{"id":33748,"date":"2025-07-03T05:00:40","date_gmt":"2025-07-03T09:00:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/orionscoldfire.com\/?p=33748"},"modified":"2025-07-02T20:55:55","modified_gmt":"2025-07-03T00:55:55","slug":"i-feel-like-a-phoenix-rising-over-arizona","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/orionscoldfire.com\/index.php\/2025\/07\/03\/i-feel-like-a-phoenix-rising-over-arizona\/","title":{"rendered":"I Feel Like a Phoenix Rising Over Arizona"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The suffering is over.\u00a0 The waiting is over.\u00a0 The only thing I have left to do this week is get the oil changed on my car.\u00a0 I can read, write, watch movies, sit in a hammock in the shade (well, if I had a hammock), write poetry (not good poetry), plot the overthrow of the Dunwich town government, laugh in the face of death, learn to play the piano; you name it!<\/p>\n<p>Great Caesar\u2019s ghost!\u00a0 I\u2019m exhausted just reading that list.<\/p>\n<p>So, emerging from my forced isolation I see that nothing of note has happened in the last five days.\u00a0 The endless jousting between the press and the Trump administration continues and Trump slowly accumulates small victories from the courts and larger ones from the Supreme Court.\u00a0 Good!\u00a0 I\u2019ve declared victory (for the most part) and allow the world to slowly become Trumpified while I get on with my agenda.<\/p>\n<p>I finished my re-read of the last third of my book and came to a few conclusions:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>I like the writing. I like the way it reads.<\/li>\n<li>I like the story line. It moves forward.<\/li>\n<li>There is something missing to allow the story to end satisfyingly for all the threads of the book.<\/li>\n<li>So, the good news of the first two points makes it worthwhile for me to tackle the bad news of the last point.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>As I earlier stated it was weird to read the book after a good long time and read it as if I wasn\u2019t the writer.\u00a0 Of course, I knew the plot but the writing seemed fresh to me, like I was reading it for the first time.\u00a0 Now, I did make some edits and even made some small changes to the wording during this read.\u00a0 But I\u2019m good with what\u2019s already done.\u00a0 So, I\u2019ll kick around a few ideas to see which one makes the ending most satisfying.\u00a0 Good.<\/p>\n<p>The summer has gotten amazingly hot and humid.\u00a0 And this has drawn the grandchildren to want to swim in the pool.\u00a0 And this year the water is perfect.\u00a0 Perfectly clear.\u00a0 No algae.\u00a0 Good pH.\u00a0 No leaks.\u00a0 There are a few small cracks in the liner above the water line.\u00a0 So, I bought a patching kit and I will attempt to fix them myself.\u00a0 If I botch it, I\u2019ll call in the professionals and they\u2019ll overcharge me but make the problem go away.\u00a0 But it\u2019s good to see this expensive hole in the ground get used by someone who can enjoy jumping in and swimming around.\u00a0 I think in the fourteen years I\u2019ve live here I\u2019ve gone in once.\u00a0 Oh well.<\/p>\n<p>So, let\u2019s see where Trump\u2019s \u201cbig beautiful bill\u201d is in a few days and where the various wars are in a few weeks.\u00a0 But I\u2019m ready to enjoy the seasonal weather and do some cooking out with friends and relatives and enjoy the only true summer month in the otherwise blighted New England calendar.\u00a0 Because remember, July is the only month in which measurable snow has not fallen in southern New England.\u00a0 That makes it sacred.\u00a0 Enjoy.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The suffering is over.\u00a0 The waiting is over.\u00a0 The only thing I have left to do this week is get the oil changed on my<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_mi_skip_tracking":false,"_exactmetrics_sitenote_active":false,"_exactmetrics_sitenote_note":"","_exactmetrics_sitenote_category":0,"footnotes":""},"categories":[241,5,3366,1289,818,1263,237,242,6],"tags":[3341,342,4484,16],"class_list":["post-33748","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-book-reviews","category-current-events","category-life-in-dunwich","category-fiction-by-me","category-ocf","category-stuff-that-personally-interests-me-miscellaneous","category-reviews","category-sff-book-reviews","category-trump","tag-dunwich","tag-new-england-summer","tag-the-american-archipelago-book-1-the-sniper","tag-trump"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v20.4 -
