All this Charlie Kirk media madness and the manhunt have depressed the hell out of me.\u00a0 We live in a madhouse surrounded by awful, depraved people.\u00a0 So I needed a break.\u00a0 So I\u2019m writing about something lighthearted instead.\u00a0 My apologies.\u00a0 I\u2019m sure on Friday more horrible things will occur to drag me back into the madhouse.<\/p>\n
Publishing a book.<\/strong><\/p>\n Step two complete!<\/strong>\u00a0 I sent off my manuscript to the one traditional publisher that I\u2019m confident isn\u2019t ideologically opposed to the political position of my protagonist.\u00a0 Now I\u2019ve got to write a \u201cquery letter\u201d and send it out to a bunch of agents to see if any want to represent me.\u00a0 And I have to make a list of publishers that will take submissions without agents.\u00a0 Once I\u2019ve done all that, if no one bites then I have to self-publish it and then I have to market it (advertise, announce it on social media, run a Kickstarter, hire a skywriter to put my message over Manhattan, and get a Superbowl commercial).<\/p>\n Well anyway, that will keep me busy for a while.\u00a0 Based on all the advice for new writers that I\u2019ve read, I intend to disseminate my story for free to all of my friends and try to get as much good word of mouth and favorable reviews as I can when it\u2019s ready to launch.\u00a0 After all, I don\u2019t want hundreds or thousand of readers and dollars.\u00a0 I need millions and billions!\u00a0 Like the holy texts, my book should be in every home in the first and second world.\u00a0 And dammit why not the third world too?\u00a0 Surely, I can squeeze the little bit of hard currency that they would normally buy food with and divert it into my coffers.\u00a0 Yes, yes.\u00a0 That sounds right.<\/p>\n Well anyway Larry Correia started a monthlong Kickstarter for his new book on Ark Press and within about 24 hours he had $150,000 collected.\u00a0 And what has he got that I haven\u2019t got (beside thousands of devoted fans)?\u00a0 Unfortunately, that is exactly what he has that I don\u2019t.\u00a0 Ah, the trials and tribulations of the unknown author.\u00a0 There should be a \u201cTomb of the Unknown Author.\u201d\u00a0 It could be right past the colonnade of heroic sculptures of Homer, Moses and whoever wrote George Burns\u2019 jokes.\u00a0 It should have an eternal flame that\u2019s a large hibachi using charcoal brickettes as fuel.\u00a0 Some residue and aroma from a nice porterhouse steak would be fine and possibly a meat thermometer somewhere nearby.<\/p>\n You know I did learn that writing a story really is just for yourself.\u00a0 I found parts of the work where I said, \u201cNow that\u2019s exactly how it should be.\u00a0 Dammit, the writer nailed this perfectly.\u201d\u00a0 And of course, I know I\u2019m talking to myself but it\u2019s immensely satisfying when the words evoke exactly the emotion you\u2019re reaching for.<\/p>\n Of course, the tricky part is knowing (or hoping) that the scene will elicit that same response from someone or better still, many someone-s who will let the world know just what a genius the author is.\u00a0 I guess the definition of a great writer is when the whole world (mostly) is moved by what you write in the way you wanted them to feel.<\/p>\n Alright, that\u2019s enough grammata-euphoria.\u00a0 I\u2019ll only report back when something interesting (publication or a book deal) is imminent.\u00a0 Until then we can concentrate on the latest hideous atrocities on the streets of our cities and Trump\u2019s latest poke in the eye to the Left and its minions.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" All this Charlie Kirk media madness and the manhunt have depressed the hell out of me.\u00a0 We live in a madhouse surrounded by awful, depraved<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_mi_skip_tracking":false,"_exactmetrics_sitenote_active":false,"_exactmetrics_sitenote_note":"","_exactmetrics_sitenote_category":0,"footnotes":""},"categories":[241,1289,1263,237,4,242],"tags":[76,8,1290,265,4484,4801],"class_list":["post-34533","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-book-reviews","category-fiction-by-me","category-stuff-that-personally-interests-me-miscellaneous","category-reviews","category-sff","category-sff-book-reviews","tag-fiction-writing","tag-larry-correia","tag-my-fiction","tag-science-fiction","tag-the-american-archipelago-book-1-the-sniper","tag-traditional-publishing"],"yoast_head":"\n
