p>So, President Trump is really playing up the international agenda this month.\u00a0 Even his enemies are intrigued by his efforts to talk to the Iranians and normalize our situation with the Arabs.\u00a0 Of course, the pundits on the Left were horrified by Trump\u2019s speech where he said he is backing away from nation-building and demanding the Middle East adhere to Western mores and customs.\u00a0 But from my way of looking at it, that\u2019s exactly the message we should be putting forward.\u00a0 \u201cYou live your way in your country and we\u2019ll live ours over here.\u201d\u00a0 Seems reasonable to me.\u00a0 But <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/ad0mG1knnK0?si=g9oafu64ZNpdouQd\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Capon and Books got the vapors hearing it<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>As for his efforts to get a ceasefire in Ukraine, I tend to doubt it will come to anything.\u00a0 The Russians don\u2019t want to give the Ukrainians a breather.\u00a0 Apparently, they\u2019ve calculated that they will finish off enough Ukrainians before the Ukrainians finish off enough Russians so that Kiev\u2019s defense will collapse this year.\u00a0 The question is whether Trump has the sense to just walk away from the whole thing and let it end sooner than later.\u00a0 But looking at the tiny geographic gains that account for thousands of deaths a week on both sides is gut-churning.\u00a0 Well, I don\u2019t see any change before the fall.<\/p>\n<p>As for the fact that Joe Biden has some kind of cancer; well, he\u2019s eighty-two.\u00a0 Is it surprising at that age that cancer has come on the scene?\u00a0 I think as we get older that possibility becomes more real every day.\u00a0 The only question I have is when did he actually get the diagnosis?\u00a0 Three, four years ago?\u00a0 Well, I don\u2019t celebrate his ill-health but I consider him an evil man and maybe this is a good time for him to think about his finish and maybe consider making amends.<\/p>\n<p>I saw that James Comey was trying to get his name back in the news by acting like a moron.\u00a0 In my youth in Brooklyn, we would have described someone like that as a lousy scumbag.\u00a0 And that would be playing it down.\u00a0 I think having the IRS audit him a few times just for fun would be very appropriate.\u00a0 Just a thought.<\/p>\n<p>Well, that\u2019s enough for today.\u00a0 Waiting for Friday.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Five down, two to go.\u00a0 And tomorrow is the killer.\u00a0 Well, here goes nothing.
